Cabinet discussing invoking the 25th Amendment and removing Trump.
CBS News reporter Ed O'Keefe reported Wednesday night after the riot of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol that the president's Cabinet is discussing whether to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove him from office.
"Face the Nation" host Margaret Brennan reported that she is talking to actual secretaries who have not yet presented the process to Vice President Mike Pence, but that they are discussing the next steps.
Over the course of the day, President Donald Trump, his son Donald Trump Jr. and Rudy Giuliani all made statements at the so-called "Stop the Steal" rally that encouraged the attacks. While Trump told his supporters to be peaceful,he also continued to suggest that they had to fight for their election.
Ed O'Keefe @edokeefe 32m JUST IN: “This is not news we deliver lightly,” @margbrennan says as she reports: Trump Cabinet secretaries are discussing invoking the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump. Nothing formal yet presented to VP Pence.
“I’m talking about actual members of the Cabinet,” she says

| National Guard mystery: Why did the Pentagon go to Pence, not Trump?
That the Pentagon went to Vice President Mike Pence, rather than President Donald Trump, before sending the National Guard to keep order amid violent pro-Trump protests in Washington, D.C.
"The decision to activate the entire D.C. National Guard — about 1,100 troops in the D.C. National Guard was made after consultation with Vice President Mike Pence." "The vice president is a lot of things in our constitutional system, but not the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces."
"Why is the vice president being consulted? We don't know." "What was the president's input into that decision? We don't know. Now it seems the vice president has consulted with Congress in terms of restarting the process of certifying the election win of President-elect Biden. It looks like they are committing to being there tonight."

| There are disturbing reports about Donald Trump's mental state coming out of the White House after supporters of the president unsuccessfully attempted a violent coup at the U.S. Capitol.
CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta reports that Trump is "traumatized" and "out of his mind" over failing to overturn the election results.
"I talked to a source, a GOP source close to the president who speaks with him regularly, and I take no pleasure in reporting this, but this source tells me that he believes the president is out of his mind. quote used by this source is 'he is out of his mind.'" Acosta reported. "And the source says the president is so traumatized by his loss in the election it is all he can talk about, it is all he can think about, it's all-consuming for him. And in this source's opinion he is out of his mind."
"The president, a senior adviser says, has 'lost it.' He has been almost impossible to talk to throughout the day today, and has been watching the coverage of the Capitol," Haberman reported.
John Santucci of ABC News reported Trump was unclear what to do next.
"Sources tonight say the president is fuming mad inside the White House, unclear what his next move or action could be - he is described by one strong source as 'stewing,'" Santucci reported.

Trump fleeing to Camp David amid talk of 25th Amendment.
Less than 24 hours after armed insurrectionists seized the U.S. Capitol at the president's urging, Donald Trump fled the city to Camp David.
The weekend vacation comes amid reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called Vice President Mike Pence to request a move to invoke the 25th Amendment, which removes he president from office if there is a belief he cannot continue his role.
Several Trump staffers have resigned as has Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao effective Jan. 11.
Trump has been banned from his social media accounts after inciting violence with tweets and videos Wednesday. So, it's unclear how the president will be able to direct his supporters to continue their assault on Washington.
It prompted many online to mock Trump for his weakness and fear fleeing the city instead of standing up to fight against his party, administration and Democrats.
Now Trump is fleeing to Camp David as the Cabinet discusses the 25th Amendment and Congress circulates an Article of Impeachment.
((((House should ground Airforce One and cut all expenses. He should not be allowed to leave town.))))

