The United States government sent nearly 17.8 tons of medical supplies to China—
including masks and respirators—
almost three weeks after the first case of the coronavirus was reported in the state of Washington.

The US Sent Tons of Medical Supplies to China Even as Senators Warned of Virus Threat Here
Now the Trump administration is begging other countries to send us masks and respirators.

Trump sent 17.8 tons of protective equipment to China in February after US had first case of COVID-19:

The first case of COVID-19 or the coronavirus hit the United States Jan. 19, 70 days ago,
`but President Donald Trump
sent 17.8 tons of personal protective equipment (PPE) to China as cases were ramping up here at home.

A press release the State Department sent out on Feb. 7 announced they would be sending up to $100 million
to China so they could better handle the COVID-19 cases.

The release of vital medical supplies came two days after several senators, including Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy, offered to allocate congressional emergency funding for preventative health measures and research to ward off the virus in the United States—
and President Donald Trump turned it down.

Rep. Chris Murphy (D-CT), tweeted about it at the time, saying that the White House wasn’t taking the threat to the United States seriously.

“Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff, etc…” tweeted Murphy, “and they need it now.”

Just left the Administration briefing on Coronavirus. Bottom line: they aren't taking this seriously enough.

Notably, no request for ANY emergency funding, which is a big mistake. Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff etc. And they need it now.

The United States is now scrambling to gather PPE along with ventilators to handle the shortage of equipment.
