Although more than 1.2 million Indians fought and 70,000 died in the war, Indian pilots were unheard of in WWI.
Hardit Singh Malik was one of only four Indians to fly with the Royal Flying Corps.
A devout Sikh, he had a special helmet made to fit over his turban, earning himself the affectionate nickname ‘The Flying Hobgoblin.’
He was in the squadron under Major Billy Barke and helped hunt the Red Baron.
He died aged 90 in 1985.

During the 70’s Oil Crisis, the roads were so deserted that people could have picnics on highways (1973). The crisis began when OPEC member states in the Middle East started an embargo of petroleum to the United States.
