| Twitter again takes action against Trump for lying about mail-in ballots.
On Monday, President Donald Trump tweeted yet another false claim about mail-in ballots, and implicitly called for throwing out any ballots that have not been received by November 3rd even if they were postmarked before that date.
Twitter took action against the president’s false statement, hiding it behind a warning that it “might be misleading about how to participate in an election or another civic process.”
The social network has previously limited other tweets from the president, including those giving false information about the COVID-19 pandemic and one that appeared to glorify the shooting of civil rights protesters.

Senior DHS official slams Twitter after being locked out of account for ‘hate speech’.
On Thursday, Politico reported that Customs and Border Protection chief Mark Morgan lashed out at Twitter during a news conference on border wall construction, complaining that they had briefly locked his account under “hate speech” policies for tweeting his support of the wall.
The original tweet in question had stated that “every mile helps us stop gang members, murderers, sexual predators and drugs from entering our country.”
“My tweet intended to educate the American people that borders matter, and the great things done by the men and women of CBP and DHS as a whole. My tweet was intended to emphasize that border security is national security,” said Morgan, who previously ran Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. “Americans across this great country didn’t get to see that tweet or the very critical information that was contained in that tweet because Twitter, they removed that tweet and they locked my account yesterday.”
“For some reason the ayatollah tweets out for the full and complete destruction of Israel and that’s OK, but me tweeting out about how effective the wall is and how it absolutely helps us apprehend criminals that try to illegally enter this country, somehow that is hate speech,” said Morgan. “With all due respect Twitter, your locking my account doesn’t pass the BS test.”
The controversy comes as President Donald Trump and his allies have accused social media companies of using their content guidelines to silence conservative speech — an accusation that is not backed by evidence.

| Subject: Facebook’s Political Ads Ban Has Been An Ominous Disaster. Sat Oct 31, 2020 1:07 am | |
| 10-30-2020
Facebook’s Political Ads Ban Has Been An Ominous Disaster.
Just days from the election, the tech giant wrongly blocked thousands of Biden ads due to “technical flaws” — and that’s only the beginning.
Under mounting pressure to quell the flood of partisan misinformation coursing through its platform, Facebook announced a new policy in September: It would stop accepting all new political ads during the week preceding the presidential election.
“This election is not going to be business as usual,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement at the time. “We all have a responsibility to protect our democracy.”
In theory, as Zuckerberg touted, the policy would prevent political advertisers from spreading new messages to targeted audiences before fact-checkers and journalists had time to scrutinize them — reducing the risk of false and misleading claims going viral in the run-up to the vote.
In practice, it has been a disaster.
The ban went into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday. Chaos ensued almost immediately: Thousands of previously approved ads from Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s campaign and multiple progressive groups were wrongly blocked due to a “technical flaw,”potentially costing hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations.
President Donald Trump’s campaign managed to launch new ads post-ban. And in violation of its own rules, Facebook approved ads from the president’s campaign prematurely declaring victory, as well as hundreds of ads bearing the misleading text “ELECTION DAY IS TODAY” or “Vote Today.”
Days later, Facebook is still putting out fires amid searing accusations of partisan bias and negligence. The company’s stunning failure to properly enforce its own high-profile policy at such a critical time has raised alarm about its preparedness for the fallout of the election — the results of which could be inconclusive for days or even weeks.

