WATCH: Minnesota cops arrest CNN reporter and entire camera crew on live TV
Police in Minneapolis on Friday arrested CNN’s Omar Jimenez and his entire camera crew on live television.
In the middle of a broadcast about the civil unrest in Minneapolis that occurred in the wake of the killing of George Floyd, Minnesota State Police surrounded Jimenez and put handcuffs on him.
After Jimenez was taken away, the officers proceeded to arrest every other CNN employee on the scene.
Police did not initially give a reason for arresting Jimenez, although they claimed shortly afterward that he and his crew were taken into custody because they refused to move when instructed. However, no footage shown during the broadcast shows Jimenez refusing an order to move.
CNN anchors John Berman and Alisyn Camerota expressed shock that police would arrest journalists.
“I’ve never seen anything like this, Alisyn,” Berman said.
“They were standing where they were told to stand by police previously,” Camerota said. “They were out of the way. We don’t know why they were being arrested… they are allowed to be reporting on the unrest that’s happening right now, but for some reason the State Police decided that they need to be under arrest.”
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Berman repeated.

You seem to have every news release handy so can you please tell me why Floyd was arrested and in cuffs in the first place. Please no deflections or bs.

He was attempting to pass a counterfeit $20 bill.

Asphyxiation not the cause of George Floyd's death: Autopsy
George Floyd died Monday from a combination of preexisting health conditions exacerbated by being held down by Minneapolis officers, not from strangulation or asphyxiation, based on the medical examiner’s initial report.
Preliminary findings from a Tuesday autopsy conducted by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner found “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxiation or strangulation,” according to the criminal complaint filed Friday against former officer Derek Michael Chauvin.
“Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease,” said the complaint from the Hennepin County Attorney. “The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.”

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz apologized on Friday for the on-air arrest of a CNN news crew that was in Minneapolis covering riots sparked by the death of an African-American man who was detained by police.
"I take full responsibility. There is absolutely no reason something like this should happen. Calls were made immediately. This is a very public apology to that team," he told reporters at a press conference. "The issue here is trust. The community that's down there that's terrorized by this, if they see a reporter being arrested, their assumption is it's because something's going to happen that they don't want to be seen. And so that is unacceptable."
CNN reporter Omar Jimenez was live on CNN's "New Day" morning show just after 6 a.m. when he was arrested, handcuffed and led away even after he produced his media credentials.
Jimenez was quickly released and was back on CNN’s air less than 90 minutes later. The network’s chief, Jeff Zucker, had personally called Walz to demand the reporters’ release.
