Kevin McCarthy 'moving all of his belongings' into Speaker's office despite GOP opposition.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is so confident that he will be the next Speaker of the House that he is already moving his belongings into the Speaker's suite, according to a report.
Newsmax congressional correspondent Logan Ratick broke the news to host Bob Sellers on Monday.
"We do know that Kevin McCarthy is moving all of his belongings into the Speaker's suite, but if he loses and is not eventually the Speaker of the House, he'll have to move all of that stuff out," Ratnick reported from the House.
"That would be embarrassing," Sellers noted.
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives will vote for a new Speaker on Jan. 3. At least nine Republicans have said they will block McCarthy from becoming Speaker.

McCarthy allies push for him to 'never leave the floor' until GOP rebels back down:
With just a day to go before the election of House Speaker, Republican leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) still hasn't locked down the votes he'll need to win a majority.
Pro-McCarthy sources who spoke with CBS News reporter Robert Costa say that the GOP leader's allies are urging him to adopt a strategy of flat-out refusing to leave the floor of the House of Representatives on Tuesday until his detractors within the party relent and make him the Speaker of the House.
"What I keep hearing tonight at Cap from sources close to McCarthy: he’s going to stay on the floor tomorrow," reports Costa. "That’s the plan. Battle it out, if need be, but do it in the open and have the conversations in public. He’s being told to never leave the floor by rank-and-file allies."
McCarthy's allies fear that if he does leave the floor, it will give his nemeses time to push for a "leadership shakeup" and perform "member theater."
Given how unpredictable such a closed-door battle would be, McCarthy's allies think the only solution is to "never leave the floor."
This all comes as comparatively moderate Republicans such a Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) have been warning the anti-McCarthy hardliners that he and other Republicans might work with Democrats to elect a moderate GOP Speaker if they tank McCarthy's bid.

Conservatives threaten to withhold critical McCarthy support, hours before speaker vote.
Kevin McCarthy has already moved into the speaker’s office, even as an influential conservative group urges members to vote against him unless he concedes to key rules changes.
Further developments Monday indicated the GOP leader's staunchest critics still aren't ready to give him the votes he needs, despite his last-ditch efforts to shore up support..
Republicans are preparing for a grueling day Tuesday. Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-N.D.), a McCarthy ally, predicted Republicans will go “however long it takes.” But the first vote would provide some early indications on how the day would play out, he added.
“The way the alphabet works, you’ll know on the first ballot pretty quickly. And then we’ll figure out how it grinds out,” Armstrong said, referring to the alphabetical process for calling on members to cast their votes.
Armstrong predicted that it would be a “long night.” When asked if that meant votes would last until Wednesday’s early hours, he quipped back: “January 10th?”
Meanwhile, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), who McCarthy opponents are backing as a figurehead for their frustration, described the Californian as being in “total bargaining mode” but that he doesn’t believe McCarthy “will ever get to 218 votes.”

'Screw these guys!' Former GOP lawmaker says his party is getting exactly what it deserves
Former Rep. David Jolly (R-FL) did not hold back on Tuesday when giving his analysis of the chaos being unleashed by House Republicans' repeated failure to confirm leader Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House.
Jolly said that the fracturing of the GOP was entirely predictable given the kinds of right-wing extremists Republican leadership has catered to over the last several years.
"Screw all these guys, right. You voted Donald Trump to be leader of your party and refuse to stand up to him, and he elevated Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz."
Jolly went on to say that, even if McCarthy goes on to become House Speaker, he would not last long on the job.
"Whoever gets to be Speaker will be there for two years, maybe less," he said. "And you're going to be working with all of these people that Donald Trump handed you, and you accepted and you empowered them and you celebrated them! It's a bunch of garbage, and it's why a couple people are taking a victory lap today and it's okay to do so."

Matt Gaetz sticks the knife in Kevin McCarthy and suggests he's unlawfully occupying Speaker office.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), whose efforts have led to Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) losing three votes for the Speakership in a single day, took a victory lap on Monday night by taking the opportunity to further rub salt in the California Republican's wounds.
Writing on Twitter, Gaetz suggested that McCarthy is now unlawfully keeping his belongings in the office reserved for the House Speaker before he had ever been elected to the position.
In fact, Gaetz even went so far as to send a letter to Architect of the Capitol, J. Brett Blanton, to question him about the legality of McCarthy occupying the Speaker's office.
"What is the basis in law, House rule, or precedent to allow someone who has placed second in three successive speaker elections to occupy the Speaker of the House Office?" Gaetz asked Blanton. "How long will he remain there before is considered a squatter?"
Gaetz concluded his letter by arguing that McCarthy "can no longer be considered Speaker-Designate following today's balloting."
Read the full letter below.
The Speaker of the House Office in the Capitol is currently being occupied by Kevin McCarthy. Kevin McCarthy is not the Speaker of the House. He lost 3 consecutive votes today. I demanding answers from the Architect of the Capitol. — Rep. Matt Gaetz (@Rep. Matt Gaetz) 1672800068

