The founder of the company has a son who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy and is in a wheelchair. Around October of 2008, he asked his son what he wanted to be for Halloween, and he said "a Pirate!" and Dad thought...well, all pirates need a ship. He built a ship to put around the wheelchair and had so much fun, it became the foundation for the Magic Wheelchair mission.