| Subject: Researchers; trump Rallies- 30,000 Cases 700 Deaths/ Paid a High Price Sat Oct 31, 2020 5:50 pm | |
| 10-31-2020
Researchers attribute at least 700 deaths directly to Trump's disease-ridden rallies.
It’s been clear from the beginning that Donald Trump’s no-mask, no-social distancing, no-common sense rallies were a very bad idea. Trump’s very first COVID-era event in Tulsa took that city to record numbers.
There’s been a lot of reporting about individual cases and clusters of COVID-19 associated with Trump’s events. The number of cases associated with the Amy Coney Barrett introduction event, including Trump’s own, was a vivid reminder of just what an awful idea it is to gather even a smaller group of people at a time when the pandemic is exploding across the whole nation.
But now researchers at Stanford University have turned Trump’s rallies into a case study in wrongness. Looking just at rallies held between June 20 and Sept. 22, they came up with a total of 30,000 cases. That means Donald Trump isn’t just ignoring the pandemic, or even encouraging herd immunity. He’s the nation’s single largest vector of disease.
The researchers worked entirely with data. They started with a list of Trump’s rallies then verified the time, date, and scale of each rally, using local news reports. They also specifically flagged the settings for those rallies, looking for those that were held inside, rather than on an airport tarmac.
Then they turned to COVID-19 data from the place that everyone seems to doomscroll 20 times a day: Johns Hopkins’ Center for Systems Science and Engineering. But the researchers didn’t just look at the bottom line; they used the latitude and longitude of each rally location and constructed a measure to surrounding counties. Then they did something others have also done, by compiling the data into weekly sets in an effort to minimize the noise created by daily variations in testing rate.
To test their data, the researchers also created “fake rallies,” selecting dates and locations where Trump did not have an event, and running the same kind of analysis for comparison.
After all this, what did they find?
Our results, the rallies resulted in more than 30,000 incremental cases and likely led to more than 700 deaths.
Our analysis strongly supports the warnings and recommendations of public health officials concerning the risk of COVID-19 transmission at large group gatherings, particularly when the degree of compliance with guidelines concerning the use of masks and social distancing is low.
The communities in which Trump rallies took place paid a high price in terms of disease and death.

Dr. Tony Fauci comes clean on Trump’s pandemic response: America ‘could not possibly be positioned more poorly’
The nation’s leading infectious-disease expert gave a blunt assessment’s of President Donald Trump’s COVID-19 failures in a bombshell new interview with The Washington Post.
“We’re in for a whole lot of hurt. It’s not a good situation,” Fauci told the newspaper. “All the stars are aligned in the wrong place as you go into the fall and winter season, with people congregating at home indoors. You could not possibly be positioned more poorly.”
Fauci warned America could exceed 100,000 new coronavirus cases a day and called for an “abrupt change” in responding to the pandemic.
“Fauci’s blunt warnings come as Trump has rallied in states and cities experiencing record surges in infections and hospitalizations in a last-ditch effort to convince voters he has successfully managed the pandemic.
He has held maskless rallies with thousands of supporters, often in violation of local health mandates,” the newspaper explained.
Fauci also had harsh words for Dr. Scott Atlas, the controversial neuroradiologist who reportedly has the ear of the president on the pandemic.
“I have real problems with that guy,” Fauci said. “He’s a smart guy who’s talking about things that I believe he doesn’t have any real insight or knowledge or experience in. He keeps talking about things that when you dissect it out and parse it out, it doesn’t make any sense.”

Twitter slaps disclaimer on Trump’s election eve tweet threatening violence.
President Donald Trump received a fact-check on his favorite social media platform on the eve of the 2020 election.
On Monday, Trump threatened that his loss at the Supreme Court will “induce violence in the streets.”

The Supreme Court decision on voting in Pennsylvania is a VERY dangerous one. It will allow rampant and unchecked cheating and will undermine our entire systems of laws. It will also induce violence in the streets. Something must be done!

| Twitter shuts down Trump’s attempt to claim election victory before the votes are counted.
As had been widely feared, President Donald Trump attempted to claim victory in the 2020 presidential race before the votes had been counted.
At 12:49 a.m. Eastern, the leader of the free world sent a tweet that was flagged by Twitter.
“Some or all of the content shared in this Tweet is disputed and might be misleading about an election or other civic process,” Twitter warned.
“We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the Polls are closed!” Trump alleged, despite there being no evidence to support his contention.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) stood up to Trump on Twitter.
“Stop. Full stop. The votes will be counted and you will either win or lose. And America will accept that,” he wrote. “Patience is a virtue.”

Hundreds of thousands joined group aiming to overturn election results before Facebook cracked down.
Facebook apparently took down a “Stop the Steal” group accusing Democrats of trying to “nullify Republican votes” and steal the election— but not until the group had gotten hundreds of thousands of members, directing them to an outside page to maintain strength when Facebook did shut it down.
What’s more, the takedown didn’t come until after there were multiple thinly veiled calls to violence and after Mother Jones reported the group’s ties to Republican operatives, making it look a whole lot like an astroturf operation.
That outside website that “Stop the Steal” used Facebook to funnel people to was registered by a conservative digital consulting firm, Liberty Lab.
Stop the Steal’s website and Facebook page also suggest links to the group “Women for America First,” which is led by the former chief executive of the Tea Party Express. Women for America First was started to protest Trump’s impeachment.
Facebook’s policy on post-election claims would seem to bar Stop the Steal on multiple grounds, and apparently the company did conclude that it couldn’t host that. Just not until the group had hundreds of thousands of members. In moments like these, it’s always worth remembering that Joel Kaplan, Facebook's vice president of global public policy, was a key participant in the 2000 Brooks Brothers riot. |

