WATCH: House passes $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill in major victory for Biden's agenda.
The House late Friday approved a roughly $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill in a major victory for President Joe Biden's agenda.
The bill, which has already been approved by the Senate, now heads to Biden's desk.
"The funding package, which passed 228 to 206 and relied on Republican votes to get across the finish line, will ramp up government spending on roads, bridges and airports, as well as funding for public transit, water and broadband," NBC News reports.
"The vote hands Biden a victory on a major bipartisan bill, but one that took months to get through Congress and revealed deep divisions in the Democratic Party."
The bill had been held up since August — when it passed the Senate by a 69-30 vote.
"Democrats had wanted to pass the infrastructure bill and a social spending bill at the same time," Scripps reports. "However, moderates and progressives spent months going back and forth over the price and scope of the bill, known as the Build Back Better Act.
The two wings of the Democratic party said they entered into a commitment to vote on the Build Back Better Act no later than Nov. 15, which will provide enough time for the Congressional Budget Office enough time to score the bill."

| Roads, transit, internet: What's in the infrastructure bill Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 MARY CLARE JALONICK | AP
WASHINGTON (AP) — The House has passed a $1 trillion bipartisan plan to rebuild roads and bridges, modernize public works systems and boost broadband internet, among other major improvements to the nation’s infrastructure. The legislation now goes to President Joe Biden for his signature.
Once it is signed by Biden, the new law will reach virtually every corner of the country — a historic investment that the president has compared with the building of the transcontinental railroad and Interstate Highway System. The White House is projecting that the investments will add, on average, about 2 million jobs per year over the coming decade.
The bill cleared the House late Friday on a 228-206 vote, ending weeks of intraparty negotiations in which liberal Democrats insisted the legislation be tied to a larger, $1.75 trillion social spending bill — an effort to pressure more moderate Democrats to support both.
The Senate passed the legislation on a 69-30 vote in August after rare bipartisan negotiations, and the House kept that compromise intact. Thirteen House Republicans voted for the bill, giving Democrats more than enough votes to overcome a handful of defections from progressives.
Here’s a breakdown of the bill that Biden is expected to soon sign into law:
ROADS AND BRIDGES
The bill would provide $110 billion to repair the nation's aging highways, bridges and roads. According to the White House, 173,000 total miles of America’s highways and major roads and 45,000 bridges are in poor condition. And the almost $40 billion for bridges is the single largest dedicated bridge investment since the construction of the interstate highway system, according to President Joe Biden's administration.
PUBLIC TRANSIT
The $39 billion for public transit in the legislation would expand transportation systems, improve accessibility for people with disabilities and provide dollars to state and local governments to buy zero-emission and low-emission buses. The Department of Transportation estimates that the current repair backlog is more than 24,000 buses, 5,000 rail cars, 200 stations and thousands of miles of track and power systems.
PASSENGER AND FREIGHT RAIL
To reduce Amtrak's maintenance backlog, which has worsened since Superstorm Sandy nine years ago, the bill would provide $66 billion to improve the rail service's 457-mile-long Northeast Corridor as well as other routes. It’s less than the $80 billion Biden — who famously rode Amtrak from Delaware to D.C. during his time in the Senate — originally asked for, but it would be the largest federal investment in passenger rail service since Amtrak was founded 50 years ago.
ELECTRIC VEHICLES
The bill would spend $7.5 billion for electric vehicle charging stations, which the administration says are critical to accelerating the use of electric vehicles to curb climate change. It would also provide $5 billion for the purchase of electric school buses and hybrids, reducing reliance on school buses that run on diesel fuel.
INTERNET ACCESS
The legislation's $65 billion for broadband access would aim to improve internet services for rural areas, low-income families and tribal communities. Most of the money would be made available through grants to states.
MODERNIZING THE ELECTRIC GRID
To protect against the widespread power outages that have become more frequent in recent years, the bill would spend $65 billion to improve the reliability and resiliency of the nation's power grid. It would also boost carbon capture technologies and more environmentally-friendly electricity sources like clean hydrogen.
AIRPORTS
The bill would spend $25 billion to improve runways, gates and taxiways at airports and to improve terminals. It would also improve aging infrastructure at air traffic control towers.
WATER AND WASTEWATER
To improve the safety of the nation's drinking water, the legislation would spend $55 billion on water and wastewater infrastructure. The bill would include $15 billion to replace lead pipes and $10 billion to address water contamination from polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS — chemicals that were used in the production of Teflon and have also been used in firefighting foam, water-repellent clothing and many other items.
PAYING FOR IT
The five-year spending package would be paid for by tapping $210 billion in unspent COVID-19 relief aid and $53 billion in unemployment insurance aid some states have halted, along with an array of other smaller pots of money, like petroleum reserve sales and spectrum auctions for 5G service |

