| Published 44 mins ago Andrew Yang, 2020 candidate: My '$1,000 per month' plan offers 'economic resources' to every American
By Charles Creitz | Fox News 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang on poverty and homelessness in America. A proposal to pay every American adult $1,000 per month is an opportunity to "put economic resources directly into" the taxpayers' hands, Andrew Yang said. Yang, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, told Laura Ingraham on "The Ingraham Angle" his plan would also be an incentive for cities to "invest in people who are struggling with substance abuse or homelessness." He claimed his proposal, dubbed the "Freedom Dividend," would help fix problems faced by people who are struggling. "It would create an economic path forward for many people who, right now, are struggling and don't have access to, let's say, treatment for substance abuse problems, or mental health issues," Yang said. Yang claimed he's traveled around the country and heard from voters who feel they are not "connected" to some of the positive results happening in the U.S. economy. "The experience I'm having when I talk to voters around the country is that 70 percent of them are living paycheck to paycheck. Fifty-seven percent can't afford an unexpected $500 bill." — Andrew Yang, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Yang, 44, described the current economy as "winner-take-all" and said that in urban areas, poor and wealthy are living "next to each other in different circumstances." "We need to wake up to the fact that we're in the midst of the greatest economic transformation in our country's history, and start moving in the direction of just putting economic resources directly into our hands." In a previous Fox News interview, Yang criticized the Trump administration's tax cut, saying it benefits the wrong people. "There is a lot of population that is struggling in the economy that has been charged up somewhat by a tax cut -- most of which the benefits went to shareholders and stockholders instead of workers," he said. | Andrew Yang raises $16.5 million in fourth quarter By Devan Cole, CNN Updated 1835 GMT (0235 HKT) January 3, 2020
Washington (CNN)Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang raised more than $16.5 million in the last three months of 2019, surpassing his third quarter haul by $6.5 million, his campaign announced Thursday.
Yang's fundraising, powered by a devout grassroots supporter base known as the Yang Gang, has turned the once longshot candidate into a fixture on the debate stage who is now polling better than most of his Democratic competitors. In a statement, his campaign said 400,000 donors have now given to his White House bid and that his total number of contributions is now more than one million.
The businessman-turned-politician also had an impressive day on December 31 -- the fourth quarter's final day -- which the campaign said was their "highest single-day haul with more than $1.3 million" raised.
While Yang's new record will allow him to "devote resources toward TV and digital ads, on-the-ground staff, and campaign infrastructure," his latest numbers are significantly lower than those from Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, one of the race's leading candidates who raised more than $34.5 million during the final three months of 2019, and Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who brought in $24.7 million.
Other Democratic candidates have yet to release their new numbers. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, raised $46 million in the fourth quarter, his campaign announced Thursday.
"What we have achieved together to date through the humanity first values of this campaign, now sets us up to compete through the early-state primaries, Super Tuesday, and beyond," Yang's campaign chief Nick Ryan said in the statement.
Yang, who officially launched his presidential bid in 2017, was an afterthought in the Democratic field until recently, largely dismissed by his Democratic opponents and party operatives. But Yang has rallied a coalition of liberal Democrats, libertarians and some disaffected Republicans around a series of distinctive policy positions, namely his so-called Freedom Dividend, a plan to give every American adult $1,000 a month universal basic income that Yang argues would alleviate a host of social ills and eradicate poverty. |

| It's a shame that over the last several decades, "business" has become so greedy that it no longer offers either paid health insurance or a wage a family can live on (for the most part). Governmental attempts to rectify these situations haven't gone all that well (the ACA) because they're putting a bandaid on a broken leg. The freedom dividend, while welcome, shouldn't be needed. |

| Andrew Yang Will be Back on Democratic Debate Stage in February Emma Kinery, Bloomberg • January 26, 2020196 Comments
(Bloomberg) -- Businessman and outsider Democratic candidate for president, Andrew Yang, has earned a spot in the upcoming eighth democratic debate in New Hampshire.
In order to make the stage for the debate on Feb. 7, candidates have to receive at least 5% in four Democratic National Committee--approved polls or 7% in two early-state polls. Candidates also have to receive at least 225,000 individual contributions. Yang had already met the donor threshold. He earned 7% in a national poll from a Washington Post and ABC News poll and 5% in a Fox News poll, both released Sunday.
He had received 5% in a December NPR/PBS/Marist national poll and 5% in an early January Quinnipiac University national poll.
Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, Tom Steyer and Elizabeth Warren have already qualified. Candidates who come out of the Iowa caucus with at least one pledged delegate to the Democratic convention also automatically qualify for the debate.
The entrepreneur did not qualify for the last debate in Des Moines. He’s currently on a 17-day bus tour of Iowa ahead of the Feb. 3 caucus in that state. (Disclaimer: Michael Bloomberg is also seeking the Democratic presidential nomination. He is the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News.)