| Twitter flags tweets from Democrats claiming premature presidential victory
Twitter flagged a number of tweets from Democrats and those on the left who prematurely claimed Democratic nominee Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential race.
The posts were flagged amid complaints that the social media giant only censors users with conservative viewpoints.
A source familiar with Twitter’s actions during election week told Fox News that the platform took action against a number of Democrats, and left-of-center politicians and pundits who tweeted misinformation around the election and premature claims of victory.
The source said many of the tweets referenced a “President-elect Biden,” despite the race not having been called for Biden or President Trump.
The platform flagged a number of tweets, including from former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang, the co-founder of the Democratic Coalition Scott Dworkin, president for the Center for American Progress Neera Tanden, the chair of the Democratic Party in Wisconsin, among others.
The tweets were flagged with: “Official sources may not have called the race when this was Tweeted,” and linked to Twitter’s official “Election Results” page.
Tanden deleted her tweet once it was flagged, which stated: "Biden is already at 270 and his [electoral college] margin will likely grow with [Pennsylvania], and maybe even Georgia. The mission was to defeat the monster. And the monster is defeated."
Twitter’s actions came after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey testified on Capitol Hill last week, and as the platform has been under fire for censoring conservatives and some stories that Republicans believed to be harmful to Biden’s campaign.
For weeks leading up to Election Day, Republicans decried Twitter’s actions to lock the New York Post’s Twitter account, and censor links to the newspaper's stories on Biden’s son, Hunter, and his overseas business dealings. Dorsey said this was due to a policy regarding hacked materials because the stories were based on emails from Hunter Biden's purported laptop.
Twitter, though, did take action flagging Republicans and conservatives during election week.
Twitter marked a dozen of President Trump’s tweets as misleading since Tuesday.
"Some or all of the content shared in this Tweet is disputed," the Twitter notice says.
Trump and many of his supporters have gone on Twitter tirades this week as votes continue to be counted in the battleground states of Georgia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina, and the president's early leads have dwindled or vanished.
He and his team have promoted claims that those states are engaging in voter fraud, illegally counting ballots cast after Election Day and refusing to allow poll watchers close enough to observe the proceedings.
Several flagged tweets included video clips of Trump's press conference on Thursday, an address from the White House claiming, without evidence, that Democrats were trying to steal the election from him.
In others, he declared himself the winner, despite votes in at least three states still being counted, and in one, he said, "STOP THE FRAUD!"
Trump slammed Twitter for flagging his posts, calling the platform "out of control." The president has 88.4 million followers on Twitter, compared with 13.9 million for Biden and 121.5 million for former President Barack Obama.

| Facebook removed Steve Bannon- linked pages for ‘misinformation’ and ‘delegitimizing election results’
Facebook has removed seven pages linked to former Trump chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon for what the social network deemed “pushing misinformation about voter fraud and delegitimizing election results.
“Bannon’s page also incurred penalties, including not being allowed to post content, but was not removed from Facebook, according to The Washington Post.
The seven pages, which used the “Stop the Steal” messaging, had a combined following of over 2.45 million people. The pages were flagged on Facebook by the progressive group Avaazz on Friday night.
ON THE PODCAST: Election Day 2000... all over again? “We’ve removed several clusters of activity for using inauthentic behavior tactics to artificially boost how many people saw their content,” Facebook spokesman Andy Stone said.
“That includes a Group that was originally named ‘Stop the Steal’ which later became ‘Gay Communists for Socialism’ and misled people about its purpose using deceptive tactics.”
The move comes just days after Bannon was permanently banned from Twitter after alleging that President Trump should quickly execute Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious-disease expert. Facebook had also removed two videos from his page for inciting violence, which included beheading.

| Subject: 1-21-2021- Trump Will Lose His Immunity on Twitter Mon Nov 09, 2020 8:01 pm | |
| 11-9-2020
After Jan. 20, 2021, Trump will lose immunity on Twitter and could get suspended for being Donald
Some of those things will potentially be felt almost instantaneously, after Jan. 20, 2021, when Trump is officially not the president of the United States any longer.
For example the Donald will no longer be president after Jan. 20, 2021. In fact, he’ll be just the Donald and possibly even “indicted” Donald.
* This means that social media giant Twitter will no longer retain Trump’s “world leader” privileges on their platform.
* This means, that Trump will not enjoy many of the immunities that has allowed him to spew misinformation and hate when others have been suspended.
*This means that no matter what Trump does, he’s probably going to get himself suspended from Twitter at some point in 2021.

