Fox News Moguls suesd ! Stockpile Attorneys Against Coronavirus Lawsuits
After one non-profit org sued the network for pushing coronavirus misinformation, the network is readying to go to war against more such lawsuits.
Amid the mushrooming coronavirus crisis, Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch are girding for a pandemic of public-interest lawsuits over misinformation and conspiracy theories dispensed by certain Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network personalities such as Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and Trish Regan.
According to a top Murdoch executive, the father-and-son media moguls are ready to go to war with potential plaintiffs such as the Washington League for Increased Transparency and Ethics—aka WASHLITE— that filed suit on Thursday against Rupert Murdoch, Fox News, and other defendants.
The 10-page complaint, first reported by The Times of San Diego and filed in the superior court of Washington state’s King County, seeks a judgment that the Murdoch-controlled outlets violated the state’s consumer protection laws by `“falsely and deceptively disseminating ‘News’ via cable news contracts that the novel Coronavirus, COVID-19 was hox and that the virus was otherwise not a danger to public health and safety.”
The lawsuit doesn’t list specific examples of the alleged “campaign of deception spread by the Defendants”—who also include the AT&T and Comcast cable services— but WASHLITE plans to do so in a future court filing.
___The conservative outlet fired back—in a statement provided to The Daily Beast, and attributed to Lily Fu Claffee, Fox News Media’s general counsel—that WASHLITE’s lawsuit is “Wrong on the facts, frivolous on the law.” Claffee added, “We will defend vigorously and seek sanctions as appropriate.”___
WASHLITE’s; “We’re as serious as a heart attack when we go into court,” West said.

Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch to face questioning as part of Dominion Voting’s $1.6 billion lawsuit.
Fox Corp . CEO Lachlan Murdoch is slated to appear for a deposition on Monday as the Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit against the company and its cable networks moves forward.
Dominion’s lawsuit against Fox, which is seeking $1.6 billion in damages, has argued Fox News and Fox Business made false claims its voting machines rigged the results of the 2020 election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Fox personalities including Maria Bartiromo, Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Jeanine Pirro were deposed earlier this year.
Murdoch will be the highest-ranking executive to be questioned so far. A Fox Corp. spokesman declined to comment on Thursday.
In June, a Delaware judge overseeing the case had reportedly ruled that Dominion’s lawsuit could be expanded beyond the cable TV networks to include their parent company, meaning Fox Corp.’s chair and Lachlan’s father, Rupert Murdoch, could also be deposed. Dominion has argued the parent company and its top brass played a role in Fox’s hosts in spreading misinformation about voter fraud.
Dominion Voting Systems CEO says company's intention is to get the facts on the tableWATCH NOW VIDEO00:00 Dominion Voting Systems CEO says company’s intention is to get the facts on the table Requests to dismiss the case have been denied. Neither side has shown signs of entering settlement talks, although that could change before the trial’s expected start in April, CNBC previously reported. Fox has vigorously denied the claims.
The depositions are private, as are the documents that Dominion has been collecting through the discovery process. Fox has previously asked the court to keep all collected materials private, claiming Dominion mischaracterized what the documents show as actual malice.
First Amendment experts and advocates have been closely watching the case, in part because of Dominion’s lengthy list of examples that Fox network hosts repeatedly made false claims, even after facts came to light. Such cases are often settled out of court or dismissed.

(((Lachlan Murdoch now daddy Rupert in the hot seat)))
Rupert Murdoch to give deposition in Dominion's $1.6 billion lawsuit against Fox.
On Monday, The Washington Post reported that billionaire media tycoon Rupert Murdoch will be deposed as part of a $1.6 billion defamation suit by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News.
"The lawsuit alleges that the network purposely aired false claims about Dominion’s role in the 2020 presidential election to boost ratings and fight off competition from more-conservative-leaning television networks," reported Jeremy Barr and Rachel Weiner. "According to the filing, Murdoch’s deposition will be conducted remotely, via videoconference."
"Rupert Murdoch is the highest-profile person to be deposed by lawyers for Dominion, which has spent the past few months hauling in network executives, producers and hosts to answer questions about whether they knew that claims made about Dominion technology on Fox’s airwaves were false," said the report.
"Many of the most egregious comments were made by unpaid guests, including Donald Trump-affiliated attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, though some were echoed by Fox hosts including Jeanine Pirro, Maria Bartiromo and Lou Dobbs, who no longer works for the company."
This comes after Rupert Murdoch's son, Fox Corp. executive chair Lachlan Murdoch was deposed earlier today.
"Dominion lawyers have also deposed prominent Fox hosts including Sean Hannity, Pirro and Tucker Carlson, as well as former on-air personalities, including Shepard Smith," said the report.
"In doing so, lawyers for the election technology company have attempted to probe the internal culture and reporting practices of the highest-rated cable news network. The company has also obtained reams of internal communications sent by Fox employees and executives."
Dominion also has a separate lawsuit proceeding against MyPillow CEO and pro-Trump conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell, who has claimed without a shred of evidence that Dominion's equipment flipped votes from Trump to Joe Biden.

Tucker Carlson tried to 'squirm out' of saying he didn't believe Trump's Dominion conspiracy theories.
On Wednesday, The New York Times revealed that Fox News host Tucker Carlson tried to talk his way out of admitting his real thoughts on whether the 2020 presidential election was stolen, when questioned by attorneys for Dominion Voting Systems in their billion-dollar defamation lawsuit against the network.
"In Delaware Superior Court on Wednesday, Dominion’s lawyers argued that they had obtained ample evidence to make that case," reported Jeremy Peters.
"One lawyer for Dominion said that 'not a single Fox witness' so far had produced anything supporting the various false claims about the company that were uttered repeatedly on the network.
And in some cases, other high-profile hosts and senior executives echoed Mr. Hannity’s doubts about what Mr. Trump and his allies like Ms. Powell were saying, according to the Dominion lawyer, Stephen Shackelford."
"This included Meade Cooper, who oversees prime-time programming for Fox News, and the prime-time star Tucker Carlson, Mr. Shackelford said," the report continued. "Mr. Shackelford described how Mr. Carlson had 'tried to squirm out of it at his deposition' when asked about what he really believed. Mr. Shackelford started to elaborate about what Mr. Carlson had said privately, telling the judge about the existence of text messages the host had sent in November and December of 2020. But the judge, Eric M. Davis, cut him off, leaving the specific contents of those texts unknown."
According to the report, star anchor Sean Hannity flatly said he knew the claims being made by pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell on his show were not true, and with respect to the idea that Democrats were silencing whistleblowers claiming that Dominion had flipped or rigged votes, “I did not believe it for one second.”
The $1.6 billion Dominion suit has already seen billionaire news mogul Rupert Murdoch, who owns the network, as well as his son Lachlan, a top executive there, give testimony.
In addition to Fox News, Dominion is also suing Newsmax, a rival right-wing company that hosted similar false claims about the election systems company's practices. Another Dominion suit targets MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, a longtime Trump ally who has promoted conspiracy theories about the election.
