They had guards to keep people off the island ..closest I got was about 100 yards off shore in a boat .. in the footage from the air you can see a long "tail" off the island which is just a sand bar ...We were allowed on that .. was a great place for fishing or just hanging out ..I heard it stopped a lotta boats from drifting out into the sound and/or the ocean when they broke down ...never happened to me there
That whole area is awesome .. ..The Bell estate (Alexander Graham Bell) is just across the bay from there .. There's an enclosed thing there with seats that rode the Bells (I guess) from the cliff down to the bay ...used to play there when we were kids