Watch: Matt Gaetz pours salt in 'desperate' Kevin McCarthy's wounds and dares him to hold another vote.
On Wednesday, following a meeting with GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) taunted him as "desperate."
Gaetz is one of a handful of Republicans who have declared they will not vote for McCarthy for Speaker under any circumstances — and he reiterated his commitment to that.
"He's a desperate guy whose vote share is dropping with every subsequent vote," said Gaetz. "And I'm ready to vote all night, all week, all month, and never for that person. So I'll tell you what, when he comes out, and heads back to his squatting in the Speaker's office, which — why is he even allowed to be there? Like, is there some basis in law or statute or rule for someone who comes in second place in six consecutive Speaker races, to be able to assume the Speaker's office?"
The "squatting" line was repeated from the previous evening, when Gaetz released a trolling statement calling on the Architect of the Capitol to remove McCarthy for "unlawfully" trespassing in the Speaker's office.
Gaetz also added that he and his far-right wing of the party "endeavor[ed] to create that list [of concessions we want] to provide it to Mr. McCarthy. And then he ran around telling all y'all and members of his team that we were out there negotiating for personal favors." And he demanded McCarthy "apologize" to him.
This session marks the first time in 100 years that a Speaker was unable to be elected on the first ballot.
Most Republicans are still in line behind McCarthy, as of press time, 21 Republicans opposed him on the most recent ballot — far more than the four that he can afford to lose and still make the required 218 votes.

| Kevin McCarthy elected US House Speaker after 15 rounds of voting Published 7 hours ago By Bernd Debusmann on Capitol Hill and Matt Murphy in London BBC News
Kevin McCarthy has been elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives after heated exchanges which almost saw fellow Republicans come to blows.
It took 15 rounds of voting for Mr McCarthy to win the job, despite his party having a majority in the chamber.
It came after a dramatic pressure campaign played out live on the House floor as party rebel Matt Gaetz was urged to vote for Mr McCarthy.
The Florida Congressman was among six holdouts who relented late on Friday.
Earlier, amid heated scenes in the chamber, Mr Gaetz had almost come to blows with Rep Mike Rogers - a supporter of Mr McCarthy. The Alabama congressman had to be physically restrained by colleagues as he bellowed and jabbed his finger at Mr Gaetz.
The Speaker sets the House agenda and oversees legislative business. The post is second in line to the presidency after the US vice-president.
Speaking after his confirmation, Mr McCarthy wrote on Twitter: "I hope one thing is clear after this week: I will never give up. And I will never give up for you, the American people."
Mr McCarthy told reporters that former President Trump had helped him get the final votes: "I don't think anybody should doubt his influence".
"He was with me from the beginning... he would call me and he would call others," he said.
US President Joe Biden congratulated Mr McCarthy for his win and said he looked forward to co-operating with the Republican Party.
"The American people expect their leaders to govern in a way that puts their needs above all else, and that is what we need to do now," he said.
Republicans have already pledged to launch investigations into Mr Biden's family business dealings and administration.
In a remarkable turnaround in the 12th round of voting, Mr McCarthy was able to persuade 14 Republican holdouts to cast their vote for him. A 15th rebel followed suit for the 13th ballot.
After the 13th ballot was adjourned, Mr McCarthy insisted to reporters that he would "have the votes" to take the speakership on the next round.
But the California congressman was still three votes short of the 217 he needed to take the prized gavel, and in chaotic and dramatic scenes, he again failed to win on the 14th ballot.
The dissidents included members of the House Freedom Caucus, who argue that Mr McCarthy is not conservative enough to lead them as they work to try to oppose Democratic President Joe Biden's agenda.
Mr McCarthy has offered various concessions to the rebels, including a seat on the influential rules committee, which sets the terms for debate on legislation in the chamber.
He also agreed to lower the threshold for triggering a vote on whether to unseat the Speaker, to only one House member, leading to the possibility that the Republican coalition could easily fracture again even after Mr McCarthy's victory.
As the last politician on the roll - Montana's Ryan Zinke - voted, the House floor erupted in applause as it became clear Mr McCarthy had finally emerged victorious.
Mr McCarthy hugged other representatives and signed autographs, but across the room the Democrats' side was completely silent. No democrat applauded.
Senior Democratic Party lawmakers accused Mr McCarthy of ceding power to an extreme wing of his party and likened the stand-off to the riot exactly two years ago on Capitol Hill by Trump supporters who disrupted Mr Biden's certification as president.
"Two years ago insurrectionists failed to take over the Capitol," Congressman Eric Swalwell wrote on Twitter. "Tonight Kevin McCarthy let them take over the Republican Party."
And Virginia Congressman Don Beyer referred to the angry scenes among Republicans that followed the 14th count.
"Unsettling that this process ends in threats of violence in the House Chamber, on this of all days," he said. "Maybe it didn't determine the outcome, but that is no way to conduct the people's business. A dark and sobering moment will probably be remembered long after this session ends."
After finally after being handed the Speaker's gavel Mr McCarthy hugged House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries
The minority Democrats had continued to vote in unison for their leader, New York's Hakeem Jeffries, the first black person ever to lead a party in Congress.
Friday was the first day that Mr McCarthy's vote count actually surpassed that of Mr Jeffries.
Mr McCarthy opened his acceptance speech joking; "that was easy, eh?". He outlined a range of Republican policy objectives that included lowering prices, securing the US-Mexico border and combatting what he described as a "woke indoctrination".
He said one of his primary goals was to stop "wasteful Washington spending".
The lawmakers began leaving the Congress around 02:00 local time (07:00 GMT) on Saturday morning - 14 hours after the gavel first rang at noon.
Not since 1860 in the build-up to the American Civil War has the lower chamber of Congress voted this many times to pick a speaker. Back then it took 44 rounds of ballots.
In November's midterm elections, Republicans won the House by a weaker-than-expected margin of 222 to 212. Democrats retained control of the Senate.

