Canadian Castaway

Short story

I bought a land because I wanted peace. As a filmmaker I was working too much, traveling too much and I wanted to slow down. So I decided to do something else with my life, like building a cabin that turned out to finish as my full time home.

To be honest i didn't know much about building anything and even less about being "offgrid".

There's a lot of mistakes in that build and that's part of the learning. We can spend our whole life talking about the 1000 different ways to do things but every situation comes with a unique set of challenges.  Here there's no road. Only a trail. A material elevator for all the tools and material needed to bring to the top of the cliff, operable only during the warmer seasons.

Despite these challenges, without my friends, family and folks at the hardware store that project would not have been possible. The film is dedicated to everyone involved along the way and a reminder of where this project began.
