New details have emerged this week about who former President Donald Trump may choose to be his potential 2024 running mate.
A new report from 1945 reveals that Trump is likely to “stun the world” with his 2024 VP pick and actually lists three possible names: Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Arizona Republican Kari Lake, and South Dakota GOP Gov. Kristi Noem.
On Lake, the report states: “Lake certainly looked ascendant last fall when she was competing for Arizona’s governorship. She enjoyed Trump’s endorsement, and she enjoyed favorable coverage in conservative media. It’s not hard to understand why. Lake is a unique creature, spewing the hard right rhetoric that MAGA Nation finds so endearing while doing so with the glitz and polish of a seasoned TV reporter. She was delivering Trump’s message – but she was doing so without the spray tan and the guttural accent and the lack of eloquence. Rather, Lake delivered Trump’s message all pretty-like.”
On Greene, the report said: “Trump loves her and she loves Trump. And impressively, MTG seems to be pivoting into a position of more mainstream acceptance with the GOP (as demonstrated through her support of Kevin McCarthy for speaker). The version of MTG that can appeal to both MAGA and the mainstream is a concerning premise, and someone that Trump has his eye on as a prospective running mate with appeal in the newly-in-play Georgia.”
And on Noem, the report speculates: “The governor of South Dakota is apparently on Trump’s shortlist. Noem said she would be shocked if Trump chose her and I think she means it; she is a long-shot pick. But she’s got a few of the things Trump guns for. One, Noem has been loyal to Trump, vowing to support the former president through the 2024 campaign. And Trump values loyalty above seemingly all else.”
Last week, Trump’s team shared some interesting insight into his potential running mate.
Trump insiders spoke to the Daily Caller and said the 45th president is likely to pick a vice presidential candidate that is “loyal,” has “charisma,” and is “ideologically aligned” with him.
“No candidates have publicly announced their intent to be Trump’s VP, but the former president has indicated that ‘a lot of people’ are ‘auditioning’ behind the scenes. Trump insiders told the Caller that although there haven’t been any formal discussions to narrow down the pool, there are a set of characteristics that will likely be considered,” the Daily Caller reported.
While the insiders did not name anyone specifically in the interview, they did at least share some insight into the type of person he would be interested in.
A recent Politico report stated that an unnamed Trump adviser said the 45th president is likely to choose a running mate “from three general lanes of candidates: women, conservatives of color, or a trusted adviser.”
According to a report from the Washington Examiner, these four Republican women could be high on Trump’s shortlist: South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Arizona Republican Kari Lake.

Sanders, the youngest governor in the United States and the longest-tenured press secretary in the Trump White House, flew up political draft boards after she delivered what Trump supporters agree was an “exceptionally strong” response to Biden’s State of the Union on Feb. 7.
Noem was elected as South Dakota’s first female governor in 2018 after spending more than a decade in the House of Representatives and has made a name for herself as a leading Republican lawmaker in the so-called “culture wars.”
Stefanik, the current chairwoman of the House GOP conference, was elected as a centrist Republican in 2015 but, after serving on the president’s defense team during his first impeachment, has shifted increasingly to the right. She frequently touts her strong ties to Trump and even endorsed his 2024 run days before he announced his candidacy.
Lake is perhaps the strangest potential pick and one many current and former Trump advisers hope he avoids. The former Phoenix-area news anchor lost her Trump-endorsed 2022 gubernatorial bid against Democrat Katie Hobbs, but she only further endeared herself to the former president by repeatedly claiming that widespread fraud occurred in the 2020 election.
One name not mentioned in the Washinton Examiner report is Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. Her name has been floated in the media recently.

