1) What is the OOTIKOF?

OOTIKOF is an acronym for Order Of The Illustrious Knights Of Fire. The OOTIKOF is an amalgam of people who hold certain values and outlooks in common, regardless of their other disparities.

Some of these values are:

   Respect for worthy opponents; Determination; Perseverance; Fairness; Boldness.

Common components in the outlook of any Knight include:

  Clear understanding of the difference between Cyber and Real; A love for The Joust;
  Taking joy in the humiliation of net.kooks; Being fiercely loyal to both friends and treasured foes.

The OOTIKOF were formerly known as the OOTIKKOF (the first ‘K’ was dropped, when it became clear that a growing number of Knights were unable to continue posting in the WebTV-only newsgroup alt.discuss.Katzenjammer).

3) Mission Statement

In a modern age, there is need for a modern brand of chivalry, a New Order of Knighthood. Whereas knights of olde were charged with protecting the weak, and keeping the peace, the world has seen the implementation of numerous agencies/tools for providing such services. There are law enforcement organizations and governing bodies of every scale, from neighborhood to global. Individuals of every station in society can and do possess mechanisms of defense, both physical and constitutional.

So where, in this environment of equality and self-reliance, is there room for the noble Knight? The individual who wants to get out there on the field of combat, and have at the representatives of the Dark Side, or simply test their mettle against other Warriors?

Cyberspace is one option.

The Domain of Cyber: a new realm, where anarchy is the norm, and knaves prowl unconcerned with concepts like "justice". SPAMmers, Scammers, Lamers and Kooks frolic in unabashed revel of their nefarious habits. The Fools and Trolls are free to spew misconceived notions, and blatant falsehoods, with no other reason than to instigate discord.

It is the mission of the Knights Of Fire to bring Light to the Darkness of the Internet... to dent the helmets of whichever churls should block the Path... to give Aid and Enlightenment to those in need... and most importantly, to Laugh. Laughing with the ones who "get it", and at the ones who don't. Laugh at the antics of clowns, and at the ridiculous starchiness of the terminally stodgy. Laugh at the bigot, and the zealot; the puffed-up, and the burned-out. What the modern breed of villain craves most of all, is to be given credence. By exposing the villain as worthy only of ridicule and derision, the day is won.

4) Goals:

The OOTIKOF will strive to continue bringing Flamage to the masses, to point out stupidity wherever it lurks, and to educate the ignorant in the proper respect for and appreciation of the Eternal Flame.

5) Where are the OOTIKOF?

   The OOTIKOF isn't an actual thing anymore.
   We can barely be said to exist here, much less anywhere else.

6) Can I be OOTIKOF?

You probably can’t, actually. It’s nothing personal, but we select new Knights for many reasons, not only based on Flaming ability. Publishing the entire criteria list would negate its usefulness. Let’s just say… don’t call us- we’ll call you, mmkay?

After being in ICU for several days Dea passed away on January 10th.

"So last night I said goodbye to the best mom I’ve ever had. She’d been fighting her body for far too long. She is finally with my sister again. I am grateful to of had such an amazing person as my mother for a little over 40 years. I will continue to do my best to make her proud. (That way she doesn’t haunt me) I love you mom.

I also want to thank all the friends and family that have already reached out. It means a lot.

In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to the Charleston Animal Society in her name. That’s what she would have wanted."

That's a quote from the FB post by her son... not by me.

I only met Dea after I got access to the WebTV groups.

Damn...she was such a good, kind person.

I was thinking about her just the other day, cuz of the gargoyle she once gave me as a gift. I still have it very close to my desk, where it continues to protects me and my surroundings from harm.

I recall the hardships she went through twenty years ago, struggling to keep her head above water.

Over the years, I sent her hundreds of Homer Simpson images to give to her son, as he was a real fan of that iconic character.

I'm glad that we met up in real life. She truly was a nice human being.

She will be fondly remembered.

Wow, it's been a long time since I've thought of the conversations with people like Sievert or Chillandra in alt.culture.knights, and I was meaner than I remembered to Kirk in some of our exchanges.

One of these days I might even think about apologizing to him for that.

I wish we had kept in contact with more of the old crew.

I just viewed this and noted that two wrestlers, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall (RIP), were members of this ridiculous King Arthur club. Was it stealing another Knights horse that got them booted?
