“I’m kicked off YouTube y’all,” McInnes wrote in a Telegram post on Monday afternoon. “350k sub[scriptions], 155 videos, 30 [million] views, 15 years. I’m told they are also going after [accounts] that feature me in any positive light.”
McInnes included an image of a message that purportedly came from YouTube in which the platform said that his account had been suspended for “content glorifying or inciting violence against another person or group of people.”
Defend democracy. Click to invest in courageous progressive journalism today. McInnes has already been kicked off Twitter and Facebook and appears to have been previously banned by YouTube in 2018 for copyright infringement. He recently created a video streaming platform of his own for fellow far right commentators like Jacob Wohl and Laura Loomer.
“We have strict policies that prohibit hate speech on YouTube,” a YouTube spokesperson told Salon by email in a statement. “We terminate channels that repeatedly or egregiously violate our policies.” According to YouTube, the company updated its hate speech policy in June 2019 to ban content such as speech that claimed one group is superior to another. This led to a fivefold increase in the number of channels and videos that the streaming platform had to remove for violating its hate speech policies, and included 107,000 videos, 2,600 channels and 43 million comments in the first quarter of 2020.
McInnes, who co-founded Vice magazine in 1994 but was forced out in 2008 after talking about white pride, launched the group Proud Boys in September 2016. One of the group’s main principles, as Vox explains, is violent opposition to left-wing movements. “The right isn’t violent. The left is. By allowing these sociopaths to shut down free speech with violence you are all but demanding a war,” McInnes wrote.
In another screed, McInnes wrote that Proud Boy meetings “usually consist of drinking, fighting, and reading aloud from Pat Buchanan’s ‘Death of the West.'” McInnes argued that “the basic tenet of the group is that they are Western chauvinists who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world. Like Archie Bunker, they long for the days when girls were girls and men were men.”
Emblematic of the group’s tendency to mix contrived machismo with a self-pitying persecution complex, McInnes added, “this wasn’t controversial even twenty years ago, but being proud of Western culture today is like being a crippled, black, lesbian communist in 1953.”

Facebook Verizon pulls ads from Facebook over inaction on hate speech Company is the biggest yet to join growing movement, which includes Ben & Jerry’s and Patagonia, to boycott the social network
Drew/AP Verizon is pulling its advertising from Instagram and Facebook, the biggest name so far in a growing movement to boycott the social network for not doing enough to stop hate speech on its platforms.
The company said on Thursday it will join other companies including Ben & Jerry’s, Patagonia and REI in suspending advertising from Facebook-owned platforms until the company “can create an acceptable solution that makes us comfortable”.

Facebook Facebook policy changes fail to quell advertiser revolt as Coca-Cola pulls ads
Marcio Jose Sanchez/AP Facebook has announced changes to its policies around hate speech and voter suppression, but the measures have done little to quell the wave of companies pulling advertising from the platform amid backlash over how the company handles hate speech online.
The CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, on Friday announced tweaks to a number of policies, hours after the multinational Unilever said it would pull its advertisements from the platform for the next six months.
Zuckerberg’s announcements, however, did not halt companies’ demands for change. On Friday afternoon,
------ Coca-Cola, Honda, the chocolate brand Hershey, and the apparel companies Lululemon and Jansport joined the more than '100' brands boycotting advertising on Facebook.
Jessica J González, the co-founder of Change the Terms and co-CEO of Free Press.
Change the Terms cited the existence of more than 100 white supremacist Facebook accounts that are still active on the platform.
Others noted that Donald Trump’s post about shooting looters during civil rights protests remains live on the site.
Zuckerberg also said the company will not be changing its policies that allow lying in paid political advertisements. Rashad Robinson of the Color of Change said the CEO’s statement “was 11 minutes of wasted opportunity to commit to change”.
“Zuckerberg’s new changes don’t go nearly far enough,” Robinson said on Twitter. “Labeling ‘newsworthy’ content so the public can judge for themselves is not a new policy. It’s more of the same, and it won’t cut it.”

