Trump's 'free speech' app charges users a fee that goes to the NRSC.
Many tech programs, from social media to browsers to business networking apps, are free to use —
But one platform that may not be free, according to The Focus, is former President Donald Trump’s new social media platform Truth Social.
The Focus’ Bruno Cooke reports- “Truth Social doesn’t currently appear on the Apple Store or Google Play Store, although former U.S. President Donald Trump appears to be active on a beta version of the app….
Cooke goes on to describe what the registration process is like with Truth Social. Users, Cooke reports, are “required to enter your first and last names, an e-mail address and a mobile phone number.”
“The mobile number is required, although the accompanying text includes the sentence ‘if you would prefer to donate online without providing your phone number, click here,’ with a link to a similar webpage asking for donations,” Cooke explains.
“The question is: why redirect people to a donation page as an alternative to providing a phone number? The answer appears to be a donation is required to join the Truth Social app.”
Cooke adds, “After submitting a valid name, e-mail address and phone number, the webpage redirects you to the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s (NRSC’s) WinRed page to reserve your username….
Truth Social allows users to join the app waiting list for free, but it doesn’t let you reserve a username. To do that, you have to make a donation to the NRSC.”
Cooke reports that although the “exact figure you need to pay to gain access to the app isn’t clear,” reporting in the Daily Dot “suggests it is $35.”
“If Truth Social does cost money to sign up when it finally launches this month,” Cooke notes, “it would be one of a small number of social media apps to do so. Most are free to join and make their money from advertisers.”

There's no such thing as a free app, all of them get something or other from you.

Exactly, they get your time when you're forced to sit there and watch the ad. My time isn't free.

TRUTH Social Twitter Ripoff Follows in the Footsteps of His Prior Failures.
If there is one thing that is consistent about Donald Trump, it's his unchallenged status as America's biggest loser. He has seemingly boundless ability to screw up everything he touches.
The former reality TV game show host, who was evicted from the White House after a single disastrous term, also has a resume of humiliating failure that is unmatched. It includes his four bankrupt casinos, his fraudulent university, his steaks, his vodka, his airline, his D.C. hotel, his scam charitable foundation that was shut down because it was stealing funds, and so much more.
Trump also bears the dishonor of being the first president in history to be impeached twice. He is the first president in decades to leave office with fewer people employed than when he started. He exploded the national debt by cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy. He incited deadly riots in Washington, D.C. by insurrectionist mobs. And he is directly responsible for the deaths of nearly a million Americans due to his incompetent mishandling of the COVID pandemic.
Now Trump has proudly launched what he delusionally believes will supplant Twitter in the social media space. But his TRUTH Social got off to an ignominious beginning. As reported by the Daily Beast...
"Would-be users of Trump’s new app merely struggled to create an account after Sunday night’s launch. Around 11 p.m. ET, select users who tried to create accounts were repeatedly met with a red error warning: 'Something went wrong. Please try again.'" [...]
"On Sunday, Devin Nunes, the former Republican congressman-turned-CEO of Trump Media & Technology Group, said that he hopes the new app will be fully operational by the end of March." This inauspicious introduction was met with appropriate mockery.
Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu tweeted that "Many people say that if #TruthSocial can’t even handle opening new accounts, how will it keep your account from being hacked? Also, the problems won’t be fixed until late March. So is their staff like 2 people, the failed Devin Nunes and his cousin’s friend who is the coder?"
From the other side of the aisle Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger also tweeted that "Social media sadly thrives on conflict. #truthsocial (which is ironically named) will be boring and fail, because it will be all Trump-fed drones. BUT, please don’t come back to real social media if you left for Trump and Nunes great idea. You get your one shot."
These are all good points. What's more, it bears noting that TRUTH Social's user base has a ways to go before it can considered competitive with Twitter's 200,000,000 users.
At present there is a significant difference in the potential for interactions between the two platforms. For instance, Trump had more than 88,000,000 followers on Twitter. He has 175 followers on TRUTH Social. Country singer Travis Tritt has 286,000 followers on Twitter. He has 40 followers on TRUTH Social. GOP Rep. Madison Cawthorn has 364,000 followers on Twitter. He has 0 followers on TRUTH Social. With stats like that Trump's cult disciples are surely going to rush to delete their Twitter accounts and live exclusively on TRUTH Social. Right?
It's easy to see why Trump is so anxious to make this move. He has been banned on Twitter. And he has lost about 98% of his likes and retweets that are now posted by his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill, Liz Harrington. But he is unlikely to restore his former online glory. For one thing, he will be competing with other conservative social media sites (Gab, Parlar, Gettr, and the MyPillow guy’s FRANKSpeech) that beat him to the market (and are failing anyway).
However, Trump has a business plan that he's convinced will rocket him to the top of the conservative garbage heap. He'll just sue his competition, or try to outlaw them, and if that doesn't work just ask everybody to ditch them:
"Twitter is a disgrace to democracy. They shouldn’t be allowed to do business in this Country. [...] Everybody should drop off of Twitter and Facebook."
That should do it. Now there will probably be hoards of Trump Deplorables signing up for TRUTH Social any minute now, just waiting to interact with people who think exactly like they do in a community that is a tiny fraction of what Twitter has. What could be more fun? Let's hope that they find happiness there and, as Rep. Kinzinger said, "Please, don’t come back."