300,000 tweets labeled ‘potentially misleading’ as Trump spreads conspiracy theories while refusing to concede:
Twitter labeled 300,000 tweets related to the US presidential election as “potentially misleading” in the two weeks surrounding the vote.
The social network said the labels were issued between October 27 and November 11, one week before and after the US presidential election on November 3 — which Democrat Joe Biden won over incumbent Donald Trump.
Of the 300,000 flagged tweets, 456 were covered over by a warning message and had engagement features limited — users could not like, retweet or reply to the posts, said Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s head of legal, policy and trust and safety, in a blog post.
She estimated that 74 percent of people who saw the problematic tweets did so after they had been labeled as misleading or flagged with a warning message, and sharing of the posts, as a result, declined by about 29 percent.
During the election period, Twitter posted messages on American users’ pages which were seen 389 million times that “reminded people that election results were likely to be delayed, and that voting by mail is safe and legitimate,” Gadde added.
Nearly half of Trump’s tweets were flagged by the platform in the days following the election, as the president claimed, without evidence, that he had won and that the process had been tainted by massive fraud.

| Parler right-wing social media platform attracts users after FB, Twitter tighten misinformation rules
TOP STORIES by: Russell Falcon Posted: Nov 15, 2020 / 07:48 AM MST / Updated: Nov 15, 2020 / 07:48 AM MST Parler user scrolls through feed of Fox News host Sean Hannity. (NEXSTAR)
AUSTIN (KXAN) — As social media giants Facebook and Twitter elected to become more proactive in flagging misinformation ahead of the 2020 election, several users say they’re abandoning them in favor of “unbiased social media.” Facebook and Twitter’s tightening of rules on posting unsubstantiated claims and/or misleading articles, has been lauded by many and derided by others, namely conservatives, who claim the platforms are only flagging their content. That includes conservatives like Pres. Donald Trump, whose Twitter account displays more flags than an Olympics ceremony. In fact, Trump’s first tweet on Sunday morning blasting an alleged “Rigged Election Hoax!” was labeled: “This claim about election fraud is disputed.” Now, many other users with often-labeled posts are flocking to Parler. The app has shot into the forefront of right-wing culture — with the platform touting itself as a place where users can “Read News. Speak Free.” What is Parler? Here’s why it’s the top app after the election The app was launched in 2018 and is owned by right-wing commentator Dan Bongino, a frequent guest on Alex Jones’ Infowars show, who says his “entire life” is about “owning the libs.” Bongino aims to make Parler a Twitter alternative, while his other platform, Rumble, positions itself as a far-right YouTube. Parler — which is French for “to speak” — has already attracted conservative big-names like Sean Hannity, Newt Gingrich and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Eric Trump is also a user, with 396,000 followers, while Pres. Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani has 322,000. Back in October, Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, both testified before a Senate committee in defense of their platform’s regulation of certain content. According to The New York Times, content that can currently be found on Parler include anti-Semitic speech and QAnon conspiracy theories. Meanwhile, Fortune Magazine writes that Parler is a “haven for extremists” where racist rhetoric and Holocaust denial claims abound. The Anti Defamation League recently published an article titled, “Parler: Where the Mainstream Mingles with the Extreme,” breaking down some of the top accounts on Parler, which includes the Proud Boys with 102,000 followers and QAnon+, which has 44,000. Additionally, ADL explains Parler is home to several known white supremacists, including KKK leader David Duke. The league says it’s monitoring Parler and will “call out hate when we see it.” Nevertheless, Parler says it does monitor content while still allowing “free speech.” “Although Parler may make efforts to review or monitor content, you agree that you will not rely on this fact for any purpose,” Parler’s terms read. The company also notes it will not be held responsible for any “fraudulent,” “damaging,” or “offensive,” content. In response to the rise of the platform, a Reddit page called ParlerWatch was created in an attempt to draw attention to “insane, threatening, or violent content from the social media platform Parler.” Parler is currently the number 6 top download on Apple’s App Store chart. https://parler.com |
