McConnell throws Trump, Ted Cruz, & Josh Hawley under the bus on the seditious insurrection.

Mitch McConnell did not hold back as he threw Donald Trump under the bus for the unpatriotic seditious insurrection on the Capitol of the
United States.
McConnell said;

“The mob was fed lies.
They were provoked by the President and other powerful people.

And they tried to use fair and violence to stop a specific proceeding of the first branch of the Federal Government which they did not like. But we pressed on.  We stood together and said an angry mob will not get veto power over the rule of law in our nation. Not even for one night.”

Let’s be clear, Mitch McConnell is no less a fascist than Donald Trump. He simply knows how to put
a facade over it.

McConnell Got What He Needed From Trump And Now He Wants Him Gone For Good: ‘He’s Damaged Goods’.

Kentucky Republican Senator Mitch McConnell spent the past four years tending to Donald Trump and rarely challenging the former president’s actions. Now, according to The New Yorker journalist Jane Mayer, the Republican leader wants nothing to do with Trump.

According to Mayer, who spoke with associates of McConnell, the Kentucky Republican always loathed Trump but saw him as a useful piece to stack the courts and advance his own agenda.

But things changed when the former president cost Republicans the majority in the Senate.

As Mayer reports, “Unnamed associates revealed to reporters on Capitol Hill that McConnell was no longer speaking to Trump, and might vote to convict him if the impeachment process moved to a Senate trial,” before adding that Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY) relayed.
“Three years ago, I said he’d wait until Trump was an existential threat to the Party, and then cut him loose. He’s been furious with Trump for a long time. Many who know him have talked with him about how much he hates Trump.”

As it stands now, McConnell would like to see Trump impeached — as well as banned from running for office again — as long as he is not blamed for it.

“Any pretense that McConnell could maintain control over Trump or over the Party’s fate unravelled after the 2020 election,” Mayer wrote.
“McConnell was caught between denouncing Trump’s lies and alienating his supporters, thereby risking the loss of the two Senate seats in the Georgia runoff. Faced with a choice between truth and self-interest, McConnell opted for the latter.”

McConnell has decided to cut his losses, according to political consultant Jim Manley.

“There is no going back now. He has decided to cut his losses, and do what he can to make sure Trump is no longer a threat to the Republican Party,” Manley suggested before adding that Republicans “have gotten as much out of Trump as they can, and it’s now time to make sure Trump is damaged goods.”

“If McConnell can muster the additional sixteen Republican votes necessary for a conviction doing so requires the assent of two-thirds of the Senate, and the fifty Democratic senators are expected to vote as a bloc—he will have effectively purged Trump from the Party,” Mayer wrote.

“Moreover, after a conviction, the Senate could hold a second vote, to bar Trump permanently from running for any federal office. Such a move might strengthen McConnell’s clout within the Party and help his wing of traditional Republicans re-ëstablish itself as the face of the G.O.P.”

Trump supporter arrested after threatening Mitch McConnell’s grandkids on Parler.

Mr Houck accused of posting numerous threatening messages on Parler in lead up to and after Capitol riot on 6 January.

A Trump supporter has been arrested for threatening Mitch McConnell's grandkids on Parler.

Brad Houck from Oklahoma made death threats on social media against several public officials, using sites such as Facebook and Parler.

Mr Houck posted numerous threatening messages on Parler in the lead up to and after the Capitol riot on 6 January, one of which was directed at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Mr Houck wrote:
____"Hey Mitch, how are your grandkids doing?"

An FBI affidavit said that a detective for the Moore, Oklahoma police department contacted federal investigators to inform them of complaints the department had received about Mr Houck's Parler account, KOCO-TV reporter Dillon Richards reported.

Federal agents in Oklahoma City contacted the city's police department and were sent more screenshots
of Mr Houck's posts, one of which threatened Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts.
Mr Houck wrote on 3 January:
_____"Hey Justice Roberts, we are coming for you
and your illegal adopted kids!! Finished! They will get to watch you hang."

The FBI got a warrant and travelled to Mr Houck's home. After announcing their arrival by loudspeaker several times to no response, they finally made verbal contact with Mr Houck after breaching a window. Mr Houck went further back into the house, according to the FBI criminal complaint.

Mr Houck finally exited his home while smoking a cigarette, asking if this was about "the posts".
Despite being told to raise his hands, Mr Houck
kept them down, telling agents to come to him.
He eventually approached the agents.

According to the FBI, they found 24 guns along with thousands of rounds of ammunition in Mr Houck's home. They also located almost $4,800 in cash and several "personal electronic devices".

Mr Houck further threatened former President George W Bush, posting on 6 December 2020:
____"GWB is a dead man... we will find you georgie boy."

On 24 December 2020, Mr Houck issued a different threat against Chief Justice Roberts, writing:
_ ___"Supreme Court justices are appointed for life...
You give us only one way to remove treasonous judges...
death! It's coming John Roberts!"

He also threatened Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, and Republican Oklahoma Senator James Lankford, among others.

Mr Houck posted on 22 December 2020:
"We must storm that Capitol and remove these
people by force!"

Mr Houck was ordered detained by Magistrate Judge Amanda Maxfield Green until his hearing on Wednesday in Oklahoma City.

According to the Criminal Complaint by the FBI, Mr Houck bragged to people about being banned from Facebook and Parler for his posts. Showing the posts to his wife, the FBI said that she thought that they were not acceptable, but that her husband had not been to Washington, DC on 6 January, the day of the Capitol riot.

Mitch McConnell once talked about the filibuster’s ‘racial history’ that he now supports.

Political science professor Saladin Ambar highlighted Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's past acknowledgement of the racist history of the Senate filibuster —
a history Mitch McConnell now denies exists at all.

"Last week, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said of the filibuster that it 'has no racial history at all. None.

"The simple truth is that the filibuster — a Senate rule that allows for extended debate — was the most prominent tool employed to thwart the civil rights of African Americans during the period when McConnell came of age."

Specifically, noted Ambar, McConnell wrote in his 2019 book "The U.S. Senate and the Commonwealth," about how former Kentucky Sen. John Sherman Cooper helped break a Southern Democratic filibuster against the Civil Rights Act.

"I saw that those who wrote to Senator Cooper were overwhelmingly opposed to the pending civil rights legislation. But Senator Cooper was undeterred.
"He actively lobbied his colleagues to oppose the Southern Democratic filibuster being carried out against the civil rights legislation. I was exhilarated as I watched him take this courageous stance."

"Willful ignorance of the dark moments in America's past leaves us confronting our present challenges in a state of amnesia," concluded Ambar.
"There is no dispute among historians about the filibuster's racist past.

However, McConnell appears to have strategically forgotten his own powerful admiration for Cooper, who opposed filibusters intended to hold up racial progress, back when McConnell first learned the rules of the Senate."
