I was really young, maybe three years old, but I remember going to the ice store for blocks of ice and putting them in the ice box back home. I was my job to keep the dog from licking the blocks during the trip back.

No, I remember that... unless... unless maybe the memory isn't real... it could be possible that maybe somebody implanted that memory in my head... but why, why would they do that... the only reason would be to cover something up... to make sure I don't remember things... to keep me from having -
TOTAL RECALL !!!!!!!

The ice--what do you do with it? a box a cooler what-- in the icebox type refrigerator, it would turn to water and then a huge cleanup mess.. Grack was rude and did like the memories I gave him.

Might not have been an ice box, it was probably a refrigerator (though everybody called it an ice box) back before refrigerators had automatic ice makers... I remember some of the ice was used in an indoor cooler thing where it would blow air over the ice... and I know for an absolute fact some was used in an old fashioned ice cream maker - I know this for sure because I was always the one who had to crank the handle but ice cream was on the way so I didn't mind -

My parents had a smaller version of this one:
Into the 1930s, households used large blocks of ice to keep food cold in "iceboxes." This photo is from the 1920s.
The ice truck came through our neighborhood a few times a week, and the ice was a pure as anything you could imagine. The guy would cut the ice in his truck and as kids we could hardly wait to snag a piece of block ice that was too small for the fridges to utilize effectively.

Its not necessary to even be from that era to know that people used blocks of ice before refrigerators. . some people still call their fridge an "ice box" .. Everyone but Temple knows why .. People also had their milk delivered in glass bottles .. You don't need to be a historian to know these facts .. Maybe Temple isn't a bottom feeding troll and just dim witted and ignorant

I like the glass doors but--where did the ice go? damn how many cases of food poising did you have? A chunk of ice can not keep the food good-- and it melts the water mess.. the whole thing sounds nasty- you must have lived in a rural area. I'm fortunate to grow up with a microwave ..

Gee, i bet you're a real asset on a camping trip. A real "outdoorsman" ..ha .sheesh .. Ice is cold (FYI) .. The cold preserves/prolongs the storage of the perishable foods... It's a common sense thing they had back then .. I imagine the ice box had a drain and a pan under it to catch the water .. much like a cooler you'd use camping..or do you just let your food float around in the water on your preppy picnics?

Yea that must be it ... Like they didn't have ice boxes in the cities

Yea you're speshul ..WTF does microwave have to do with it? Microwaves serve an entirely different function than an ice box, which you've been cluelessly slobbering about

The upper left corner was for the ice.

Whew thank that was well before my time.. ferfuk-- glass doors like a cupboard--refirgs are heavy, insolated, and compact to hold the cold in and freezers- that door thing is incapable to hold in the cold air.. its a wonder you're alive serving food poisoning.. I love tech and progress.. look at all the wonders you now have--then and now-- makes me in awe as to what my kids will have in their upcoming years,,