As the violent mob incited by President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, some West Wing staffers panicked that they were possibly becoming participants in a coup to overthrow the government.
“What do I do? Resign?” one nervous White House staffer asked a friend on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after news broke that a woman had been shot and killed inside the Capitol.
The West Wing staffer told the friend that White House Counsel Pat Cipollone was urging White House officials not to speak to Trump or enable his coup attempt in any way, so they could reduce the chance they could be prosecuted for treason under the Sedition Act. “They’re being told to stay away from Trump,” the friend said. The White House declined to comment.
If only that were the weirdest excerpt. Oh, no, Sally Draper. Not even close.
In recent days, as Trump’s bid to overturn the election became increasingly desperate, he expressed anarchist comments in private, a second Republican close to the White House told me.
The Republican said Trump told that he wanted David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler to lose the Georgia Senate runoff election as a way of punishing them and Mitch McConnell.
“Trump told people he is really angry that the senators and McConnell hadn’t stood up for him to challenge the election. He’s happy they lost. ” According to the Republican, Trump has said he’ll be the most dominant force in Republican politics if there’s no party leadership.
Trump doesn’t give a shit about members of his own party? Noooooooo! You don’t say.
Tonight, there was a sense that the ground had shifted. Even Stephen Miller told one Republican that it was a terrible day.
He lost Stephen Miller? That’s like your own vestigial twin knifing you in the back.
And the immediate question facing Republicans became whether the violent scene today merits them invoking the 25th Amendment and removing Trump from office. ... According to a D.C. strategist close to the White House, some prominent Republicans are lobbying Mike Pence to greenlight the process.
“Pence has to initiate it,” the strategist said. Republicans I spoke to were doubtful Pence would take the extraordinary step given his longtime fealty to Trump––even in the face of being humiliated. “Maybe if Trump calls for another protest, then it’s possible,” the former West Wing official said.
(((( The the 25th Amendment will remove trump!! He has dug his own grave!)))

| All the 25th amendment blather is just noise, clickbait, sensationalism, trolling.
Trump isn't "incapacitated"... he's just an asshole.
Tell Pelosi to put down the designer ice cream and pass a law that says we can evict a president for being an asshole. Problem solved. _________________ X-Clacks-Overhead: GNU Terry Pratchett |

| The Democratic Caucus revealed Thursday afternoon that they would be holding a caucus-wide call at noon Friday afternoon addressing the impeachment of President Donald Trump and the 25th Amendment, reported Mother Jones' Kara Voght.
Articles of impeachment have already been drafted by Democrats, but Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have attempted to contact the vice president to discuss the 25th Amendment, but he's refusing to speak to them.
In Schumer's briefing, he said that it's time for Mike Pence to act in the interest of the safety of the United States. Pelosi agreed, demanding that the 25th Amendment be invoked or impeachment will begin.
President Donald Trump has already spoken to aides about pardoning himself on his final day of office, and it's possible that if he is not removed from office he will give a blanket pardon to those who breached the Capitol, preventing any of them from being prosecuted for their crimes. Democrats schedule caucus call to discuss impeaching Trump — if he hasn’t been removed yet |

Democrats' impeachment probe of Trump for Capitol riots could take just two days.
House Democrats move forward with proposals to impeach outgoing President Donald Trump for his role in provoking the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, the articles could be approved within just two days.
"One option Democrats are exploring: offering articles of impeachment through a privileged resolution," reported Manu Raju, Lauren Fox, and Phil Mattingly. "That would allow the chamber to move ahead with a vote to impeach Trump within two days, skip hearings, approving an organizing resolution, an investigation and moving straight to a vote. Top Democrats in both chambers seem to embrace this approach."
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has made clear impeachment is on the table if Vice President Mike Pence and Cabinet members do not move expeditiously to strip Trump of power under the 25th Amendment. The Democratic caucus will hold a conference call at noon on Friday discussing the matter.
Even if the impeachment moves forward quickly, there is no guarantee that the Senate, which was recently won by Democrats but which is currently still led by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), will put conviction to a vote soon, or that any significant number of Republicans have a desire to remove Trump from office in this manner.

Republicans may depose Trump — Pence has not ruled out 25th Amendment.
President Donald Trump has refused bipartisan demands that he immediately resign following the fatal insurrection by his supporters at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
The president is expected to be impeached for the second time next week, but Republicans may take action to immediately hold him accountable, according to a new report by CNN.
"Vice President Mike Pence has not ruled out an effort to invoke the 25th Amendment and wants to preserve the option in case President Donald Trump becomes more unstable, a source close to the vice president says.
The source said there is some concern inside Pence's team that there are risks to invoking the 25th Amendment or even to an impeachment process, as Trump could take some sort of rash action putting the nation at risk."
"For now, the source said Pence and his advisers hope to provide a bridge to the next administration and do as much as possible to assist President-elect Joe Biden's team in preparing for dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. But, the source cautioned, it has become clear this week that it is necessary to keep the 25th Amendment option on the table based on Trump's actions," Acosta added.
Pence has confirmed he will attend Biden's inauguration on January 20th. Trump tweeted he will skip the ceremony shortly before his account was permanently suspended.