The pressure appears to be working. Late on Friday, Zuckerberg announced the company will now label "newsworthy" posts from politicians that break its rules on, for example, hate speech or violent speech. It's a significant shift, given the company has up till now totally refused to moderate politicians' rhetoric.
Business Insider's Tanya Dua also reported that Facebook's ads team is trying to placate fleeing advertisers by saying the company is serious about addressing their concerns about hate speech, and had committed to a third-party audit of its policies.
Advertising accounts for almost 100% of Facebook's revenue, with the firm pulling in $17.4 billion in ad sales in the first three months of this year.
The civil rights groups behind the #StopHateforProfit campaign, NAACP, Color of Change, and the Anti-Defamation League, called on Facebook to take stronger action.
"We have been down this road before with Facebook," NAACP wrote on its site. "They have made apologies in the past. They have taken meager steps after each catastrophe where their platform played a part. But this has to end now."

Twitch Just Temporarily Banned Donald Trump Over “Hateful Conduct”
Social media sites have been clamping down on Donald Trump and the president’s supporters over hateful conduct. Over at Reddit, the behemoth site just banned the most significant community dedicated to Trump, citing hate speech and harassment.
Twitter has labeled a couple of Trump’s tweets over mistruths about the election, and in another, for promoting violence. Advertisers are fleeing from Facebook over its refusal to monitor misinformation, including its lax approach to problematic posts by President Trump.
Now the streaming service Twitch has just temporarily banned the president, citing “hateful conduct” and the offending content was removed.
One of the streams in question was a rebroadcast of President Donald Trump’s infamous kickoff rally, where he said that Mexico was sending rapists to the United States, according to The Verge. In addition, Twitch also flagged racist comments at Trump’s recent rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Reddit bans hundreds of subreddits for hate speech including Trump community The announcement came on the same day that Twitch, a live streaming service, temporarily banned Trump for “hateful conduct.”
Reddit said Monday it was banning about 2,000 subreddits including r/The_Donald, where supporters of President Donald Trump had gathered, in a crackdown the tech company said was aimed at communities that promote hate.
“All communities on Reddit must abide by our content policy in good faith. We banned r/The_Donald because it has not done so, despite every opportunity,” Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said in a post on the site.
The announcement came on the same day that Twitch, a live streaming service, temporarily banned Trump for “hateful conduct.” The company, which is owned by Amazon, said in a statement that politicians had to follow the same rulebook for using its site as anyone else, and it cited Trump’s comments about Mexican immigrants.
“Ultimately, it’s our responsibility to support our communities by taking stronger action against those who try to weaponize parts of Reddit against other people,” Huffman, also a co-founder of the company, wrote.
The announcement by San Francisco-based Reddit comes four months before the presidential election and as tech companies are increasingly at the center of political debates — often ones that anger politicians and spark discussion of government regulation.

Reddit made headlines this week for banning 2,000 subreddits under new rules that ban certain violent and hateful content.
While the vast majority of the banned subreddits were small or inactive, the list included r/The_Donald, a pro-Trump community; r/gendercritical, a subreddit where transphobic commentary has thrived; and r/ChapoTrapHouse, the subreddit associated with the left-wing podcast.
All of these actions represent a sea change in how platforms apply their policies. But what, exactly, prompted the decisions?
The ban comes amidst a wave of similar actions across Silicon Valley platforms. Within the last week, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter have all taken action against right-wing figures for violating hate speech policies, while popular streaming platform Twitch temporarily banned President Donald Trump himself.
All of these actions represent a sea change in how platforms apply their policies. But what, exactly, prompted the decisions? After all, people have been complaining about this kind of speech for years.
When it comes to Facebook, the answer is obvious: An advertiser boycott caused the company a $7 billion loss, demonstrating that money talks. But Reddit’s decision to ban major subreddits was not a mere shift in policy application, but a change in policy altogether.
For many years, the company took a hands-off approach to content moderation, leaving decisions up to individual, volunteer subreddit moderators.
Then, last year, Reddit “quarantined” r/The_Donald, making it difficult for new users of the platform to find or participate in the forum.

