Fox News’ town hall with President Trump on Thursday was the most-watched election town hall in cable news history, according to early Nielsen media research.
The event co-moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum averaged 4.2 million viewers from 6:30-7:30 p.m. ET. The record-setting town hall dominated cable news, topping MSNBC’s 1.4 million viewers and CNN’s 1 million viewers combined.
Fox News also beat CNN and MSNBC combined in the key news demographic of adults age 25-54, averaging 744,000 during the town hall.
Trump, speaking with Baier and MacCallum in Joe Biden's hometown of Scranton, Pa., suggested that the new Democratic front-runner's repeated gaffes could be a sign of a competency issue -- honing a line of attack that Republicans are expected to repeatedly deploy if Biden becomes his party's nominee.
The town hall covered an array of other topics, including stock market turbulence and deregulation. Out of the gate, Trump defended his administration's response to the coronavirus outbreak, saying his decision to limit travel from China had averted a broader domestic crisis.
Trump also wasted little time in criticizing ex-rival Elizabeth Warren's decision to drop out of the race only after Super Tuesday, saying she may have sabotaged Sen. Bernie Sanders' struggling presidential bid by siphoning the progressive vote.
FNC’s first town hall of the election cycle with Trump brought in double the audience of the same time slot from the first quarter of 2019. It also attracted another 2 million viewers during the encore presentation of Trump’s town hall at 11 p.m. ET.
The setting was more casual and conversational than Trump's boisterous rallies, and afforded the commander in chief an opportunity to connect directly with voters on camera. The event was Trump’s first discussion with Baier and Martha MacCallum since interviews in June 2018 and April 2017.
Fox News Media President and Executive Editor Jay Wallace announced on Friday that the network will host a second town hall event with Sanders on Monday in Detroit.
Baier and MacCallum will also moderate the Sanders event, as they did when the 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful participated in a town hall on Fox News back in April 2019.
The Sanders event will be the 11th town hall of the current election season hosted by Fox News and the 10th with a Democratic presidential candidate. FNC’s first town hall with Sanders holds the record for the most-watched town hall of the Democrats' 2020 election cycle with nearly 2.6 million viewers.
FNC also topped MSNBC and CNN during the primetime hours of 8-11 p.m. ET on Thursday, averaging 3.9 million viewers. MSNBC averaged 2.4 million viewers over that same time period while CNN managed only 1.5 million.
Fox News recently celebrated its 18th consecutive year as the most-watched cable news network, dating back to January 2002. FNC’s 18-year streak is for both primetime and total-day viewers, including the key demographic of adults age 25-54. |

| Fox News to host Bernie Sanders town hall with Bret Baier, Martha MacCallum By Brian Flood | Fox News
Fox News will host a second town hall event with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on Monday in Detroit, Fox News Media President and Executive Editor Jay Wallace announced on Friday.
Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum will moderate Sanders’ second Fox News town hall of the election cycle on March 9 at 6:30 p.m. ET. Sanders previously participated in a town hall on Fox News back in April 2019.
“Fox News Channel has proven to be a destination for all voices across the political spectrum. Now more than ever, 2020 presidential candidates recognize the critical importance of our platform, comprised of significant block of Independent voters and the largest TV news audience in the nation,” Wallace said. “We welcome Sen. Sanders back to Fox News for a substantive conversation.”
Sanders hopes to land the Democratic nomination and face off against President Trump, who participated in a Fox News town hall on Thursday.
The Sanders event will be the eleventh town hall of the current election season hosted by Fox News and the tenth with a Democratic presidential candidate. FNC’s first town hall with Senator Sanders holds the record for the most watched town hall of the 2020 election cycle with nearly 2.6 million viewers.
Recent Fox News town halls were held with then-Democratic presidential candidates Mike Bloomberg and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, both co-moderated by Baier and MacCallum, as well as former Mayor Pete Buttigieg, moderated by Chris Wallace.
Fox News offers a significantly larger audience than liberal cable networks MSNBC and CNN, which have been accused of favoring moderate Democrats over Sanders.
CNN and MSNBC both recently criticized Sanders for his constant attacks on what he describes as the "corporate establishment" that he says is backing former Vice President Joe Biden's campaign. Some have even suggested that Sanders' attacks on the "establishment" is also an attack on African-American voters, who overwhelmingly supported Biden in the South Carolina primary as well as the Super Tuesday contests this week.
"That is an intentional and willful distortion of what I said and what I meant. The 'establishment' are the 60 billionaires who are funding Joe's campaign, and the corporate-funded super PACs that are spending millions on negative ads attacking me," Sanders told Fox News.
Fox News recently celebrated its 18th consecutive year as the most-watched cable news network, dating back to January 2002. FNC’s 18-year streak is for both primetime and total-day viewers, including the key demographic of adults age 25-54. |

How many people watch Judge Judy daily?
Judge Judy consistently garners more than 10 million daily viewers in its 23rd season, while Dr. Phil, hosted by Phil McGraw, garners nearly 4 million viewers. To compare, Fox News' Sean Hannity only averages 3.3 million,
Soap Opera; Young and the Restless is averaging 4.42 million daily viewers — more than about a third of primetime shows on the broadcast networks and more than every single daytime talk show and every late-night program ((that includes fox--
