Court Gives Sandy Hook Families Go Ahead for Defamation Cases Against Infowars' Alex Jones.

The far-right conspiracy theorist and web show host told millions that the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was "a giant hoax".

The parents of children killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, who are suing Infowars host Alex Jones for defamation for saying the massacre was a "giant hoax," were given a green
light to move ahead with their lawsuits against him, the Texas Supreme Court ruled Friday.

Twenty first-graders and 6 educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., were killed on Dec. 14, 2012, in one of the 5 worst shootings by a single gunman in U.S. history.

After the shooting, Jones took to his popular web talk show on Infowars.com, which has trafficked in various conspiracy theories, to spread baseless and inflammatory statements about the massacre.

Calling the mass shooting "a giant hoax," he told the millions who watch his show and visit his site that it was a "false flag" operation staged by crisis actors posing as grieving parents to strengthen gun control laws.

The lawsuits were filed in April 2018 in Texas, where Jones and the site are based, by Neil Heslin, whose 6-year-old son Jesse Lewis was killed in the shooting, as well as Leonard Pozner and Veronique De La Rosa, who lost their 6-year-old son Noah Pozner.

The suits "seek to address specific accusations made by Mr. Jones and Infowars in 2017 that our clients were participants in a sinister cover-up at Sandy Hook," Mark D. Bankston, an attorney with Kaster, Lynch, Farrar and Ball, in Houston, told PEOPLE at the time.

They are seeking in excess of $1 million in damages.

They say that Jones' statements defamed them, caused them emotional distress, and led people to harass them.

Over the past two years, Jones and his legal team tried to get two lower courts to dismiss the lawsuits against him and Infowars but failed.

Jones and his attorneys maintain that his comments are protected by the First Amendment.

He's changed his tune a bit since the suits were filed.

In March 2019, he said in videotaped depositions for the case that he now believes the shooting did take place and that his conspiracy theories about the massacre were caused by "psychosis," the Washington Post reported.

"I, myself, have almost had like a form of psychosis back in the past where I basically thought everything was staged, even though I'm now learning a lot of times things aren't staged," he said.

On Friday, the state's highest civil court rejected Jones' request to dismiss the lawsuits, without comment, the Austin American-Statesman reports.

Alex Jones slapped with escalating fines of $25,000 per day until he testifies in Sandy Hook defamation case.

InfoWars founder Alex Jones has been found in contempt of court and will be slapped with massive daily fines if he continues to refuse to give testimony in the defamation case related to his false claim that children who were murdered at Sandy Hook elementary school in 2012 were "crisis actors."

Law and Crime reports that Connecticut-based Judge Barbara Bellis on Wednesday ruled that Jones "willfully and in bad faith violated without justification several clear court orders requiring his attendance at his depositions" that were scheduled to occur earlier this month.

As evidence, she cited the fact that Jones did a broadcast from his studio on the day the depositions were scheduled to occur, despite the fact that he claimed he couldn't attend the deposition due to health reasons.

Because of this, Bellis concluded that it is fair to say Jones "intentionally failed to comply with orders of the court and that there is no adequate factual basis to explain his failures."

Jones was then ordered to pay escalatory fines starting at $25,000 for each day he defied the court's orders, meaning he would have to pay $25,000 the first day, then an additional $50,000 the second day, an additional $75,000 the third day, and so forth.

The fines would be refunded if Jones complied with the court's order, she added.

Sandy Hook Victims' Families reject Alex Jones’ settlement offer.

Sandy Hook families reject Alex Jones settlement offer
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Infowars host Alex Jones offered to pay $120,000 per plaintiff to resolve a lawsuit by relatives of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims who said he defamed them by asserting the massacre never happened, according to court filings Tuesday. The offer was quickly rejected by the families.

A Connecticut judge found Jones liable for damages in November, and a trial is planned to determine how much he should pay the families.

The plaintiffs said they have been subjected to harassment and death threats from Jones’ followers because of the hoax conspiracy promoted on his show.

Last week Jones defied a court order to attend a deposition near his home in Austin, Texas, to provide testimony ahead of the trial. Jones said he was ill. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday on a request by the plaintiffs to sanction Jones for not cooperating.