Subject: Roger Stone Cleaned Out .. Wed Jul 08, 2020 5:24 pm
More than 100 Roger Stone accounts, pages removed from Instagram and Facebook
A network of more than 100 social accounts and pages related to former Trump adviser Roger Stone were removed Wednesday.
The under the radar raid reportedly consisted of 54 Facebook accounts, 50 Facebook pages and four accounts on Instagram, a photo-sharing platform owned by Facebook.
Approximately 260,000 accounts followed one or more of these Pages and 61,500 people followed one or more of these Instagram accounts.
Several of the pages were also linked to the Proud Boys, a far-right group banned from Facebook in 2018.
The pages and accounts in question appeared to have “coordinated inauthentic behavior” focused on audiences in the U.S. targeting Stone directly, political issues in Florida, and hacked materials released by WikiLeaks during the 2016 presidential election cycle.
“The people behind this activity used fake accounts — some of which had already been detected and disabled by our automated systems — to pose as residents of Florida, post and comment on their own content to make it appear more popular than it is, evade enforcement, and manage Pages,”
Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy, wrote in a blog post for the social media giant. “Several of these Pages had links to Proud Boys, a hate group we banned in 2018.
Some Pages appeared to have acquired followers from Pakistan and Egypt to make themselves seem more popular than they were.”
The network was most active between 2015-2017, according to Gleicher.
“Since then, the majority of these accounts have been dormant, and some were permanently deleted by the users,” he wrote. “The Page admins and account owners posted about local politics in Florida, Roger Stone and his Pages, websites, books, and media appearances, a Florida land and water resources bill, the hacked materials released by Wikileaks ahead of the US 2016 election, candidates in the 2016 primaries and general election, and the Roger Stone trial.”
Gleicher added, “We first started looking into this network as part of our investigation into the Proud Boys’ attempts to return to Facebook after we had designated and banned them from the platform.
We identified the full scope of this network following the recent public release of search warrants pertaining to the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller in response to a joint petition from The New York Times, CNN, the Associated Press, The Washington Post, and Politico. Our investigation linked this network to Roger Stone and his associates.”
Gleicher’s team concluded that advertising spent on the campaigns totaled less than $308,000.

Fox News anchor praises QAnon conspiracy theorists for ‘a lot of great stuff’ during Eric Trump appearance
Fox News complained about Twitter banning accounts pushing the discredited QAnon conspiracy theory on Saturday.
“We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm. In line with this approach, this week we are taking further action on so-called ‘QAnon’ activity across the service,” Twitter tweeted on Tuesday. “As we work at scale to protect the public conversation in the face of evolving threats, we’ll continue to lead with transparency and offer more context on our efforts.”
But Fox News host Jesse Watters wondered if it was an attempt to interfew in an election, saying QAnon conspiracy theoriest had “uncovered a lot of great stuff” while interviewing Eric Trump.
Fox News' has some high words of praise for QAnon -- which has been responsible for two murders, two child abductions, one terrorist incident, one church vandalism, one restaurant arson…etc....

President Donald Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr., on Monday retweeted a viral video that was yanked by Facebook for pushing “false information about cures and treatments for COVID-19.”
YouTube and Twitter also pulled the video.
The clip, which was originally posted by the right-wing news site Breitbart, featured four people who identified themselves as doctors speaking in front of the Supreme Court building. One was Stella Immanuel, who claims to be a physician in Houston, and said hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug often touted by Trump, was a cure for COVID-19.
A number of scientific studies have determined that the drug was not only ineffective against the novel coronavirus but that it could cause fatal heart arrhythmia. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at this time, there is no drug or therapy presently approved by the Food and Drug Administration to prevent or treat COVID-19.
Immanuel also said that people do not need to wear face masks and attacked “fake doctors” who “sound like a computer.” To avoid contracting coronavirus, the CDC advises wearing a face mask, limiting face-to-face contact with others and wearing gloves when cleaning and disinfecting or providing care for the sick.
Immanuel has an unusual background for a self-proclaimed COVID-19 expert. Information about her medical background is limited; however, she does serve as the head of Fire Power Ministries, which appears to be located in a Houston strip mall and promotes a baptism of fire program that offers “miracles, healings and deliverance.”
On Monday night, Immanuel threatened Facebook with God’s wrath.
“If my page is not back up face book will be down in Jesus name,” she tweeted.