(((BAHAHAA))
MAGA fans are getting duped by ‘shady’ copycats of Trump’s Truth Social app.
More than 100,000 people — mostly MAGA fans who didn't realize the difference — reportedly have downloaded a ripoff of former president Donald Trump's Truth Social app.
"Listed as 'MAGA Hub — Truth Social Trump,' the Android app was displayed as the top result for the search term 'Truth Social' — the name of Trump's app — on the Play Store as of Tuesday morning," Insider reports.
"The Truth Social app was released for iOS on Sunday, and its official website states that a Play Store version is 'coming soon.' However, not all users seemed aware that the Android version of the app wasn't out yet."
According to Insider, MAGA Hub users can be charged $28.99 for in-app purchases — but it's unclear what buyers receive.
"They are also automatically subscribed to a global chat group, through which they are sent a constant stream of memes and messages," the site reported.
Gizmodo's Tom McKay said he tried to sign up for MAGA Hub on Tuesday, but received an error message.
"Eventually, the app randomly began displaying content from its news feed, which almost exclusively consisted of the kind of things you’d see in a QAnon channel on Telegram or a t-shirt at CPAC," McKay reported.
"Many users appeared to have been under the impression that MAGA Hub was the Android version of Truth Social. While as of Tuesday afternoon the vast majority of people appeared to have caught on, a number of users had seemingly missed the memo."
According to the Washington Post, MAGA Hub is one of "several copycat sites" that "beat Trump’s social network to the punch, including a totally unaffiliated 'social app for truth' that charges users $4.99 a week."
Another site, TMTGSocial.com "has hundreds of users posting pro-Trump content, seemingly under the impression they’ve joined the real thing," the newspaper reported.
"For months, many of them have been posting comments and photos, friending each other and following fake Trump accounts," according to the Post. "Others have voiced their excitement that Trump is, as one said, about to 'let the TRUTH PREVAIL.'”

Trump’s “Truth Social” Site, Branded as Beacon of Free Speech, Is Banning Users.
Truth Social, the social media platform that former President Donald Trump promised would “stand up to Big Tech” after several websites banned his account, launched on Sunday — but users have already complained about long waitlists and glitches in the sign-up and registration process.
Truth Social looks a lot like Twitter, with tweets being labeled “truths,” and retweets being labeled “retruths.”
The app, which is so far only available to iPhone users, has been almost impossible to use since its launch. There is currently a waitlist users who have tried to sign up but can’t, and one site-wide outage lasted more than 13 hours. Users have also reported that they cannot access the site’s terms of service.
The site’s problematic rollout is leading some privacy experts to suggest that there may be more issues with the platform, particularly concerning the security of users’ personal data.
“There is no better sign of a rushed implementation than the fact that you can’t onboard anybody. So I’m hard-pressed to understand why anyone would trust that these people would keep their information safe,” said privacy researcher Bill Fitzgerald to The Washington Post.
The site has also broken its promise to be a social media hub where users are free from censorship.
Trump has repeatedly complained about being banned from platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube — yet Truth Social is already blocking users from creating parody accounts, a type of speech that is protected by the First Amendment.
Truth Social is banning accounts that take aim at former Republican Congressman Devin Nunes, who is now in charge of the site’s parent company, Trump Media & Technology Group. Matt Ortega, who manages the Twitter account @DevinNunesCow, attempted to parody Nunes on Truth Social, but was banned after signing up earlier this week.
Although Trump promised that Truth Social would be the standard-bearer of free speech and anti-censorshiP__
Truth Social’s terms of service grant the site permission to ban “any person for any reason or for no reason” whatsoever.
Trump promised to create his own social media company after several sites banned him over his false and incendiary rhetoric following the attack on the U.S. Capitol building by a mob of his loyalists over a year ago.