Lawyers for the families rejected the settlement offer within a few hours, saying in court filings that it was a “transparent and desperate attempt by Alex Jones to escape a public reckoning under oath with his deceitful, profit-driven campaign against the plaintiffs and the memory of their loved ones lost at Sandy Hook.”

Twenty first graders and six educators were killed in the 2012 shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

Alex Jones scolded by the judge; Youtube__

The InfoWars founder (now officially called InfoW, LLC), testified in court Tuesday afternoon after taking an oath to swear to tell the truth. It didn't go well. Ultimately, Judge Maya Guerra Gamble told the court staff that she was sending the jurors home after prosecutors took issue with Jones lying on the stand.

"Mr. Jones, you may not say to this jury that you complied with discovery," said Judge Gamble. "That is not true. You may not say it again."

The reason that Jones never got a decision from the jury in the case was that he refused to comply with the subpoena.
___
"You may not tell this jury that you are bankrupt,"
the judge continued. "That is also not true. You may have filed for bankruptcy, I don't know that but I have heard that. That doesn't make a person or a company bankrupt. You're already under oath to tell the truth. You've already violated that oath twice today in those two examples. It seems absurd to instruct you again that you must tell the truth when you testify.

"None of those were responses to questions," she continued. "They're just you abusing my tolerance and making asides to the jury improperly and in at least two cases, untruthfully. Do you understand what I have said?"

Well isn't that the prosecutor's job, to prove to the jury that something is true or not? I mean the jury will be the ones deciding this, not the judge, right?

The prosecutor can prove or disprove anything they want..
But-- When a person is testifying sworn under oath--
They need to tell the truth...
Jones under oath is held to telling the truth, then the prosecution can do whatever with it..

Former 'Law & Order' writer: I'd never dream of creating lawyers as 'dumb' as the ones Alex Jones hired.

InfoWars founder Alex Jones got a nasty surprise in court on Tuesday when an attorney representing the families of Sandy Hook victims informed him that his own lawyers had accidentally handed over a digital copy of his entire cell phone --
and that it contained evidence of perjury.

Jones appeared taken aback by this revelation,
and he said that it was a "Perry Mason moment"
in his defamation trial.

Reacting to this, NBC News reporter Ben Collins joked that the popular, long-running legal drama "Law & Order" had never featured "a twist as good as 'Alex Jones' lawyers accidentally sent Sandy Hook parents' lawyers the entire contents of his phone and his long-hidden financials, but they waited 12 days to let him lie' in my life."

David Slack, an actual former writer for "Law & Order," replied to Collins's tweet and informed him that he and his fellow writers
"wouldn’t have let a lawyer do something that dumb" on the series, presumably because it would defy believability.

Jones has been in court this week to attempt to limit the amount of damages he will have to pay to the families of Sandy Hook victims who say that they still get harassed to this day by people who have been taken in by Jones's false claims about their dead children.

‘Worst witness of all time’: Legal experts can’t stop laughing at Alex Jones.

Alex Jones had such an awful day on the witness stand inside an Austin, Texas courtroom that it may harm him in both legal and congressional proceedings involving the impacts of his conspiracy theories — and a number of top legal experts seem to think it's hilarious.

After 6-year-old Jesse Lewis was murdered in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting massacre, Jones spread the conspiracy theory that the mass shooting was a hoax.

Jesse's parents, Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, successfully sued Jones for defamation and the lawsuit is currently determining the extent of monetary damages.

Mark Bankston, the parents' attorney, corned Jones on the witness stand after he repeated his under-oath claim that there were no messages about 'Sandy Hook' on his phone.

“Mr. Jones, did you know that 12 days ago, your attorneys messed up and sent me an entire digital copy of your entire cellphone with every text message you’ve sent for the past two years?” Brankston asked.

That caught the eye of the House Select Committee Investigating the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol, which is reportedly preparing subpoenas to obtain the information. And there could also be implications in the Department of Justice investigation into Trump's attempts to overturn the election.

Many legal experts were amused by the trial.

Gibson Dunn partner Theodore Boutrous, Jr. declared, "Alex Jones is not only a horrible person, he is the worst libel defendant and worst witness of all time."