Trump sued again for blocking people on Twitter The Knight First Amendment Institute filed a new lawsuit against Trump for keeping several Twitter users blocked on his @RealDonaldTrump account.
President Donald Trump is facing more legal woes for blocking people on Twitter despite a court order that he cannot do so.
The Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University filed a new lawsuit against Trump on Friday for keeping several Twitter users blocked on his @RealDonaldTrump account.
The group is suing in federal court in New York — the same court that ruled in May 2018 that Trump cannot block people from using his account because he uses it to announce important policy updates. That decision was backed by a federal appeals court in July 2019, and the circuit court declined to review its decision in March.
But according to the Knight Institute's new lawsuit, Trump has not unblocked users he had blocked before his inauguration. Users who couldn't identify which tweet prompted Trump to block them also remain blocked, the suit said.
Trump's team told the Knight Institute on July 20 that the president doesn't intend to unblock those users, according to the suit. The Knight Institute's lawsuit wants Trump to blanket unblock all users unless there are justifiable reasons to keep them blocked on an individualized basis.
"Defendants’ continued blocking of Individual Plaintiffs … violates their First Amendment rights," the Friday lawsuit said. "It unconstitutionally restricts their rights to read or participate in the discussion occurring in the public forum of the @realDonaldTrump account."
The lawsuit continued: "It also unconstitutionally restricts their right to access statements that Defendants are otherwise making available to the public at large, and their right to petition the government for redress of grievances."
Trump was ordered to unblock Twitter users in the 2018 decision on the grounds that cutting people off from important policy announcements for things they tweeted was a violation of their free speech. In contesting the decision, the Justice Department argued that Trump's Twitter account is not owned by the government and he is free to exclude whomever he liked on his private account, the existence of which predates his presidency.
“An official’s decision to exclude someone from his personal residence would not exercise the authority of the government, even if he were giving official statements on that property on that day,” the Justice Department argued in an August court filing. “And what is true for real property is likewise true for a social media account.”
The White House declined to comment on the lawsuit. The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Adobe to ban political ads on its platform The move makes it the latest tech company to curb political advertising ahead of election.
Adobe said Friday it will stop allowing political ads on its platform on Aug. 30, making it the latest tech company to restrict political ads in the run-up to the presidential election.
The move follows Twitter outright banning political ads on its website last year, and Google and Facebook adding restrictions to political ads running on their platforms.
"The Political Category no longer aligns to our Ad Cloud business goals," Adobe spokesperson Ryan Levitt said in a statement. As a result, the company will ban all political ads on its Adobe Advertising Cloud — a platform for advertisers to buy space on websites, mobile web and on television. Levitt did not provide further details on the reason for the decision.
"We understand that this change may be disruptive to some customers and we’re committed to assisting them in migrating operations to another platform," Levitt said.
Adobe does not have a large presence in the political ad space. A Democratic digital operative, who was granted anonymity to speak freely, said “very few” political operations use the platform.
However, Adobe is a major player in the advertising technology market, which helps serve, buy and sell advertising online and on the mobile web.
While not used as frequently as Google’s products, Adobe Advertising Cloud is a major destination for advertisers. The company brought in $3.2 billion in revenue last year from advertising.
As a result, political advertisers who don't want to have to comply with Google's restrictions will have much more limited options. Google has restrictions on how political ads can be targeted, limiting advertisers to age, gender and zip code and prohibiting targeting based on party affiliation or prior voting history. The company also announced Friday that it would limit advertisements that seek to show or seek to distribute hacked materials.
Adobe's decision was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Twitter Bans Former KKK Leader David Duke Duke repeatedly violated Twitter’s policy on hateful content and harmful links.
July 31 (Reuters) - Twitter Inc said on Friday it has permanently suspended the account of David Duke, a former leader of the white supremacist group Ku Klux Klan, as the social media company tries to curb the spread of hateful content on its website.
Duke’s account had been suspended for repeatedly violating Twitter’s policy on hateful content and harmful links, the micro-blogging site said.
Under Twitter’s hateful conduct policy, any threats of attacks directed at people on the basis of their religion, race or ethnicity is prohibited on its website.
Twitter has long been under pressure to clean up hateful content on its platform and has come under the scanner to control misinformation especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The KKK is the oldest white supremacist group in the United States and its roots trace back to the Reconstruction period in the South that followed the Civil War.
In addition to anti-Black views, the KKK has expressed anti-semitic, anti-immigrant and anti-gay views.

Microsoft announced in a statement Sunday that it will continue discussions to acquire US operations of the popular video app TikTok.
The announcement comes after President Donald Trump told reporters that his administration was looking into banning the Chinese-owned app citing security concerns, sparking widespread concern and panic among creators on the social media platform.
The company said in the statement that it is planning to complete talks with TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, by September 15.

