Giant Maine Coon Cat Is Over 3 Feet Tall And Cat Lovers Are Obsessed With Him
Regardless of their size, weight, and shape, we love all of our pets and the other animals that touch upon our lives. From a pocket-sized hamster to a six-foot-tall horse, size doesn’t change the way we admire the beauty of the animal kingdom, and certainly, it shouldn’t as appearance is only a cover.
Even for a three-year-old Maine coon kitty by the name of Lotus, who weighs a whopping 22 pounds and counting, his unusual size for a housecat doesn’t stop the internet from being obsessed with him!
While his size is actually quite normal and healthy, just three pounds shy from the top of the average male Maine coon weight, Lotus has still become a sensation on the web, leaving everyone doing a double take. Within another year, it’s possible that Lotus could weigh 25 pounds, yet still be within the healthy weight limit for his breed. The average weight for most housecat breeds by an adult age is just 7.9 to 9.9 pounds, about three times less than what Lotus’ adult weight could be!
In fact, in one video of Lotus playing with a motorized butterfly toy, we realize how big he truly is when he’s sitting right next to Chivaz, another kitty in the household. Just his face alone is nearly double in size!
With his fluffy coat, gigantic paws, long body, and extra-tall ears, you might be a little intimidated by Lotus. Although he is likely larger than most of the cats we’ve ever owned or witnessed, everyone who gets to meet him knows that he’s a gentle giant. That’s one thing that Maine coons are known for.
But just like other cats around the world, Lotus enjoys socializing, engaging in long naps, participating in playtime, and cuddling with his owners. From the photos on his Instagram page, we also realize that Lotus loves to take selfies in the forest, let the wind blow through his long fur, and on occasion, likes to make funny faces to make us laugh!
The photos and videos of Lotus posted publicly on the web really capture his personality and different moods, which is surely one good reason why the internet loves him so much apart from his size.

Animal Rescue Has Released 1,000 Feral Cats into Chicago's Streets to Combat City's Rat Problem Glenn Garner Mon, May 10, 2021, 4:24 PM
A Chicago animal shelter has found a solution to the city's rat problem.
Since 2012, the Tree House Humane Society has released 1,000 feral cats into Chicago's streets as part of its Cats at Work program. After humanely capturing the feral felines, the rescue spays/neuters the cats and then releases them back outside to serve as environmentally friendly rodent control — and stray cat population control.
The program is a welcomed solution to Chicago's rodent issue, as the Illinois city recently topped Orkin's list of the "rattiest cities" in the U.S. for the sixth consecutive time, based on the fact that Chicago had the most rodent pest treatments in the past year.
"We've had a lot of our clients tell us that before they had cats, they would step outside their house, and rats would actually run across their feet," Sarah Liss of Tree House told Chicago's WGN 9.
According to the Tree House website, the rescue places two or three neutered/spayed cats at a time into residential and commercial settings experiencing rat problems. Only felines who cannot thrive in a home environment, or cannot be reintegrated into their feral cat colonies, are part of the Cats at Work program that provides rodent control. After getting approved for a working cat, property and business owners are responsible for providing food, water, shelter, and wellness for the cats they employ to combat rats.
"In most cases, our Cats at Work become beloved members of the family or team and some even have their own Instagram pages!" the website states.
Liss explained that although the cats don't typically eat many rats, they will usually kill a few when they first arrive in their new environment. After this, the rats tend to avoid the cat's area.
"They are actually deterring them with their pheromones. That's enough to keep the rats away," she said.

Giant 3D cat on Tokyo billboard dazzles passersby Wed, July 7, 2021, 10:37 AM
The realistic-looking cat in 4K resolution appears between advertisements on a 154.7 square metre LED screen on top of a building in front of Shinjuku train station, meowing at people walking by.
The billboard was organized by local businesses who wanted to create a mascot in Shinjuku to cheer people up.
Due to the quasi state of emergency imposed in Tokyo, the cat can only be seen between 7:00 a.m. (2200GMT) and 8:00 p.m. (1100GMT), according to an official at Billboard management company Yunika.