The attorney who brought down Trump University, Tristan Snell wondered if today may now incentivize Jones to flip.

"Sure, Alex Jones probably has a malpractice claim against his lawyers for turning over all his phone data to opposing counsel — but first he’ll owe millions to the Sandy Hook families and then likely be indicted as part of the January 6 conspiracy, if he doesn’t flip first," he wrote.

Former federal prosecutor Ron Filipkowski said, "imagine being the lawyer who just absolutely screwed your client due to incompetence, that client may end up going to jail because you hung him out to dry, and that client is Alex Jones. Take separate cars. Hire security. Consider relocating to another country and a name change."

Reporter Jan Wolfe, who covers legal affairs for Reuters, described how different it was from a normal trial.

"You rarely see surprise moments like this in trials. It's like something out of a TV show," she wrote. "Incredible stuff."

NBC News reporter Ben Collins had a similar observation.

"Seen a lot of Law & Order, haven't seen a twist as good as 'Alex Jones' lawyers accidentally sent Sandy Hook parents' lawyers the entire contents of his phone and his long-hidden financials, but they waited 12 days to let him lie' in my life," he said.
"Just an absolutely wild day."

Alex Jones will have to sell 'a tremendous amount of Brain Force Plus' to pay this $50 million judgment.

$45 million punitive damages judgment a jury in Austin just handed down against far-right InfoWars webcaster Alex Jones for his lies about the Sandy Hook shooting being faked by the government.

This comes on top of an additional $4 million Jones was assessed in compensatory damages earlier in the week.

"That's about $50 million that Alex Jones will have to pay out to these families in the first of three defamation cases from Sandy Hook parents,"
said Collins.
"This is just for two different families. And this is a trial set in Austin, Texas, not Connecticut like the next one will be.
This is a lot of money for Alex Jones. It's alleged that he makes somewhere upward of $800,000 a day.
Still, $50 million to lose in two days is a tremendous amount of cash.

"Now, he will grovel and he will beg for more donations through Bitcoin and he will try to sell some more supplements on this, but that's a lot of supplements," said Collins.
"$50 million in supplements is a tremendous amount of Brain Force Plus that Alex Jones is going to have to sell to make this up" — a reference to a widely-ridiculed supplement sold through Jones' InfoWars Life brand that promises to improve brain function.

Jones' trial was by all accounts a disaster for the webcaster, who was accused of perjury by opposing counsel after his own lawyers accidentally leaked the entire contents of his phone.

"A jury awarding $45 million against Alex Jones for spreading lies about dead children while Republicans express their pride in him perfectly summarizes where we are politically as a country."

Rex Huppke, USA Today columnist, wrote "The best thing about Alex Jones having to pay $50 million to a Sandy Hook family is there are still two more in which he has already been found liable and he will soon be financially ground to dust.
Maybe he can get a job working the breakfast buffet at Mar-a-Lago."

Larry Diamond of the Hoover Institute praised the jury's award.

"These huge jury awards against #AlexJones are an extremely important victory for truth and justice, and for the US legal system," he wrote.
"Cruel, deliberate, greedy and socially destructive disinformation can and will be punished."

"Speech is free, but lies will cost you, Alex Jones," wrote former federal prosecutor Barbara McQuade. "And cruel lies will cost you punitive damages.
A strike back against disinformation."

"This is a significant verdict," wrote former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti. "The amount of punitive damages may be reduced on appeal, but Alex Jones will end up paying a lot of money regardless."

"No matter the reduction, there are more trials in tougher states and this jury is clearly making the call that Alex Jones a heinous grifter." wrote journalist Kara Swisher.

Political satirist Jeremy Newberger said, "Today Alex Jones did the opposite of winning the lottery."

I was thinking about that the other day and realized that I don't know what happened at Sandy Hook. I wasn't there and I didn't see it with my own two eyes. All I know is what other people told me happened. Were they telling me the truth? Probably. Could they have been lying? Possibly. I have no way of knowing.

Hell for all I know I was hatched out of a pod last week and every thought and memory in my head were implanted there. If that's the case there's no way I could know otherwise.

