Liz Cheney secretly busted the GOP behind closed doors for hiding important facts about Trump.

According to a report from the Washington Post on the Republican Party's war on Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) over her opposition to Donald Trump, the conservative Wyoming lawmaker called out GOP officials for having evidence that Donald Trump trailed badly in the polls -- and then hid that information from the Republican Party leadership.

With Cheney expected to lose her Conference leadership spot to Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY)
Cheney has been furious with the party for weeks
for denying the truth about the former president.

According to the Post, "Rep. Liz Cheney had been arguing for months that Republicans had to face the truth about former president Donald Trump —
that he had lied about the 2020 election result and bore responsibility for the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

When the Wyoming Republican sat down at a party retreat in April to listen to a polling briefing.
The refusal to accept reality, she realized, went much deeper."

Two sources familiar with the meeting recalled, "When staff from the National Republican Congressional Committee rose to explain the party's latest polling in core battleground districts, they left out a key finding about Trump's weakness, declining to divulge the information even when directly questioned about Trump's support by a member of Congress."

"Trump's unfavorable ratings were 15 points higher than his favorable ones in the core districts, according to the full polling results, which were later obtained by The Washington Post.

Nearly twice as many voters had a strongly unfavorable view of the former president as had a strongly favorable one," the Post reports before adding, "Cheney was alarmed, she later told others, in part because Republican campaign officials had also left out bad Trump polling news at a March retreat for ranking committee chairs.

Both instances, she concluded, demonstrated that party leadership was willing to hide information from their own members to avoid the truth about Trump and the possible damage he could do to Republican House members.

The report notes that Cheney has been at odds with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) over Trump for an extended period of time, and that she was " ...
shocked when McCarthy signed on to an amicus brief in a Texas case seeking to overturn the election, after he'd told her in a private conversation that he did not plan to, according to a person familiar with the conversation."

Republican defends Cheney by blasting his party for 'embracing lunacy' over governing.

Former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) isn't welcome in today's Republican Party, according to many in his state.
The Arizona leader left office after drawing the ire of former President Donald Trump and was ultimately censured by the state GOP for it.

"It is elementary to have to say this, but we did not become a great nation by believing or espousing nonsense, or by embracing lunacy.
And if my party continues down this path, we will not be fit to govern."

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) is expected to be removed from the House GOP leadership on Wednesday during the caucus meeting. She'll likely be replaced by less conservative Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) because she supports Trump and Cheney does not.

The Trump problem didn't just happen, Flake argued. It has been coming for years, arguably since the birther conspiracy. That became one of the main reasons that Flake said he couldn't stand with Trump, even if they agreed on policies.

"This allergy to self-evident truth didn't happen all at once, of course," he wrote.
"This frog has been boiling for some time now.
The Trump period in American life has been a celebration of the unwise and the untrue.
From the ugly tolerance of the pernicious falsehood about President Barack Obama's place of birth to the bizarre and fanatical fable about the size of inauguration crowds, to the introduction of the term 'alternative facts' into the American lexicon, the party's steady embrace of dishonesty as a central premise has brought us to this low and dangerous place."

He noted that he expected speaking out would be something that his fellow members would embrace
or at the very least accept.

"I remain astonished that so few did. Congresswoman Cheney, I know how alone you must be feeling.
But just know that history keeps the score, not Kevin McCarthy or Elise Stefanik," he wrote.

He closed by telling Cheney to hold her head high.
Even if she loses, history will prove she fought for democracy when America needed it most.

Liz Cheney: Republican ousted from leadership for challenging Trump election claims
Published 21 minutes ago
BBC

US Republicans have voted to oust a top lawmaker, Liz Cheney, from her leadership post over her criticism of former President Donald Trump.

The Wyoming lawmaker, daughter of ex-US Vice-President Dick Cheney, has held the third-ranking post in the House of Representatives since 2019.

On Tuesday she said her party could not stand for truth if it upheld Mr Trump's false claims he won the 2020 election.

House Republicans will likely replace her this month with a Trump loyalist.

The move is seen as a sign Mr Trump's grip on the party is stronger than ever six months after he lost the election.

Ms Cheney's fate was decided by House Republicans in a vote behind closed doors on Wednesday morning.