Trump's Truth Social accused of trying to build 'legitimacy' ____ by creating fake accounts for major media networks.
According to a report from Axios, Donald Trump's new social media platform that has gotten off to a ragged start is creating fake accounts for major media organizations that cover sports in order to build up traffic and create a feeling of "legitimacy."
The report notes Truth Social has gone ahead and allowed extreme right-wing white nationalist Nick Fuentes set up an account, based on screenshots provided to Axios, and that accounts for ____ ESPN and the NFL have also popped up -- but they appear to be "bot" accounts.
With Sara Fischer of Axios writing, the accounts "suggest the platform is trying to foster legitimacy," she added, "Truth Social displays accounts for various brands, including @NFL, @FoxSports, @ESPN and others.
Sources confirm that none of those accounts were set up by the entities they claim to represent, although they are set up to look like they are real brand accounts, via links and logos.
According to Fischer, "There are 'BOT' labels on those accounts, which may suggest the Truth Social accounts are reposting content those brands have published on other social media sites."

Trump's Truth Social team has 'fallen on its face' – and the former president isn't even using his own app.
Former president Donald Trump appears to have already lost interest in his newly-released social media app, according to a report from Axios.
Since he was banned from mainstream social platforms for spreading misinformation, Trump desperately has tried to establish a new digital presence on his own. It hasn't gone well. For instance, 45office.com flamed out shortly after its launch and doesn't appear to have been updated in nine months.
Last month he announced the launch of the social messaging app Truth Social, but, as Axios is reporting, the launch has been anything but flawless. Former California Republican congressman and Trump sycophant Devin Nunes is CEO of the new venture.
The launch on Feb. 21 was plagued with errors. While the number of downloads from Apple's App Store was huge, so was the number of people who were shunted into a "waitlist" to be accepted as a user. Scores of people also encountered system errors when they tried to enter their birthdates to register and received the following message: "Something went wrong. Please try again."
"The former president is Truth Social's founder and chairman, so he obviously bears some responsibility for putting together the team that's so far fallen on its face."
Here's the most ironic aspect to Trump's latest social media foray, which he labeled a "stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech:" He doesn't actually use the app himself. He hasn't posted one single time since its launch, Axios reported. Instead, pretty much all of his public utterances have come through appearances on Fox News and other conservative media outlets.
The SPAC that put up the money to develop and launch Truth Social predicted that 88 million of Trump's former Twitter followers would migrate to the new platform. As of today, his dormant account has fewer than 80,000 followers. One of them is self-proclaimed white nationalist Nick Fuentes, who was awarded a "verified" account by the site.

After waiting three weeks to join Truth Social, I just got banned after posting my first comment.
I simply posted this: “There was massive voter fraud in the 2020 election. And despite this, Donald Trump still managed to lose.”
I posted my ban on Twitter @TheFungi669 (Captain Obvious). I have received almost 10,000 likes right now.
I thought it was supposed to be about freedom of speech? They're already banning people?”
“Rule #1 of Truth Social is you cannot question or make derogatory comments about the cult leader. So much for truth and free speech.”

What the hell is wrong with trolls these days? Hell we used to spend weeks infiltrating muslim sites before springing the trap. Use a name and avatar they'll like, post some stuff they agree with for a while, get to know a couple of regular posters... then -*BAM*- fill up the board with pictures of barbecued ham and bacon sandwiches. Their screams still pleasurably echo in the dark recesses of my mind

Investors in Trump's TRUTH Social Scam Lost 37% in Just the Past Two Weeks.
"TRUTH Social" was announced months ago, but it's official launch has been repeatedly delayed. Now its CEO, former Republican congressman and fake farmer Devin Nunes, says it is in the midst of a "soft" launch and will be fully open for business by the end of March.
Apparently that news didn't thrill the investors who have dared to put their money where Trump's mouth is. Two weeks ago DWAC, the stock that is serving as a holding vehicle for "TRUTH Social", was sitting at $100.00 per share. Today it just hit $63.00. That's a decline of 37% in just two weeks. It's down even more from the high of $175.00 that it hit shortly after the launch announcement.
Most of the recent news about "TRUTH Social" has been bad. It has been unable to accommodate new users trying to sign up. There is a waiting list of a few hundred thousand who still can't log in. Those who have gained access are not raving about what they've found. It's a boring echo chamber of Trumpistas who do nothing but affirm each others fantasies. Trump doesn't even use the site. He posted one comment three weeks ago and nothing since. Politico reports that...
"Trump and his immediate circle have shown little public interest in "TRUTH Social". Trump’s inactivity has been a source of frustration among some allies pushing the app. Former first lady Melania Trump is on the app but also announced in February that she will be making another platform, Parler, her 'social media home.'
There are no verified accounts on "TRUTH Social" for the former president’s adult children Donald Jr., Eric, Ivanka or Tiffany, although there are unverified accounts purporting to be them."
There are also no verified accounts for Trump loyalists Steve Bannon, Rudy Giuliani, Glenn Beck, or Tucker Carlson. All of which begs the question:
Why would anyone use "TRUTH Social" rather than Twitter, or one of the many existing conservative competitors (GAB, Parlar, Gettr, and the MyPillow guy's FrankSpeech), that are also struggling to survive?
Perhaps Trump is depending on his "personality" to lift "TRUTH Social" above the pack. More likely he is relying on his old game plan of suing his competition, or trying to outlaw them, or if that doesn't work, just politely ask everybody to ditch them.