Trump’s Campaign Launch Reached Millions More Than DeSantis: Report Jon Dougherty, May 28, 2023
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced he was running for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination on Wednesday, but it was a glitchy affair that was not widely viewed.
DeSantis took to Twitter Spaces in an event co-hosted by the platform’s former CEO, Elon Musk, to make his announcement, which was certainly unique and had its own kind of appeal.
But according to data reviewed this week, it wasn’t nearly as big of a splash as was former President Donald Trump’s televised announcement at his Mar-a-Lago estate in November.
“DeSantis said his glitch-ridden Twitter Space, or a recording of it, had been watched by ‘probably over 10 million people.’ There’s no evidence of this. In fact, the Space managed only just over 300,000 concurrent listeners, with Twitter showing a currently tally of 3.9 million people tuning in,” The National Pulse reported on Friday.
Despite limited coverage by several news networks, Trump’s announcement garnered a substantial number of concurrent viewers. Fox News alone attracted over 5.16 million viewers during the time slot, while CNN added another 2.43 million viewers to the tally, the outlet reported.
Determining the exact number of viewers after the fact is challenging, but it’s possible to gain some insight into the level of interest in Trump’s announcement by examining the streaming numbers on YouTube.
Fox News accumulated 1.2 million views, while Fox Business attracted an additional 826,000 views, and CNBC garnered 612,000 views, among others. These figures provide an indication of the considerable viewership for Trump’s announcement on various streaming platforms, the outlet noted further.
“Video of the full speech uploaded to the site by CNN adds 660,800 viewers, ABC Action News another 923,000, with hundreds of thousands more spread out across channels for relatively obscure broadcasters, with uploads of the speech by the likes of Fox 2 Detroit, for example, boasting 117,000 views,” the outlet continued.
“Video streaming platform Rumble showed a further 2.05 million views on the official account of Donald J. Trump alone, while the Right Side Broadcasting Network (RSBN) announced that it hit more than 3.8 million viewers for the speech.”
Trump, in April 2023, gave a major speech following his indictment in New York that was reportedly viewed by 6.6 million viewers on Fox alone, with another 2.125 million watching on CNN – “far higher than the network ha[d] seen in prime time in months,” Forbes reported.
After months of speculation, the Florida governor officially jumped into the race on Wednesday and, despite the glitchy Twitter Spaces launch, nevertheless made the rounds on several cable news and other streaming outlets.
In a post-announcement interview on Fox News hosted by his former congressional colleague Trey Gowdy, for example, DeSantis laid out his day-one agenda should he manage to win the presidency.

Donald Trump's Iowa town hall: Attacks on Ron DeSantis, Joe Biden and criminal charges

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday combined two familiar venues − Sean Hannity's talk show and the state of Iowa − to lay out some campaign themes, particularly attacks on President Joe Biden, a variety of criminal prosecutors and Republican challenger Gov. Ron DeSantis.
"I really go after the one who's second," Trump said of DeSantis during a friendly town hall in Clive, Iowa, located near Des Moines.
A week after DeSantis officially entered the race, Trump also referenced the importance of the Iowa caucuses and protested the litany of investigations into his past conduct.
Here's what you need to know:
Target DeSantis − ignore others
Cheered on by an enthusiastic pro-Trump crowd, the ex-president repeatedly mangled DeSantis' name, joked about his recent run-in with a reporter and indicated he would continue to attack the Florida governor for as long as he stays competitive in the Republican nomination race.
"I don't think he's going to be second that much longer," Trump said at one point. "I think he's going to be third or fourth."

Trump also mocked some of his other opponents, citing low polling numbers for challengers like former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson.
"I don't understand what they're doing," Trump said.
Earlier in the day, DeSantis told a New Hampshire radio show that Trump's name-calling is turning off voters.
"I think it’s so petty," DeSantis said. "I think it’s so juvenile. I don’t think that’s what voters want. And honestly, I think that his conduct, which he’s been doing for years now, is one of the reasons he’s not in the White House now."
Are more indictments coming?
Trump appeared to brace his supporters for the possibility of more criminal charges in the future, describing the series of investigations against him as political "election interference."
Trump, who is under investigation over taking classified documents and attempts to overturn his 2020 election loss, has made the same arguments for months − including before his March indictment in New York City over false reporting of hush money payments to a former mistress.
The former president did not discuss the specifics of the latest allegation: A CNN report that he discussed classified information about a prospective attack on Iran with two people who helped former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows with his memoir.
"I don't know anything about it," Trump told Hannity. "All I know is this, everything I did was right."
The Iowa caucuses are crucial
Through the hour-long event, Trump kept referring to issues of importance to Iowa voters, whose caucuses early next year will open the Republican delegation selection process. Topics ranged from abortion to agriculture policy in a state where religious conservatives and farmers are key voters.
"There's no way I lose Iowa," Trump said, echoing comments he made while campaigning earlier in the day.
The Democratic National Committee, meanwhile, cited Trump's boast that his appointees to the Supreme Court voted to strike down Roe v. Wade.
"In what was mostly an incoherent, rambling appearance full of recycled lies on Fox News, Donald Trump told the truth at least once in his safe space − no one did more to pave the way for abortion bans across the country than him," the DNC said.
Hitting Biden
Trump, responding to Hannity's questions, spent more time attacking Biden than his Republican opponents.
That included Biden's age, as the Fox host asked about the 80-year-old president's trip-and-fall and speech delivery during graduation ceremonies at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Trump claimed he asked Hannity not to joke about Biden's situation, but did say the Air Force incident was "sad" and that Biden "doesn't understand what is happening in the world."
"That was a bad fall," said Trump, who is 76 years old himself.
Biden got right back up after he tripped over a sandbag left on the stage. After returning to the White House hours later, he joked to reporters that "I got sandbagged!"
'You need six months'
Trump continued to make big promises, saying again that he could stop the Russia-Ukraine war "in 24 hours," a claim that members of both parties have denounced as irresponsible.
During his discussion of the war, Trump found time to again criticize DeSantis for saying he would need two terms to "slay the deep state" and address problems caused by bureaucracy.
"You need six months," Trump said during the town hall, repeating statements he made earlier in the day.
Asked about Trump's claim, DeSantis said: "My question to him would be: Well, you already had four years, why didn’t you slay it then?”

