| Biden’s Job Approval Tanks Again Just Weeks Away From Midterms
Jon Dougherty, September 18, 2022 President Joe Biden has gotten another round of bad news ahead of crucial midterm elections that will define the remainder of his first term. According to an Ipsos poll released last week, just 39 percent of respondents approved of the job Biden is doing as president. Worse, just 9 percent said they believe the country is heading in the right direction under Biden and Democratic leadership, with a whopping 74 percent saying America is on the wrong track. Meanwhile, 54 percent disapprove of Biden’s job performance. Just 25 percent of Independents say they approve of Biden’s performance. Breitbart News added: The terrible polling for Biden comes as the midterm election is about 50 days away. Biden’s approval rating is a bad sign for Democrats, who are trying to hold on to the Senate and the House. Democrats believe they have a greater opportunity to keep the Senate than the House, though Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) believes Democrats will actually pick up seats. Pelosi was roundly ridiculed for that projection.
As the midterms approach, the nation’s top issue remains the economy and specifically inflation (30 percent), the poll found. Immigration (8 percent) and crime (8 percent) round out the top three most important issues for Americans. “The Ipsos poll confirmed what a recent Quinnipiac poll revealed; that despite Biden’s attempts to ignore and distract from inflation, soaring costs remain the top issue,” the outlet continued. Biden has recently given speeches in key battleground states like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, but he has avoided discussing the economy and inflation, the two most important issues for Americans, The Associated Press reported last week. “President Joe Biden has stopped talking so much about inflation worries,” AP writer Josh Boak noted. “It’s a self-edit ahead of the midterm elections in November.” Americans are feeling the pain, economically, without question. “We’re your typical middle-income average American family,” mother and wife Briana Howard told the New York Post. “We’re more mindful at the grocery store … It’s like, ‘What do we have a coupon for?’ I mindlessly picked up a pack of $10 grapes, that’s not something I can continue to do.” “Diners have become my luxuries,” attorney Rob Abiuso also told the outlet. “There really is no surplus income anymore. There really is no savings anymore. I pray that all this turns around.” “People have told me I lost weight, but I can’t afford groceries,” comedian Gary DeNoia said. “I used to go shopping and plan my meals for the week. But [now] a Fage yogurt is $10. A bag of Doritos is $7. It’s cheaper to eat takeout … I have never eaten this much Chinese takeout because the lunch special will last me three days.” In July, a survey found that a whopping half of Democrat voters do not want him to campaign again for the presidency in 2024, The Daily Caller reported. The USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll found that a mere 39 percent of voters approved of Biden’s performance so far, and 69 percent of all voters, which includes 50 percent of democrats, do not want him to run for president again in 2024. The Daily Caller added: The top alternatives for Democratic voters were Vice President Kamala Harris and Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, each of whom were the top choice of 18% of Democrats, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who reeled in 16%.
The most important issues for Democratic voters were abortion, which 27% said was their priority, and the economy, which 12% said was their top issue.
David Axelrod, a former adviser to then-President Barack Obama has become the latest Democrat to cast doubt about Biden’s political future in 2024. Axelrod was asked in July about a recent poll indicating that 75 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters said they do not want Biden to run again in 2024, according to Newsweek. Responding, the former Obama whisperer said that a “time will come when these numbers have to be accounted for, and he’s going to have to make a decision” on whether he wants to run for reelection. “I mean, obviously, this is a very unhappy bit of data for him. I’m sure, you know, it is concerning,” Axelrod said. |

Biden’s Approval Rating Rebounds Voters were asked whether they approve or disapprove of President Joe Biden’s job performance.
Biden’s Approval Rating Is on the Rise 43% of voters approve of Joe Biden’s job performance after a steady improvement that follows a July.
A string of wins for Democrats Biden’s increasing popularity is welcome news for the Democratic Party in advance of the midterms given how important the president’s standing has historically been to his party’s chances of maintaining House and Senate majorities.
It comes after a string of good news for the president, from falling gas prices and a stronger-than-expected July jobs report to bipartisan legislation for U.S. military veterans, semiconductor manufacturing investments and, finally, a massive partisan victory in the form of the Inflation Reduction Act.
In the latest survey, 58% of voters said they had seen, read or heard “a lot” about the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s execution of a search warrant at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida, far more than the 36% who heard the same of Biden’s signing of the legislation.
While that figure is far less than the share who heard a lot about Biden’s signing of a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package last year that led to a boost in his standing and voters’ views of Democrats on Capitol Hill, the survey shows other good signs for the Democrats, who are looking to upend typical midterm dynamics, when the president’s party nearly always pays an electoral penalty.