Colleagues reportedly applauded her leadership tenure, but booed as she spoke to them during the session.

Ms Cheney has repeatedly condemned Mr Trump over his unfounded claims the 2020 vote was stolen from him.

In an impassioned speech on the floor of the House of Representatives Tuesday night, she said: "I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former president's crusade to undermine our democracy."

Immediately following her ouster, she told reporters: "I will do everything I can to ensure that the former president never again gets anywhere near the Oval Office."

Why was Cheney in trouble?

Her political fall from grace stems from the aftermath of the Capitol riots on 6 January, when Trump supporters stormed Congress.

She was one of 10 members of her party who voted days later with Democrats to impeach the then-president for incitement of insurrection. He was acquitted in the Republican-controlled Senate.

Accusing her of disloyalty, rank-and-file House Republicans held a vote a month later on unseating Ms Cheney from her role as party conference chair.

But the party's leader in the lower chamber, Kevin McCarthy, advised colleagues at the time against removing her. She survived the secret ballot by 145-61. Since then she has continued to upbraid Mr Trump.

The final straw for many party colleagues seems to have been her anti-Trump broadside last week in a Washington Post op-ed. After its publication, Mr McCarthy and his deputy, Republican whip Steve Scalise, began taking steps to oust Ms Cheney.

Mr McCarthy was recently caught on a hot mic telling a Fox News presenter: "I've had it with her. You know, I've lost confidence."

On Monday, the California congressman wrote to his colleagues: "Each day spent relitigating the past is one day less we have to seize the future." He added: "It's clear that we need to make a change."

A counterpoint to Trumpism
by Anthony Zurcher, North America reporter

Liz Cheney was 10 years old when the first Star Wars film premiered. Forty-four years later, she's playing Obi-Wan Kenobi to Donald Trump's Darth Vader, telling him that if he strikes her down, she will become more powerful than he can possibly imagine.

With her ouster from House Republican leadership on Wednesday morning, the first part is done. Now it's up to Cheney to build an anti-Trump movement that makes the second part a reality.

Unlike some other Republican officeholders who challenged Trump and then faded into the relative obscurity of corporate boards, minor book deals and occasional talk show appearances, Cheney is planning an ambitious campaign to support politicians who chart a course away from Trump and his continued efforts to rehash and re-litigate his 2020 electoral defeat.

She is putting herself forward as a reliably conservative counterpoint to Trumpism, and she has the congressional voting record to back that up.

For the moment, Republicans - at least in the House of Representatives - seem to think fealty to Trump is more important than ideological purity. Cheney is betting her political future that this won't always be the case.

Who could replace her?

Elise Stefanik, a four-term congresswoman from upstate New York, is the current favourite to succeed Ms Cheney if she is removed, though such a vote is expected to take place at a later date.

Who is young Republican rising star Elise Stefanik?

A former critic of Mr Trump, the 36-year-old has morphed over the last couple of years into one of his staunchest allies.

He repaid her loyalty on Monday with an endorsement.

Congresswoman Stefanik is poised to become one of the most powerful women in her party

"The House GOP has a massive opportunity to upgrade this week from warmonger Liz Cheney to gifted communicator Elise Stefanik," he said in a statement.

However, not everyone in the party supports Ms Stefanik, with some complaining that her voting record in the House is too liberal.

Chip Roy, a member of the hardline conservative Freedom Caucus, set forth his opposition to Ms Stefanik in a memo to colleagues on Tuesday.

"Let us contemplate the message Republican leadership is about to send by rushing to coronate a spokesperson whose voting record embodies much of what led to the 2018 ass-kicking we received by Democrats," the Texas congressman wrote.

What next for Cheney?

She is now fighting for her political life back in her constituency, where her party has already voted at the state level to censure her for voting to impeach Mr Trump.

At least five Republicans have filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run against her in 2022.

Of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Mr Trump, nine in total now face primary challengers from within their party to unseat them from Congress next year.

What next for Trump and the party?
Mr Trump has been hinting he may run for the White House again in 2024.

Polls indicate he would easily recapture the Republican nomination for a rematch against US President Joe Biden, should the Democrat run for a second term.

