Cereal killer: Kellogg's challenges UK over obesity strategy.
Cereals giant Kellogg's said Wednesday it had launched a legal challenge against new rules that will limit the prominence of sugary foods in English shops as part of a new campaign against obesity.
The government's strategy only calculated the fat, salt and sugar content of cereals when eaten dry, not when taken with milk, the US company said in a statement announcing the judicial review.
"We've tried to have a reasonable conversation with the UK government over the past 12 months about making this change, but to no avail," Kellogg's UK managing director Chris Silcock said.
"All of this matters because, unless you take account of the nutritional elements added when cereal is eaten with milk, the full nutritional value of the meal is not measured," he said.
The new regulations, which take effect in England in October, will also ban television advertising of unhealthy foods before 9:00 p.m., to try to limit children's exposure.
The state-funded National Health Service (NHS) estimates that some 10 percent of four- and five-year-olds are obese, and it is double that figure for those aged 10 and 11.
It adds that one in four adults are obese, with cheap, high-calorie foods blamed in part.
The government said it would resist the challenge by Kellogg's, noting that obesity costs the NHS more than £6 billion ($7.5 billion) a year and is the second biggest cause of cancer in the UK.
"Breakfast cereals contribute seven percent -- a significant amount -– to the average daily free sugar intakes of children," a health ministry spokesman said.
"Restricting the promotion and advertising of less healthy foods is an important part of the cross-government strategy to halve childhood obesity by 2030, prevent harmful diseases and improve healthy life expectancy, so we can continue to level up health across the nation."

Religious woke run Seattle has figured out the most inefficient way possible to house the homeless.
Taking a cue from the movie Snowpiercer, video shows Seattle light rail train, Sound Transit, is used as multi-billion dollar run homeless shelter. Sound Transit has not engaged in traditional fare enforcement since board members declared the practice racist.

Billions of Pounds of Cheese Stored By USDA in Caves in Missouri Thu, 05/26/2022 — legitgov
The U.S. government, specifically the USDA, is storing billions of pounds of cheese in Missouri caves.
Modern Farmer explains that, in part, it has to do with the fact that milk alone doesn't store well for very long.
But the other explanation has to do with manipulating and controlling the markets.
Initially, the purpose was to stabilize the markets while providing farmers a dependable income.
But as the USDA stockpiled millions upon millions of pounds of milk, cheese and butter, they found they'd simply replaced one problem with another.
All told, the government now has 1.5 billion pounds of cheese and 355 million pounds of butter, along with incidentals such as 211 million pounds of pecans and 1 billion pounds of french fries.

Fred Goldman renews judgment against OJ Simpson and means to collect $96 million for killing his son.
Retired football star O.J. Simpson owes Fred Goldman $96 million as interest continues to mount a quarter-century after Simpson lost their lawsuit, according to TMZ.
"Goldman laid it all out in new court documents, in which he's applying for a renewal of his old judgment against the former NFL star stemming from the death of Fred's son, Ron Goldman," TMZ reported. "In 2015, Fred said with interest, O.J. owed him $57 million. But, in the new docs, Fred now says interest has continued to pile up over the last 7 years and has now reached nearly $97 mil."
The 1997 judgment was $33.5 million. In his criminal case, Simpson was acquitted of murdering Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.
In 2008, Simpson was convicted of kidnapping and armed robbery after an incident at the Palace Station Hotel-Casino in Las Vegas. He was released from prison in 2017.
In 2019, Simpson counseled Roger Stone to "man up, stop crying" after the dirty trickster complained about being arrested.
"The FBI can be wrong, but to try and compare it to el Chapo and bin Laden? Hey man, bin Laden was carried out in a bag, not walked out in handcuffs," he said.

Dozens Of Sailors Confirm U.S. Warships Were Swarmed By ‘At Least 100’ UFOs: Report By Joseph Curl • Jun 28, 2022 | DailyWire.com
Sailors on a fleet of U.S. Navy warships sailing off the coast of southern California reportedly saw several ships in the convoy get “swarmed” by a host of unidentified flying objects (UFOs).
“The incident went on for hours, and then happened again and again throughout the month, with craft hovering and zipping around near the fleet with flashing multicolored lights,” the Daily Mail reported about the July 2019 incident.
U.S. officials have dismissed the incident, with the Deputy Director for Naval Intelligence Scott Bray saying he was “reasonably confident” the UFOs were drones.
“But documentary filmmaker Jeremy Corbell, in an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, says that crew from the ships have told him the swarms of ‘at least 100’ UFOs possessed unexplainable capabilities far beyond traditional drones. And he warned that unless the government can determine who was behind the swarm, the intelligence failure would ‘dwarf our mistakes made surrounding the events of 9/11,’” the Mail reported.
“I don’t care if these were ‘drones’ or true UFOs, pyramids, triangles or even seagulls with lights strapped onto their wings. I want the fundamental question to be answered. Do we know the controllers of these units?” he told the U.K. paper.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Air Force has reportedly fired at UFOs in active war zones, according to another new report.
“‘The Air Force routinely observes, and at times, even kinetically engages UAP [unidentified aerial phenomena] in operationally sensitive areas around the world to this day,’ a service member with direct knowledge of recent UAP Air Force engagements said,” according to The Sun.
“While some UAP are eventually identified, too often others are hastily dismissed outright due to an inability to properly classify, based on characteristics displayed and observed,” the service member told the paper.
During a recent House hearing, Bray was asked about the military firing at UAPs. “And I assume we’ve never discharged any armaments against a UAP, correct?” Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) asked Bray.
“That’s correct,” Bray said.
But Corbell said no one knows where the UAPs come from. “I have obtained documentation that these UAPs are not other nations’ assets – such as Russia’s – because the U.S. Air Force has documented incidents where nations fired on the same UAP,” Corbell told the paper. “So whoever is controlling these units, it’s not the usual suspects, they’re not ours or Russia’s.”