Oh well I'm going to head out to do some shopping now. I need a new hat.

Always liked watching Trey Gowdy grilling people that came before him in congress.. His grilling of Hillary is a classic
... There have been a lotta crisis actors and false flags over the years.. Sandy Hook wasn't one of them .. I don't think Jones so much as lied, but was wrong, then refused to admit he was wrong
... Now he's paying the price for his (and Infowars') shitty researching of the Sandy Hook shooting .. He just slobbered his conspiracy theory about it at anyone who'd listen .. Unfortunately for him, people listened.. He's been banned from social media platforms over his rhetoric about it and now being sued for everything he's worth and more

... I always thought it was funny when he'd work himself up into his red-faced rages .. His false flag blabbering about Sandy Hook obviously wasn't funny to the parents of the kids that were killed or anyone else .. He shoulda kept his slobbering maw shut for a change

Alex Jones suffers another legal defeat as federal judge strikes down bankruptcy petition.

Far-right conspiracy theorist and Infowars host Alex Jones has tried to paint himself as a martyr for both the 1st Amendment and the 2nd Amendment, but the courts haven’t agreed — finding that he crossed a line by bullying families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School victims and falsely claiming that they were part of a “false flag” operation.

And Jones has suffered another legal defeat, this time involving his bankruptcy claims.

On Friday, June 10 in Texas, according to the Associated Press, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez dismissed a bankruptcy protection case involving three companies that Jones controls:
InfoW LLC, Prison Planet TV and IW Health.

“The judge's action allows the parents' defamation lawsuits against Jones to continue in Texas and Connecticut, where trials are pending on how much he should pay families after judges in both states found Jones and his companies liable for damages,” AP reports.
“The families' lawsuits say they have been subjected to harassment and death threats from Jones' followers because of the hoax conspiracy. Jones, based in Austin, Texas, has since said he believes the shooting did occur.”

The Sandy Hook tragedy occurred in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012, when gunman Adam Lanza shot and killed 26 people — 20 of them children — before killing himself.

Jones, on his show, pushed the nonsense conspiracy theory that the Sandy Hook massacre was a false flag operation designed to attack the 2nd Amendment rights of gun owners.
And the families of the victims suffered a great deal
of abuse, according to the defamation lawsuits against Jones, when his followers took his baseless claims seriously.

Earlier this year, Jones agreed to a settlement in the lawsuit from relatives of children who were killed in the Sandy Hook massacre, saying he would pay $120,000 per plaintiff — an offer that they rejected.

InfoW LLC, Prison Planet TV and IW Health filed for bankruptcy protection on April 17. Never Trump conservative Jonathan V. Last, in an article published by The Bulwark on April 30, slammed Jones’ bankruptcy filing as a sleazy maneuver designed to protect his net worth.

AP notes that although the Sandy Hook families recently agreed to drop InfoW LLC, Prison Planet TV and IW Health from their defamation lawsuits, the _“lawsuits will continue against Jones himself and
his largest moneymaking company, Free Speech Systems.”

According to AP, “The families and the U.S. Trustee’s Office — a Justice Department agency that oversees bankruptcy cases — had questioned the legitimacy of the three companies' bankruptcy filing and sought to throw out the case, saying it was only a tactic to delay the lawsuits. Jones' lawyers denied the allegations.”

Alex Jones told to pay nearly $1 billion to Sandy Hook families.

The verdict in the second Alex Jones defamation case has resulted in the InfoWars host being forced to pay another chunk of money to families he slandered. This trial is taking place in Connecticut and looked at the damages that the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims faced as a result of Jones lying that the massacre never took place.

At least one family was forced to move about a dozen times due to ongoing threats as a result of the conspiracy theories crafted around the shooting.

Robbie Parker was one of those who faced attacks by Jones for years. He was often called out by name, with Jones claiming he was nothing more than an "actor."

In his final statements, one of the Sandy Hook lawyers, Christopher Mattei, urged the jury to award at least half a billion dollars for the harm that Jones caused his clients.

“You may say that is astronomical. It is,” Mattei said. “It’s exactly what Alex Jones set himself up to do. That’s what he built. He built a lie machine that could push this stuff out. You reap what you sow.”

