| Musk restores Trump’s Twitter account after online poll

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Elon Musk reinstated Donald Trump’s account on Twitter on Saturday, reversing a ban that has kept the former president off the social media site since a pro-Trump mob attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as Congress was poised to certify Joe Biden’s election victory.
Musk made the announcement in the evening after holding a poll that asked Twitter users to click “yes” or “no” on whether Trump’s account should be restored.
The “yes” vote won, with 51.8%.
(((whew that is close for a grabge quick poll that not many knew of aha))))
“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Musk tweeted, using a Latin phrase meaning “the voice of the people, the voice of God.”
Shortly afterward Trump’s account, which had earlier appeared as suspended, reappeared on the platform complete with his former tweets, more than 59,000 of them.
Mr. Trump hasn’t tweeted anything new yet, and no one is sure if he will. If Trump does, I expect twitter to lose a lot of users and see an advertiser exodus. I suspect many of the yes votes in Musk’s little Twitter poll were foreign bots, and trolls (who have flooded back to Twitter). But ‘Free Speech!’

| Sounds like Twitter dropped all the bogus bot accounts and the liberals closed off their accounts before the poll was taken.  |

"We are witnessing the real-time destruction of one of the world's most powerful communication systems."
"It's no coincidence that a notorious union-buster and flagrant violator of labor law is effectively running one of the most viable tools we have for union organizing into the ground," responded the AFL-CIO as news reports detailed the internal turmoil at the company as Musk and his advisers scrambled to stop key employees from quitting.
Citing people familiar with the rapidly deteriorating situation inside Twitter, The Washington Post reported that__
"the number of engineers tending to multiple critical systems had been reduced to two, one, or even zero."
One worker told the newspaper that___
"there is no longer even a skeleton crew manning the system," meaning the platform "will continue to coast until it runs into something, and then it will stop."
The apparently dire situation, brought on by Musk's haphazard and dictatorial management decisions, sparked a cascade of "RIP Twitter" posts on the platform as users—including journalists, lawmakers, prominent public figures, and ordinary people—wondered about the platform's immediate and long-term future.
"As a lot of freelancers have been saying, if Twitter
goes down, our livelihoods suffer,"
"One anti-worker, union-busting, sniveling, sack o' shit billionaire is casually torpedoing the livelihoods of thousands of precarious media workers in the name of 'free speech,'" Kelly wrote.
"We are witnessing the real-time destruction of one of the world's most powerful communication systems,"
said Nicole Gill, co-founder and executive director of Accountable Tech, an advocacy group.
"Elon Musk is an erratic billionaire who is dangerously unqualified to run this platform."
"Unless and until Musk can robustly enforce Twitter's existing community standards," Gill continued, "the platform is not safe for users or advertisers.
Elon's 'hellscape' is already here."
"Twitter announced via email that it would close 'our office buildings' and disable employee badge access until Monday," the Times noted.
According to The Verge, "Multiple 'critical' teams inside Twitter have now either completely or near-completely resigned."
"That includes Twitter's traffic and front-end teams that route engineering requests to the correct back-end services," the outlet reported.
"The team that maintains Twitter's core system libraries that every engineer at the company uses is also gone. ____ 'You cannot run Twitter without this team,'
a departing employee said."
Musk, meanwhile, has continued making bizarre and flippant posts on the platform.
"His reckless actions, including sacking most of his staff and compelling others to leave, have caused an explosion of hate speech, conspiracy theories, and fraud on the site," said González.
"If there is one lesson that all social media platforms must take away from this debacle, it's that without protecting users from hate and lies, you have no company at all. Invest in the health and integrity of
your platforms or risk extinction."

As Twitter implodes, here's how to save all your tweets.
Twitter is in a sink-or-swim situation, with employee mistreatment bordering on outright labor violations causing the exodus of thousands, either via layoff or resignation.
The future of the company doesn’t look like much of anything.
Twitter’s offices are closed until Nov. 21, but plenty of folks aren’t all that encouraged about the platform actually making it to that date—myself included. Hopefully, between now and then, that gives Twitter users enough time to archive their data.
The Washington Post has a fairly helpful explainer on that front:
Simply head to Twitter, sign in, then go to the Settings tab.
From there, a menu should appear with “Your Account” as one of the options.
Tap or click that option, then use the secondary menu option of “Download an Archive of Your Data” to request an archive.
This includes account information, history, activity, and even interests and ads. That data might end up being a nice walk down memory lane as you view your past tweets and messages. And it might be helpful to stay in contact with the connections you’ve made on Twitter.