In the run-up to the watershed 2016 election, former President Donald Trump drove cable news networks to record ratings.
At least early on, the 2024 election cycle is shaping up differently.
Trump's latest "town hall" appearance on Fox News Thursday averaged only 2.78 million viewers, down more than half a million viewers from a similar appearance on cable-news rival CNN three weeks earlier.
According to Nielsen figures reported by Mediaite, the Fox News town hall, moderated by Sean Hannity, averaged 320,000 viewers in the core 25-54 demo -- less than half of the 781,000 demo viewers averaged for the May 10 CNN primetime event.
The former president has been steadily trending downward over the years.
As Mediaite noted, Trump's previous six town hall events on Fox News delivered respective audiences of 5.1 million, 4.4 million, 4.2 million, 3.8 million, 3.5 million and 3.2 million viewers.
Over at CNN, meanwhile, no one seems to be boasting.
On Friday, The Atlantic posted a damning portrait of CNN chief Chris Licht, who in addition to facing cratering ratings is now dealing with a serious newsroom morale problem in the wake of the Trump's May appearance.

CONCORD, N.H. — No one can force Donald Trump to debate — except, maybe, Donald Trump.
The Republican National Committee can't do it. Neither can Fox News. Nor can the set of his advisers who think he should match up with his GOP rivals on a stage in Milwaukee in August.
Most of all, none of those rivals are close enough to Trump in polling to make him feel it's necessary. Arguably, like any front-runner, he has more to lose than gain from a debate.
"He is not going to debate unless he’s forced to by changing polling," said a person who has encouraged Trump to take the stage. "I disagree with it, but it is where he is."
All of that helps explain why, in interviews with more than a half-dozen advisers, it was clear that — even in his private conversations — Trump is leaning heavily toward skipping that first debate.
Trump is also exploring options for counterprogramming during the first debate, according to people familiar with his deliberations.
Trump's absence would deprive the RNC, Fox News and GOP primary voters of the Republican Party's most compelling — and most powerful — figure. And Trump knows he can keep attention on himself by making his appearance conditional, at best.
Ripping Fox for failing to cover him as he would like, Trump suggested on his Truth Social media platform that the cable network wants him to "show up and get them ratings." Noting his big edge — he has a 29 percentage-point advantage over second-place Ron DeSantis in the latest NBC News polling — he criticized Fox for wanting him to participate while trying to "promote, against all hope," the DeSantis campaign.
"Sorry, FoxNews, life doesn't work that way!!!" he concluded.
And still, there are voices in his ear that say that he should jump onto the stage — and that, in the end, he won’t be able to resist the allure of being in the spotlight.
"He shops opinions with everyone and will get, like, 100 different opinions," an adviser said. "He wants to know what everyone thinks but will ultimately do what he wants to do. In general, he is asking everyone, from the bellman to [RNC Chair] Ronna McDaniel."
Trump hasn't made a final decision, the adviser said, "but if he does not debate, I doubt he's staying home."