Exasperated by Mr Trump's stranglehold on the party, more than 100 Republicans, including some former elected officials, plan to release a letter this week threatening to form a third party, reports the New York Times.

I don't care if Liz is in or out.
but-
She absolutely is going throw heat on the
the defunct Republican part-
It will never regain its stance by all means
the once republican party is gone..
The steadfast and old of the true republican party
who are still among the senate & house will
be canceled..
Only the kooks will remain and they will
need to rename the republican party
perhaps calling it Qngone Autocracy ....
And a 3rd party will be created..A party that once was
of Lincoln, Regan, and Bush will be recreated...

Liz Cheney Primary Challenger Harriet Hageman Pulls Ahead By Double Digits
Jon Dougherty. June 10, 2022

Rep. Liz Cheney, a co-chair of the Jan. 6 Committee, joined the panel for its first prime-time hearings on Thursday but got some bad news following the broadcast.

Specifically, she is way behind her GOP primary opponent, Harriet Hageman, who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.

“Just 28 percent of Wyoming Republican voters say they would cast a ballot to reelect Cheney in the 2022 midterms, according to a new poll from Fabrizio, Lee & Associates survey and consulting firm,” the Daily Mail reported Friday.

“The survey of 400 likely Republican primary voters in the deep red state shows that 56 percent would vote for Trump-backed candidate Harriet Hageman over the incumbent if the election were held today,” the report added.

That’s a 28-point deficit to Hageman, a deficit that is likely too steep a hill for Cheney’s reelection bid to successfully climb, according to most political observers.

Adding to Cheney’s troubles, even fewer Wyoming Republicans had a favorable view of her — only 26 percent, with 73 percent viewing her unfavorably.

The outlet adds:

Cheney is one of the two Republicans – along with Illinois Representative Adam Kinzinger – serving on the House select committee probing the riot at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

That post on the panel created by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, as well as her vote to impeach Trump, cost Cheney favor with her constituents, a censure from the Wyoming GOP and Republican National Committee (RNC), as well as her No. 3 post in the party as House Republican Conference Chairwoman.

Hageman easily won a straw poll which was conducted by the Wyoming Republican State Central Committee in January, garnering 59 votes, according to the Casper Star-Tribune.

Cheney, meanwhile, garnered just 6 votes in a very distant second place.

The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney has been a thorn in Trump’s side for more than a year, having criticized him while in office and then blaming him for inciting the Jan. 6 riot. She further inflamed tensions with Trump when she voted with 10 other House Republicans to impeach him and then agree to co-chair the committee assembled by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to investigate the origins of the riot.

Hageman’s totals were cheered after they were first announced at Saturday’s meeting of the state central committee, the Star-Tribune noted.

“I think it’s a good sign. It’s not an endorsement, but these are the county activists,” Hageman said in an interview with the newspaper.

In backing Hageman last fall, Trump said she “is running against warmonger and disloyal Republican” Cheney.

“Harriet is a fourth-generation daughter of Wyoming, a very successful attorney, and has the support and respect of a truly great U.S. Senator, Wyoming’s own Cynthia Lummis,” Trump continued.

“Harriet Hageman adores the Great State of Wyoming, is strong on Crime and Borders, powerfully supports the Second Amendment, loves our Military and our Vets, and will fight for Election Integrity and Energy Independence (which [President Joe] Biden has already given up),” he added.

“Unlike RINO Liz Cheney, Harriet is all in for America First. Harriet has my Complete and Total Endorsement in replacing the Democrats’ number one provider of sound bites, Liz Cheney. Make America Great Again!” the former president concluded.

In noting Trump’s endorsement of Hageman, Politico reported it will be a test of his ability to put candidates he backs across the finish line.

“Trump’s looming involvement in the primary will test his political power in the GOP like never before, as he seeks to punish the most high-profile House Republican to vote for his impeachment in January,” said the outlet.

“His allies and team not only encouraged Hageman to run against Cheney — they now are under pressure to clear the crowded primary field of other candidates who could split anti-Cheney sentiment, which would give the incumbent the chance to win her primary with only a plurality,” Politico added.

Trump’s record of backing winning GOP primary candidates far exceeds the number of candidates he backed that did not win their races.