Forfuksake ... Is Jan 6 the only thing that ever happened in these peoples' lives? ...So, in their view, the attack on Pearl Harbor, the attack on 9/11, the Jan 6 riot, and now the electing of republican house speaker,- are all right up there in the most traumatic events in American history - Quote :
"Two years ago insurrectionists failed to take over the Capitol," Congressman Eric Swalwell wrote on Twitter. How could we possibly forget the constant, relentless, repeated referances to Jan 6 over the past two years<?> .. - Quote :
"Tonight Kevin McCarthy let them take over the Republican Party." Swalwell is among the biggest assholes in the democratic party ... So heated debates and voting is now the same as what they themselves deem as an "inserection" ... Debating and voting is the *democratic* way to an election ...which apparently to them is now also *a threat to democracy* among a thousand other things .. Go figure

California ‘One more embarrassment’: McCarthy debacle wearily received in California home town.
Kevin McCarthy’s home town – the hardscrabble city of Bakersfield, in California’s Central Valley – has experienced plenty of bruised feelings over the past week, but not necessarily because people have felt the pain of their congressman’s tortured path to the House speakership.
Many have bristled at being under a national spotlight during what even Fox News has described as a political clown show. Local Republicans appeared increasingly defensive as McCarthy fell short in vote after vote – before finally prevailing in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Democrats, meanwhile, expressed growing concern that McCarthy had been taken captive by his party’s far-right wing and, especially, by apologists for the violent insurrection at the US Capitol two years ago.
None of it reflected well on a distinctly unfashionable city known for its hot, dusty climate and polluted skies, its big agricultural businesses and the hundreds of oil wells dotting the surrounding hills.
“I only wish they would have stopped saying Mac [McCarthy] was from Bakersfield,” a local insurance salesman, Mark Pearse, wrote in a letter to the local newspaper. “We do not need any more negative publicity.”
Reached by phone, Pearse elaborated: “We’re already in the top ten of a lot of negative things. Pedestrians getting run over. Our police and sheriff’s department shooting and killing people. This is just one more embarrassment.”
Certainly, nobody has been out in the streets cheering on the local celebrity. McCarthy’s district office, which sits in a business park next to a cluster of medical offices, resembled a suburban fortress with blacked out windows, a door kept locked at all times, and a sign under the door bell saying the only way to be invited in was to call by phone.
Staff referred all questions – even questions about a protest on the anniversary of the January 6 uprising taking place directly outside – to McCarthy’s Washington office.
Sitting in front of a life-sized cardboard cut-out of Abraham Lincoln on Friday, with Fox News reporting the 13th of the 15 vote counts on the television, Abernathy dismissed the week’s drama as an uncommonly visible version of business as usual on Capitol Hill and said the characterizations of McCarthy as weak or politically tone-deaf were grossly unfair.

Matt Gaetz 'successfully rolled' Kevin McCarthy and handed Democrats a new weapon
Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is going to have some explaining to do when he has to reveal to his caucus what he promised the far-right extremists in the House in his unrelenting campaign to be handed the gavel.
As the former GOP spokesperson explained to host Alex Witt, the new speaker probably got "rolled" and the concessions he made will come in handy for Democrats trying to slow McCarthy's agenda down.
Addressing Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) attempt to attack Gaetz after his "present" vote on the 14th ballot, Bardell explained, "Well I think that the feeling, that temperament that Congressman Rogers put on display, I think it really captures how a lot of members really feel about how Matt Gaetz successfully rolled Kevin McCarthy here and I think that feeling is only going to fester and grow as more and more members find out what the true cost of the speakership was for Kevin to attain it."
"One point that I want to make," he later added. "The absolute insanity here of having only one member being able to make the motion to vacate."
"Listen, that is a two-way street here," he elaborated. "If Kevin McCarthy and Republicans kick members like [Democratic reps] Eric Swalwell or Adam Schiff off of their committees, what is to stop them from going to the floor every day saying, 'Well, now that I'm off of their committees I can just say I want to do a motion to vacate and take up all of the floor-time."

Democrats obstructing is nothing new... Most of the committee meetings are filmed and televised... Everyone can witness them purposely obstructing
What's funny is the hypothetical example used above turned into reality with a kicker .. Schiff *and* Swalwell getting kicked off and Omar to boot