Madonna's coronavirus Instagram post flagged, then removed, for sharing 'False Information' Instagram flagged Madonna's account and then removed a post, after the artist sought to spread information.
The post, which was shared Tuesday, appeared blurred with a warning over the video: "False Information." Instagram removed it by Wednesday morning.
"We’ve removed this video for making false claims about cures and prevention methods for COVID-19," Raki Wane, Instagram's policy communications manager, told USA TODAY in a statement. "People who reacted to, commented on, or shared this video, will see messages directing them to authoritative information about the virus."
Before the post was taken down, text atop the video read: "Reviewed by independent fact-checkers." When users clicked the button "See Why," they were shown a list of falsehoods in Madonna's post.
Instagram started working with third-party fact-checkers and flagging content for inaccuracies late last year, as part of the Facebook-owned social app's commitment, as Instagram says, to "reducing the spread of false information." (As of March, USA TODAY has been part of the fact-checking program.)
As for Madonna's post, Instagram warned that "primary claims in this information are factually inaccurate" before removing it entirely.
The now-deleted video and caption focused on unproven coronavirus conspiracy theories and a fake cure, which echoed misinformation in a clip that was taken down from Twitter after President Donald Trump shared it. On Madonna's post, fact-checkers noted that there is not yet a cure for COVID-19 and that hydroxychloroquine is not a cure.
Madonna has made previous controversial claims about the novel coronavirus being "the great equalizer" and said she tested positive for antibodies and is going to go for a long drive to "breathe in the COVID-19 air."
According to Instagram, posts that are flagged for being false are made more difficult to find "by filtering it from Explore and Hashtags, and reducing its visibility in Feed and Stories." But Instagram is going a step further with the coronavirus conspiracy video and removing all instances of it from their platform, says Wane.

Facebook Removes Video Posted By Trump Over ‘Violation Of Platform Rules’ It’s the first time a Trump post has been removed from the site for COVID-19 misinformation, Facebook said.
(Reuters) - Facebook Inc on Wednesday took down a video by U.S. President Donald Trump in which he said children are “almost immune” to COVID-19, with the company saying it violated its rules against sharing misinformation about the coronavirus.
“This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from COVID-19, which is a violation of our policies around harmful COVID misinformation,” a Facebook spokesman said.
The spokesman said it was the first time that the social media company had removed a Trump post for coronavirus misinformation.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Today..
Besides Facebook; Twitter also banned/suspended trump for lying.
Donald Trump’s campaign got suspended on Twitter , also..
President Donald Trump’s campaign was banned from Tweeting on Wednesday after Twitter told the president his campaign had to delete the misinformation about children not getting the coronavirus.
Earlier in the day, Facebook made a similar move, but removed Trump’s post themselves, marking it a lie. Twitter took a more drastic approach, which is likely going to draw the president’s ire and the anger from his son, Donald Trump Jr. who was barred from Twitter last week.
Twitter has been under pressure to do more about Trump lying on their platform as well as other Trump allies lying about issues.
Twitter spokeswoman Liz Kelley said the tweet “is in violation of the Twitter Rules on COVID-19 misinformation. The account owner will be required to remove the Tweet before they can Tweet again.”

On Monday, NBC News reported that leaked documents from Facebook reveal QAnon conspiracy theorists have penetrated their social network on a scale not previously imagined.
“An internal investigation by Facebook has uncovered thousands of groups and pages, with millions of members and followers, that support the QAnon conspiracy theory, according to internal company documents reviewed by NBC News,” reported Ari Sen and Brandy Zadrozny.
“The investigation’s preliminary results, which were provided to NBC News by a Facebook employee, shed new light on the scope of activity and content from the QAnon community on Facebook, a scale previously undisclosed by Facebook and unreported by the news media, because most of the groups are private.”
“The top 10 groups identified in the investigation collectively contain more than 1 million members, with totals from more top groups and pages pushing the number of members and followers past 3 million,” continued the report. “It is not clear how much overlap there is among the groups.”
The news comes after rival social network Twitter instituted a major crackdown on pro-QAnon content, purging 7,000 related accounts and placing restrictions on another 150,000.
The QAnon conspiracy theory holds that President Donald Trump is working behind the scenes to take down a massive world-spanning pedophile ring run by Democrats and celebrities, with various versions of it claiming President Trump is working arm in arm with former special counsel Robert Mueller or a secretly not-dead John F. Kennedy Jr.
The FBI officials have classified QAnon as a potential source of domestic terrorism, and some of its adherents have gone on to commit political violence, including the murder of a mob boss.
