Any of you ne'er do wells heard that there's a tech guy trying to resurrect a server that will copy the original WebTV ?

I saw a YouTube video about it.

I never had Web TV but I did hear about it. Couldn't understand back then why you would want to watch tv on a computer monitor. Now that I've got my pc hooked up to my bigscreen I understand of course.

I had a blast on WebTv....especially the alt.discuss groups .. TalkCity chat rooms ...Webby was my 1st experience on the internet .. Despite the dial up modem and other limitations, it had it's advantages

But "Cancel Culture" became part of the norm in alt.discuss .. People started reporting others they didn't like to the compliance dept. .. and being i wasn't very well liked, my service was terminated twice, rendering the WebTv unit useless

... There's a lot to be said for WebTv .. But after it became msntv it sucked

I'm remembering more about WebTv as i think about it .. It came with a goofy remote and onscreen keyboard .. You had to buy a cordless keyboard for it ..but i remember just buying a PC keyboard that plugged into it..was only like $20
... The WebTv plus was an improvement over the classic .. One feature i remember was the ability to take still shots from a camcorder

Ah, the 90's... Firing up my 386dx with 64k ram and 40mb hard drive... dialing up Prodigy on the 2400 baud modem... scrolling though the BBS boards and newsgroups on my amber monochrome monitor with the Hercules graphics card... printing out cheat codes on my dot matrix printer... man, those were the days...

There were times when we'd hafta go into the settings and change the dial up number .. but that was rare and it most always connected with the same one
