New York Mayor Adams Declares State of Emergency Over Migrant Crisis Emma Court and Ella Ceron Fri, October 7, 2022 at 9:04 AM
(Bloomberg) -- New York Mayor Eric Adams declared a state of emergency over the city’s migrant crisis, saying that the recent arrival of more than 17,000 asylum-seekers from Central America and South America is straining the city’s resources.
As part of the order, Adams directed all relevant agencies to construct humanitarian relief centers to provide assistance.
The city will spend more than $1 billion by the end of the fiscal year on the crisis, Adams said at a news briefing Friday. He called for support from state and federal authorities, saying the crisis is “burning through our city’s budget.”
New York and other cities are straining under an influx of hundreds of migrants sent primarily by Republican governors from border states. The city has been working to provide shelter and other services to the migrants, many of whom fled violence in Venezuela and other Latin American countries.
Adams called the crisis a situation that was “manufactured” by leaders in other states who are exploiting the city’s right-to-shelter mandate. Under a legal settlement from the 1980s, New York is required to provide housing for anyone who needs it.
The crisis is worsening an already-fragile shelter system, which is operating at near 100% capacity, Adams said. Around 61,000 people were in the system on Thursday night, and 1 in 5 was an asylum-seeker.
“Every day the total number gets higher, every day from this point forward we are setting a new record,” said Adams.
The city has previously opened 42 additional temporary shelters in hotels. Adams promised that the city would also accelerate moving New Yorkers in the shelter system into long-term housing in order to free up beds and space for newer arrivals.
A previously planned triage center will open on Randall’s Island in the coming weeks. The center’s location was moved from its planned location of Orchard Beach in the Bronx, after rainfall caused the parking lot to flood.
The city has estimated that asylum-seekers will stay at the center for up to 96 hours, though they may stay for longer. The shelter system will still be available to them, pursuant to the right-to-shelter mandate.

I suggest that this hasn't nearly come to a head yet.. It's only gonna get worse as more and more migrants are delivered to these ~sanctuaries~ which these lefties have actually designated for them while they were virtue signaling
They've had almost 2 years to prepare for this...since they declared their states as sanctuaries and Biden opened the border ... They act like they're unaware that *millions* of migrants have been pouring into the country... Did they think the border states would/could somehow just sort them out and keep them all there?
They still seem to ignore the fact that the border is still open to the world and migrants continue to pour in .. Instead of blaming republicans for "~using migrants for political stunts~" they should ride up the ass of Biden and get him to enforce the fucking immigration laws, which he should have been doing all along

I know gas was much cheaper before what’s-his-face was installed in the White House, but was it really this price?

Southern border migrant encounters surpass record 227K in September In 2020, there were only 57,674 migrant encounters in September Published October 22, 2022 12:19am EDT
The number of migrant encounters at the U.S. southern border climbed to a record more than 227,000 during the month of September, according to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
CBP uploaded the border numbers on Friday night in what was the highest number of encounters during the month of September in Department of Homeland Security history.
September's 227,547 migrant encounters also show a significant increase from the same month in recent years.
In September 2021, there were 192,001 migrant encounters. Border agents encountered 57,674 migrants in September 2020 and 52,546 in September 2019.
"While failing regimes in Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua continued to drive a new wave of migration across the western Hemisphere, the number of Venezuelans arriving at the southern border decreased sharply nearly every day since we launched additional joint actions with Mexico to reduce irregular migration and create a more fair, orderly and safe process for people fleeing the humanitarian and economic crisis in their country," CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus said in a press release.
"Over the past week, the number of Venezuelans attempting to enter the country fell more than 80 percent compared to the week prior to the launch of the joint enforcement actions," he continued. "While this early data is not reflected in the latest report, it confirms what we’ve said all along: when there is a lawful and orderly way to enter the country, individuals will be less likely to put their lives in the hands of smugglers and try to cross the border unlawfully."
Last month's figures also saw an increase from August, when there were 203,598 migrant encounters.
The September data revealed the fiscal year 2022 ended with 2,378,944 migrant encounters, the highest ever recorded in a fiscal year. This figure does not include the 599,000 known "gotaways" that CBP sources told Fox News evaded capture in the fiscal year 2022.
"CBP and DHS will continue to work with our partners in the region to address the root causes of migration, expand legal pathways, facilitate removals, and take thousands of smugglers off the streets," Magnus said. "No matter what smugglers say, those who do not have a legal basis to remain in the country will be removed and people should not make the dangerous journey."
CBP's numbers also show that there were 20 known or suspected terrorists arrested at the southern border in September, bringing the total terror watchlist arrests at the border for the fiscal year 2022 to 98.
In comparison, the number of terror watchlist arrests at the border for the last five years combined was 26.
