More than 90 cats rescued from Tennessee home that operated as ‘cat sanctuary’

More than 90 cats have been rescued from a Tennessee home that had operated as a “cat sanctuary,” according to nonprofit Animal Rescue Corps.

The organization responded to a house in Morris Chapel, which is in West Tennesse, on Wednesday and found the cats, which officials said were seriously ill.

Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) posted on its Facebook page on Wednesday writing that the home previously operated as a "cat sanctuary.”

“The owner/operator asked for help after illness and unfortunate circumstances left them unable to provide the necessary care,” the post said.

Fish from a tank were also removed from the home.

Veterinarians were on scene examining the animals and providing any immediate treatment necessary.

Animal Rescue Corps said several cats are “suffering from respiratory and eye infections, parasites; as well as other medical conditions.”



Two cats suffered from a broken leg and one need an emergency blood transfusion, ARC public information officer, Michael Cunningham, told Fox News, adding that the cat is now recovering.

All the animals have been surrendered and were brought to the nonprofit’s Rescue Operations Center in Lebanon, Tenn., which is about 30 miles east of Nashville.  Cunningham said the cats’ owner willingly gave up custody of the animals.

Once the animals undergo medical treatments and get vaccinations they will be handed over to the organizations "placement parners,"which are rescue groups across the U.S., and then they will be put up for adoption, Cunningham said, adding that he expects that will happen within the next ten to 30 days.

Colorado woman picks up injured bobcat, puts it in car next to her child

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A woman in Colorado Springs picked up an injured bobcat and put it in her car on Thursday morning, according to KDVR.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials say the woman placed the mortally wounded wild cat in the backseat of her car - where her child was seated.

Wildlife officials removed the bobcat from the woman's car. They say it was too injured to react to being picked up and placed in the car. Now CPW is issuing a stern warning, saying no one should ever pick up injured animals.

"We removed the bobcat, which was mortally wounded. Luckily, it was too injured to react to being picked up and placed in a car. But no one should EVER try this. This could have been tragic."

Enormous lion terrifies photographer with loud roar — then smiles at him

Gren Sowerby from England got the "shock of his life" while photographing a lion in Kenya while on a safari. But instead of attacking Sowerby, the lion appeared to smile at the startled photographer.

Sowerby, 69, said he was on a safari in Maasai Mara, Kenya in September and leaned in to take the photo of the apex predator when it let out a massive roar, reports South West News Service, a British news agency.

"I lent [sic] in to take a photo when he let out a huge roar — I got the shock of my life," Sowerby said in comments obtained by SWNS. "He roared to say: 'I'm the King of the Jungle' and then I couldn't believe it when he smiled at me like when someone winks at you to say like: 'Haha!'"

Sowerby added that he "was probably 10 to 15 meters (32 to 50 feet) away" from the lion, who was with a lioness and was crossing a stream. "They had a kill in the bushes and I think he let out a roar probably to say that he was full!"

Sowerby, who lives in Whitley Bay, Northumberland, said that he was "taken aback by the sheer size" of the lion, but that he was "really happy with the photos" nonetheless.

"The King of the Jungle is always something you've got to capture and I'm so pleased I got the shot," he said.

Although lions are among the most dangerous mammals on Earth, it's not uncommon for them to show a playful side.

Earlier this week, a tiny lion cub unknowingly gave a bit of a scare to its mother. A video from the Royal Zoological Society at Scotland’s Edinburgh Zoo spotted the two-month-old cub casually walking behind her mother before she pounced on her and surprised the adult lioness.
