Trump backers wormed their way into an Italian prison seeking proof the election was stolen.
According to a report from the Daily Beast, two backers of Donald Trump "gained illicit access" to two hackers being held in an Italian prison in an effort to collect evidence that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.
In a report from Barbie Latza Nadeau, she states that reports on the access to the two prisoners set off alarm bells at the State Department which launched an investigation.
The report notes an earlier report on a conspiracy rumor in QAnon circles that the hackers "somehow hijacked a satellite in order to change the results being counted on American voting machines."
In an interview with the Beast, the attorney for one of the incarcerated men [hacker Arturo D'Elia] thought the people who came to see them worked for the Secret Service and was terrified.
"The Daily Beast caught up with D'Elia's lawyer Nicola Naponiello, who confirmed the Americans' visit and who said that his client was 'terrified' that people he presumed were American secret service agents were there to investigate him.'" the report states.
"He did not agree to be interrogated and, in fact, no one should have had access to him without going through me. It is beyond absurd."
The report adds,
"The Italians, in their thirties, are convicted of hacking the computer system of Italian military supply company.
Which had nothing to do with U.S. satellites, American voting machines, or any election," before adding.
"The plot proved untrue, though it still lives on as 'fact' in the dark corners of QAanon's conspiracy network and is now the focus of an internal investigation by the Italian bureau of prisons."
