WSJ;
WSJ loses patience with Trump over unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud in brutal editorial.
In a blunt-talking editorial in the conservative Wall Street Journal, the editors called upon Donald Trump to come up with credible evidence of election fraud or move on and prepare to leave office on January 20th.
Noting the multiple lawsuits brought by the president and his supporters that have alleged ballot tampering and fraud — only to be promptly thrown out by judges in multiple states — the editors stated in no uncertain terms that the president needs to put up or shut up and to hire a “serious” lawyer in place of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
“If Mr. Trump had solid evidence of massive wrongdoing, it should be taken to court by a serious practicing attorney. Mr. Giuliani’s role as lead lawyer suggests this is political theater. To what end?” the editors asked. _ “Perhaps Mr. Trump wants to test if Republican state legislatures in Michigan, Georgia or Pennsylvania might directly name Trump electors, overruling the state’s vote for Mr. Biden. That’s a dark road to go down.”
According to the editors, forcing a case for overturning the election by the Supreme Court on sketchy evidence would deal the country a devastating blow.
“If it [TRump’s effort] succeeded in denying Mr. Biden 270 electoral votes, the result would be a backlash that would be a calamity for the GOP. It would draw legal challenges and might head to the Supreme Court. For the gambit to work, more than one state would have to be involved. But even if a single state took this course, it would be a terrible precedent that Republicans would live to regret,” the editorial stated.
They then closed with a pointed warning to the president.
“Republicans have given Mr. Trump ample leeway to prove his case for ballot fraud, and we’ve approached his claims with an open mind,” they wrote. “But if there’s no evidence beyond general innuendo, the President’s charges of a stolen election will undermine public faith in the electoral system. That won’t serve the country, his party, or his supporters, who will sour on politics and in the process cede elections to the left. None of this will serve Mr. Trump, his legacy, or whatever hope he has to run again in 2024.”

USA Today Columnist Kirsten Powers attacked the way Trump and Republicans have worked to undermine the 2020 election simply because voters supported someone else.
“As he has been throughout his presidency, he’s a huge threat to democracy in America,”
“For the first time in our history, we are watching a president of the United States sabotage the interest of the United States through undermining our very electoral system.''
He is the mad king on his way out of office. Destroying in his wake, out the door, our most basic institutional and constitutional stability.
The damage that Trump has done and could still do ahead of the Jan. 20, 2021 inauguration will take a long time to repair. The national security, along with the health and welfare of the U.S., in particular, are what will need the most attention for incoming President-elect Joe Biden.
“Including the hundreds of thousands of deaths because of his homicidal negligence that is resulting from his policies and his absence of presidential leadership in the pandemic.”
“We’ve never seen this kind of destruction by a president of the United States, disregard for the interest of its people, it’s constitutional and borders on seditious. It will be up to the people of the United States how this rogue, mad king should be treated after he leaves office.”
Kirsten Powers recalled what things were like after President Donald Trump barely won Michigan in 2016, but Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton didn’t contest the results.
Republicans “have been priming their voters for at least the last five to seven years with the idea that Democrats are stealing the election.
“They make up these bogus stories. They’re perfectly primed for somebody to do this. The fact you have a couple of people coming out and saying something is completely outrageous.
What the president is doing by any standard is utterly unacceptable. The entire world is watching us. It doesn’t just affect what happens in the United States. We are a model and a leader in the world, and what he is doing, it’s unforgivable.”

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro blasted Donald Trump on Wednesday after the president insisted that he had won the state “by a lot.”
Republican lawmakers in Pennsylvania held a hearing with Rudy Giuliani at the Wyndham Hotel in Gettysburg to cast doubt on the results of the 2020 election. Trump phoned into the meeting to demand that election officials “turn over the results” of the election because of alleged voter fraud.
“The sitting president’s remarks today were devoid of reality,” Shapiro wrote on Twitter.
“The election is over. Pennsylvania has certified results & declared Joe Biden the winner of our Commonwealth.”
“Lying through a cell phone at a fake hearing changes nothing,” Shapiro added.

State attorneys general are closing in on Trump as his presidency comes to an end.
As President Donald Trump focuses on his post-election legal battles, attorneys general in multiple states are focused on their own post-presidential legal battles that could result in severe consequences for the president and his allies.
Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey recently weighed in with her perspective on what could possibly happen after Trump leaves office in the coming weeks. Although she admitted that she is limited on what can be said at this point, Healey, in an interview with Vanity Fair, highlighted a number of important legal avenues that may result in accountability for the president and his “enablers”:
“As a state A.G., I’m going to be limited in what I can say, but it is important that Donald Trump, his enablers, those who acted in concert with him and furthered actions that may have been illegal, criminal or otherwise, are held accountable just as anyone else needs to be held accountable.
Much of this will depend on facts and law. Obviously there are investigations underway, and I’m confident that the right offices will do their jobs.”
Healey went on to offer a deeply critical opinion of Trump and his family members.
“I couldn’t care less about Donald Trump. I am very happy to see him go,” Healey admitted.
“I think about his incompetence as there are tens of thousands of COVID-19 cases every day. It’s outrageous what he’s done his callousness, his incompetence, his narcissism, his bullying, how he’s hurt so many people.
Either he’s ignorant or callous or both, and I think members of his family are as well. They’re very good at emotionally appealing to people and saying things that resonate.”
Based on the president’s actions, Healey has gathered that he only cares about himself and the power he threatens to lose, which would also result in the loss of prosecutorial protections that come with the presidency.
She added, “He only cares about keeping himself in power.”
Healey’s remarks come as New York Attorney General Letitia James moves forward with an investigation into Trump’s business dealings. During an appearance on “The View” on Tuesday, James insisted that Trump will not be able to “avoid justice” in the state of New York. In fact, she even predicts that Trump may step down and allow Vice President Mike Pence to pardon him.
“He can preemptively pardon individuals, and the vast majority of legal scholars have indicated that he cannot pardon himself,” James said on the show. “What he could do is step down and allow the vice president — Vice President Pence — to pardon him.”
She added later, “I suspect at some point in time he will step down and allow the vice president to pardon him.”