"Bloodletting" within the GOP Set Off Over Infrastructure Bill
Kevin McCarthy's failure to derail Biden's infrastructure bill sets off wave of GOP finger-pointing and threats.
The failure of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and party whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) to stop thirteen Republican lawmakers from siding with the Democrats and passing a massive infrastructure bill is setting off a "bloodletting" within the GOP caucus, reports the Washington Posts Aaron Blake.
Late Friday night, thirteen GOP House members broke ranks and voted for the massive $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that now awaits President Joe Biden's signature -- and they were immediately denounced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) who called them "traitors."
As Blake points out, Taylor Greene is not the only Republican who is furious with their colleagues and it could have an impact on McCarthy's becoming the House Majority leader if the GOP takes back the House in 2022.
Along with Taylor Greene's over-the-top accusations of "communism," comrade in arms Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL ) tweeted, "I can't believe Republicans just gave the Democrats their socialism bill."
Freshman House member Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) chimed in before the vote with the threat, "Vote for this infrastructure bill and I will primary the hell out of you," while Rep Chip Roy (R-TX) grumbled afterward, "That 13 House Republicans provided the votes needed to pass this is absurd."
As Blake notes, McCarthy had predicted that the vote would fail and has promised last week, "I don't expect few, if any, to vote for it, if it comes to the floor today."
Taken all together, Blake said it doesn't bode well for either McCarthy and Scalise when the GOP House members hold their next vote for House leadership.
Writing "Ensue the bloodletting," Blake explained, "Republicans are still likely to win the House in 2022, despite the doom and gloom on the GOP side and even as it's likely the bill's passage will help Democrats electorally.
That puts McCarthy in line to be House speaker. But we've written before about the undersold potential debate over whether he would even be elevated to a post he's already failed to grab hold of once. McCarthy's leadership has often been quite uneven, and the demands in the GOP are sky-high for such posts. Scalise, too, would seem to be line for some criticism given his status as the party's whip.
He added that anger -- for the moment -- is focused on the 13 defectors before warnbing, "Whether McCarthy could have prevented the bill's passage is a valid question — he doesn't control the majority, after all — but his party and its base aren't really big on that kind of nuance. And it's unlikely the anger over what transpired Friday will subside quickly." |

"Bloodletting" within the GOP Set Off Over Infrastructure Bill They're either faking it or dense as bricks. Of course some republicans voted for it... the democrats themselves had already turned it from a joke (at 3.5t over ten years) to an insult that only really benefits the wealthy. Surprise surprise. If they're just mad because republicans simply voted for a bill the democrats proposed then they're definitely dense as bricks and somebody ought to remind them that both the red team and the blue team are owned by the same people. 'Murican politics are the most stupid on the entire planet. The fact that a lot of 'Muricans don't see it that way says all you need to know about them, too. |

"For four years, Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress proclaimed that it was 'infrastructure week,'" Schiff, said in a post from his campaign Facebook account. "They promised a big investment in roads, bridges, and highways. And they never delivered. We did. And that's a Big F-ing Deal."
Schiff's use of the phrase "infrastructure week" was in reference to a running joke that emerged during the Trump administration.
Trump officials would often note that a given week was themed after "infrastructure," despite the administration never developing any substantial legislation that gained notable congressional support.
Trump's various "infrastructure weeks" also became notable for how often they were derailed by the former president's scandals.

Trump bitterly attacks 'Old Crow' Mitch McConnell for passing Biden's infrastructure bill.
Former President Donald Trump for years said he wanted to pass a giant infrastructure bill to rebuild America's roads and bridges -- but nothing ever came of it.
Given this, Trump is now furious with Republicans who gave President Joe Biden a win by passing his bipartisan infrastructure, and he put out a statement on Tuesday attacking Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for backing the deal.
"Why is it that Old Crow Mitch McConnell voted for a terrible Democrat Socialist Infrastructure Plan, and induced others in his Party to do likewise, when he was incapable of getting a great Infrastructure Plan wanting to be put forward by me and the Republican Party?" Trump wrote. "He continuously said he couldn't get it passed, just like I had to go around him to get the very popular Southern Border Wall built (which caused great delay—but could now be completed in one month by Biden)."
Trump was unable to get funding for his border wall even when Republicans controlled both chambers of Congress, and he instead pilfered funds from other agencies to construct the wall under the guise of there being a "national emergency."
Despite this, the wall remained unfinished by the time he left the White House this past January. /////............................................................///