| Biden’s Job Approval Plummets With Midterms Just Weeks Away Martin Walsh, October 13, 2022
President Joe Biden just got another round of horrible news as November’s crucial midterm elections are now less than one month away.
A brand new Ipsos poll found that just 39 percent of respondents approved of the job Biden is doing as president. Only 9 percent said they believe the country is heading in the right direction under Biden and Democratic leadership, with a whopping 74 percent saying America is on the wrong track.
Meanwhile, 54 percent disapprove of Biden’s job performance and just 25 percent of Independents say they approve of Biden’s performance. Americans are feeling the pain, economically, without question.
“We’re your typical middle-income average American family,” mother and wife Briana Howard told the New York Post. “We’re more mindful at the grocery store … It’s like, ‘What do we have a coupon for?’ I mindlessly picked up a pack of $10 grapes, that’s not something I can continue to do.”
“Diners have become my luxuries,” attorney Rob Abiuso also told the outlet. “There really is no surplus income anymore. There really is no savings anymore. I pray that all this turns around.”
“People have told me I lost weight, but I can’t afford groceries,” comedian Gary DeNoia said. “I used to go shopping and plan my meals for the week. But [now] a Fage yogurt is $10. A bag of Doritos is $7. It’s cheaper to eat takeout … I have never eaten this much Chinese takeout because the lunch special will last me three days.”
Making matters worse, the U.S. Department of Labor said that consumer prices continued to soar in September as price pressure remains hot throughout the economy.
Fox Business reported:
The Labor Department said Thursday that the consumer price index, a broad measure of the price for everyday goods including gasoline, groceries, and rents, rose 0.4% in September from the previous month. Prices climbed 8.2% on an annual basis.
Those figures were both higher than the 8.1% headline figure and 0.2% monthly increase forecast by Refinitiv economists, a worrisome sign for the Federal Reserve as it seeks to cool price gains and tame consumer demand with an aggressive interest rate hike campaign.
In an even more concerning development that suggests underlying inflationary pressures in the economy remain strong, core prices – which strip out the more volatile measurements of food and energy – climbed 0.6% in September from the previous month. From the previous year, core prices jumped 6.6%, the fastest since 1982.
A separate poll this week found that a majority of Americans are fed up with high prices and disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy overall.
Below are some of the topline findings from the AP-NORC poll:
–Some 46% of people now call their personal financial situation poor, up from 37% in March, according to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. That’s a notable downturn at a particularly inopportune moment for Biden, given that the share of Americans who felt positive about their finances had stayed rock steady over the last few years — even during the economic turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic.
–Overall, 54% say their finances are good in the latest survey. That figure was at least 62% through the global recession caused by the pandemic in 2020, and even in late 2021 and early 2022 as prices began to rise across the country.
–Forty-three percent say they approve of how Biden is handling his job as president, while 25% say the country is headed in the right direction. Biden’s approval rating had dropped as low as 36% in a July AP-NORC poll, and the percentage saying the country is headed in the right direction dropped as low as 14% in June.
–The drop in financial well-being was especially acute among Americans in households making less than $50,000 a year, just 33% of whom now call their personal finances good compared with 50% in March. Sixty-one percent of those in a household making between $50,000 and $100,000 call their personal finances good, as do 75% of those making more than that — both down only slightly since earlier in the year.
–In the latest poll, 23% call the national economy good. That’s similar to the percentage in June but down slightly from 29% in September, when views of the national economy had shown signs of improvement. The drop since September came primarily among Democrats, from 46% then to 35% now.
–But the economy has proved a challenge — with gasoline costs becoming a renewed source of financial pressure. The average price at the pump was $3.92 a gallon on Wednesday, up roughly 5.5% from a month ago, according to AAA. Support for Biden had picked up after a 99-day drop in gas prices from a June high that ended in September.
–Only 36% say they approve and 63% disapprove. But Americans aren’t heaping all the blame for inflation at Biden’s feet: 55% say higher-than-usual prices are mostly because of factors outside Biden’s control, while 44% say that’s happening mostly because of Biden’s policies.

| Biden approval dips to 39% as Democrats brace for midterms -Reuters/Ipsos Jason Lange Tue, October 25, 2022 at 3:02 PM
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Joe Biden's approval rating edged closer to the lowest level of his presidency just two weeks before U.S. midterm elections that will shape the rest of this term, a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll completed on Tuesday found.
The two-day national poll found that 39% of Americans approve of Biden's job performance, a percentage point lower than a week earlier.
Biden's unpopularity is helping drive the view that Republicans will win control of the U.S. House of Representatives and possibly also the Senate on Nov. 8. Control of even one chamber of Congress would give Republicans the power to bring Biden's legislative agenda to a halt.
Taking office in January 2021 in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, Biden's term has been marked by the economic scars of the global health crisis, including soaring inflation. This year, his approval rating drifted to as low as 36% in May and June.
In this week's Reuters/Ipsos poll, one third of respondents picked the economy as the country's biggest problem, a much larger share than the one in 10 who picked crime. Only one in 20 pointed to the end of national abortion rights.
The poll, conducted online in English throughout the United States, gathered responses from 1,005 adults, including 447 Democrats and 369 Republicans. It has a credibility interval - a measure of precision - of four percentage points. |