Robby Parker was awarded $60 million for past and future damages, emotional distress $60 million

Fair just and reasonable damages for Parker were $120 million total.

David Wheeler was awarded $25 million, with emotional distress at $30 million.

Francine Lobis Wheeler was given a total of $54 million, with $24 million in damages, and emotional distress $30 million.

Jacquelyn Barton was given $10 million and $18,800,000 for emotional distress.

Mark Barton was given $25 million in damages and $32,600,000 for emotional distress.

Nicole Hockley was given a total of $73,600,000.

Ian Hockley was given $38 million in damages and $43 million for emotional distress.

Jennifer Hansel was given damages of $21 million and $31 million for emotional distress.

Donna Soto was given $18 million in damages, and $31 million for emotional distress.

Carlos Mathew Soto was given a total of $57,600,00.

Jillian Soto Marino was given $30 million for damages and $38,800,000 for emotional distress.

William Aldenberg was given $45 million for damages and emotional distress.

Alex Jones To pay Nearly $1 Billion to Sandy Hook Families. Empty
PostSubject: Re: Alex Jones To pay Nearly $1 Billion to Sandy Hook Families.   Alex Jones To pay Nearly $1 Billion to Sandy Hook Families. EmptyWed Oct 12, 2022 4:19 pm

Alex Jones and Infowars’ parent company, Free Speech Systems, must pay close to $1 billion to the family members of eight victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary and an F.B.I. agent who responded to the scene of the 2012 massacre, which killed 20 first graders and six educators.

Mr. Jones had been found liable for defamation after he spent years falsely describing the shooting as a hoax and accusing the victims’ families of being actors complicit in the plot. As a result, the families were threatened in person and online. He used his Infowars platform to spread these lies.

The jury’s decision divided the money among 15 plaintiffs: 14 relatives of eight Sandy Hook victims, and William Aldenberg, an F.B.I. agent targeted by conspiracy theorists. The plaintiffs were awarded varying amounts by the jurors, who considered their testimony and other evidence presented in court to gauge the damage done to their reputations, invasion of their privacy and other factors.

Mr. Jones has a third Sandy Hook damages trial pending stemming from a defamation suit he lost to Lenny Pozner and Veronique De La Rosa, parents of Noah Pozner. An earlier trial, in the suit brought by Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, parents of Jesse Lewis, ended with Mr. Jones being ordered to pay $4 million in compensatory damages and $45.2 million in punitive damages to the Mr. Heslin and Ms. Lewis.

This case presented the greatest financial risk to Mr. Jones, because he was found liable of violating Connecticut’s Unfair Trade Practices Act, by using lies about the shooting to sell products on Infowars. There is no cap on punitive damages under that law.

EXCLUSIVE: Alex Jones Responds to Billion Dollar Judgement
Infowars.com
October 12th 2022, 3:50 pm

Infowars founder vows to continue fighting against the globalists and appeal the ruling.

Alex Jones responded to the nearly $1 Billion dollar judgement in the Sandy Hook case on Wednesday.

“They want to scare everybody away from freedom, and scare us away from questioning Uvalde and what really happened there, or Parkland or any other event. And guess what? We’re not scared, and we’re not going away, and we’re not going to stop,” Jones said on The Alex Jones Show.

“For hundreds of thousands of dollars, I can keep them in court for years, I can appeal this stuff, we can stand up against this travesty, against the billions of dollars they want. It’s a joke.”

“This corrupt, dying political system wants to try to make me the devil. I’m not the devil, and God is my judge, not you, you globalist scumbags,” he continued.

“This is how desperate the establishment is. I am so honored to have this happening. So we’re waiting while the judge sent the jury back out because they didn’t put decimals on how many millions I’m suppose to give, and that’s why it’s such a joke. I don’t have 2 million dollars in cash,” Jones added.

Jones attorney Norm Pattis also called the kangaroo court following the billion dollar verdict:

It's not about Sandy Hook, it's about silencing opposition. The fine is outrageously high so they can seize everything he has and keep him off the air. Even brainwashed libtards know this.
