| In op-ed, Robert Mueller says Roger Stone remains a convicted felon and 'rightfully so'
Mueller, who led the federal investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, pushed back against claims that the inquiry was a "witch hunt." Mueller said he felt "compelled to respond both to broad claims that our investigation was illegitimate and our motives were improper."
"The Russia investigation was of paramount importance," Mueller wrote. "Stone was prosecuted and convicted because he committed federal crimes. He remains a convicted felon, and rightly so."
Mueller, who has largely remained silent since the conclusion of the investigation, said "Russia’s actions were a threat to America’s democracy." "It was critical that they be investigated and understood."
"When a subject lies to investigators, it strikes at the core of the government’s efforts to find the truth and hold wrongdoers accountable. It may ultimately impede those efforts," he added.
Also, Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, criticized Trump’s decision to commute Stone's sentence, calling it “unprecedented, historic corruption.”

When did Stone threaten the Judge? Video, article, anything to show what you're talking about? My gosh Grackle, it's very good to see your posts again. I missed you! Glad to see we both think the the Russia collusion is a hoax! |

| On Monday, CNN reported that former special counsel Robert Mueller considered publicly rebuking Attorney General William Barr’s Justice Department following their move to drop charges against President Donald Trump’s ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
“Mueller has considered publicly defending his former office and their findings on Russian interference in the 2016 election for months — especially after the Justice Department reversed his decision to prosecute former national security adviser Michael Flynn, the sources said,” reported Katelyn Polantz and Jeremy Herb. “Mueller decided not to speak after the Flynn reversal, according to the sources, but the attacks by the White House justifying Stone’s commutation on Friday finally pushed him to speak out and break away from his strict approach to stay above the political fray.”
Ultimately, Mueller — who is notorious for his public silence — did speak out in a Washington Post op-ed on Saturday.
“We made every decision in Stone’s case, as in all our cases, based solely on the facts and the law and in accordance with the rule of law,” wrote Mueller. “The women and men who conducted these investigations and prosecutions acted with the highest integrity. Claims to the contrary are false.”

Anti-corruption group files motion in Roger Stone case saying pardon is void due to ‘self dealing’
The anti-corruption group Free Speech for the People filed a motion with Judge Amy Berman Jackson opposing the pardon of President Donald Trump’s pal, Roger Stone.
According to the organization’s president, John Bonifaz, there are “limits to the pardon power” that the president holds, “including when the power is abused for self-dealing purposes.” He said that Stone’s “commutation violates the Take Care Clause of the Constitution,” and thus, should be declared void.
“When the Framers added the phrase ‘faithful execution’ to the Constitution, for the president to ‘take Care that the laws be faithfully executed’ and for the presidential oath, they were drawing on a long English tradition of this phrase signifying limited powers on behalf of the public interest, and rejecting the unlimited prerogatives of kings,” the group cited Professor Jed Shugerman, at Fordham Law School. “These republican limits are similar to fiduciary duties against self-dealing. Thus, pardons and commutations that are in self-interest and against the public interest are unfaithful execution of the office and are constitutionally invalid.”
The group’s legal director, Ron Fein, explained that the Stone case isn’t over.
“The Supreme Court has acknowledged that the pardon power is not unlimited, and the Constitution requires the President to exercise that power loyally and carefully in the public interest rather than in his own self-interest,” he said. “The judge should hear what Professors Leib and Shugerman have to say before taking any further action with respect to Roger Stone.”