Truth Social: The failing anti-Twitter platform even Trump barely uses.
Trump is unhappy with his new social media network. Trump is said to be particularly piqued by the sluggish rollout – some would-be Truth Social users are still waiting to get on to the platform – and upset that Truth Social is not more popular.
The former president’s anger is not unfounded. In early March the network was averaging just 300,000 visits each day. Truth Social spent 21-23 February as the most downloaded app on the Apple app store, according to Similarweb, but ____ by 12 March it was only the 173rd most popular app.
The problems with Truth Social go deeper than the fact that barely anyone uses it.
At the time of writing, there is no way to use Truth Social on a webpage, with a user forced to download the app to their phone. That only works, however, if they have an iPhone, because Truth Social is not yet available as a Google app. Shared links to individual Truth Social posts bring up an error message.
Unlike Twitter, the Truth Social app is sluggish, while the list of profiles suggested to new users is thin at best – largely because “many major players in the conservative world aren’t on the app.”
The missing major players appear to include the rightwing media figures Steve Bannon, Glenn Beck and Tucker Carlson, as well as Trump’s sometime lawyer Rudy Giuliani. (There is a @RudyGiuliani account on TruthSocial, but it has just 35 followers and is unverified.)
The big-name conservatives who have joined don’t seem to be seeing much reward. Hannity posted several truths on Tuesday morning; [/u]more than four hours later one post had been liked by 10 people, another by just nine.[/u]
Trump’s one truth has been liked 86,000 times, and received 13,000 replies, although many of those appear to be spam postings advertising a niche conservative cryptocurrency.
There is little evidence of political diversity on Truth Social, despite Trump’s promise that the platform would be a “big tent” filled with people of “all political stripes, and all different viewpoints”. Whether an echo chamber of rightwing voices proves an attractive proposition to Truth Social’s users remains to be seen.
But while Trump lovers might be willing to put up with a clunky, Twitter-aping platform, and – to date – a dearth of content, a bigger problem might be that Truth Social is far from the free speech utopia Trump promised.
“We find ourselves being censored and dictated to by a small group of self-righteous scolds and self-appointed arbiters of what everyone else is allowed to think, say, share, and do,” Trump said in a press release in October.
“We will not silence our fellow citizens simply because they might be wrong – or worse, because we think that Americans ‘can’t handle the truth’.”
But a review of Truth Social’s terms of service reveals a comprehensive list of things people can and cannot do and say on the platform.
Truth Social also reserves the right to___ “refuse, restrict access to, limit the availability of, or disable” anyone’s posts. People should also not make contributions which are “false, inaccurate, or misleading”__ which could prove a problem for a site founded by a man who continues to lie about the accuracy of the 2020 presidential election.
Truth Social even provides a physical address where users can direct their complaints, and it seems that those complaints will go right to the top. The address is in Palm Beach, Florida, at 1100 South Ocean Blvd. Specifically, it is the address of Mar-a-Lago, the private members club and vacation resort where Trump has lived since leaving the White House.

The Ugly Truth About Trump Media Acquirer Digital World’s Shares.
Many issues face investors in the company, above and beyond the sharp falloff of interest in Truth Social.
The SPAC that’s acquiring former President Donald Trump’s media company is facing a daunting list of negatives as it moves towards closing the transaction.
Real Money Columnist Brad Ginesin outlined the most notable ones recently.
“The problem is that DWAC is trading at an absurd valuation and its stock is highly likely to tank in the coming months,” Ginesin wrote on Real Money.
“This is not the right market in which to speculate on an impossible-to-value stock with no earnings, scant revenue, uncertain prospects and buyers solely focused on the company's celebrity appeal,” Ginesin added.
“Yet people foolishly are buying the stock, with a toxic valuation, at precisely the wrong time,” he wrote.
"Last month, Trump Media unveiled its Twitter clone, Truth Social, which was followed by a moment of excitement as the app raced to number one in downloads."
"The initial enthusiasm quickly ran its course; now the app's ranking has plummeted, with the media outlet seeing barely any usage. This bodes poorly for the success of Truth Social and anyone invested in Digital World Acquisition.”.
Given that Trump's previous media effort 'From the Desk of Donald Trump,' received minimal readership and shut down after 29 days "the status of his appeal is clearly in question,” Ginesin noted.
