Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez applauds billionaire's offer to pay off academic debt, but says students shouldn't have to rely on generosity of others
By Barnini Chakraborty | Fox News

New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez weighed in on billionaire Robert F. Smith's offer to pay off the student loan debt of the entire graduating class at Morehouse College, saying that while she applauded the gesture, college students shouldn't be forced to rely on the generosity of others.

"It's important to note that people shouldn't be in a situation where they depend on a stranger's enormous act of charity for this kind of liberation to begin with (aka college should be affordable), but it is an incredible act of community investment in this system as it is," she tweeted Sunday.

Smith, a billionaire investor who founded Vista Equity Partners, made the surprise announcement during the historically black college's 135th commencement service.

"We're going to put a little fuel in your bus," Smith told the graduates. "This is my class, 2019. And my family is making a grant to eliminate their student loans."

The extraordinary move comes as calls grow about the mounting burden of student loan debt across the country.

"Every Morehouse Class of 2019 student is getting their student debt load paid off by their commencement speaker," the freshman lawmaker said. "This could be the start of what’s known in Econ as a ‘natural experiment.’ Follow these students & compare their life choices w their peers over the next 10-15 years."

Note: Robert F. Smith's gift to the grads amounts to roughly $40 million dollars.

House GOP resolution blasts 'Green New Deal' as violating nation's 'bedrock principles'
By Sam Dorman | Fox News

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal is a "thinly veiled" attempt to push policies that would create a socialist society, a resolution pushed by the Republican Study Committee said on Wednesday.

Decrying the millions of deaths under socialist regimes, the resolution stated that the plan, so strongly supported by Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., would violate basic American principles -- rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness -- explode the country's national debt, and put forth many proposals with "no connection at all to climate change."

“When we began the 116th Congress, most Americans had no idea how far to the radical left the new Democrat majority would attempt to push the country," Committee Chairman Mike Johnson, R-La., said in a press release on Wednesday.

"The ‘Green New Deal’ may be the most outrageous set of proposals ever presented in the U.S. Congress, and we have an obligation to expose this dangerous agenda for what it is and what it would mean for every American."

Ocasio-Cortez's office did not respond to a request for comment.

The resolution came after the freshman congresswoman criticized other Democratic proposals for lacking the ambition that hers had. During a rally for the program, she seemed to knock former Vice President Joe Biden for pushing a more moderate approach to grappling with climate change.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders team up to push the 'Green New Deal'Video
In a video from a possible future, Ocasio-Cortez described Green New Deal legislation as "the kind of swing-for-the-fence ambition we needed" amid impending climate catastrophe.

"Finally, we were entertaining solutions on the scale of the crises we faced without leaving anyone behind," she said during the video.

But according to Republicans, Ocasio-Cortez's policy dream is a nightmare, one that's at once unrealistic and too expensive. “The Green New Deal is a socialist’s wish list of absurd proposals rooted in fantasy and funded by raising your taxes. It deserves to be defeated," Rep. Ralph Abraham, R-La., said.

The new resolution, with more than 50 original co-sponsors, points to an American Action Forum estimate putting the Green New Deal's total cost at $93 trillion over 10 years. It also described Ocasio-Cortez's clean energy goal -- using renewable energy sources to meet 100 percent of the nation's power demand -- as "technologically impossible."

In addition to renewable energy, the deal's goals included a jobs guarantee, universal health care and free college tuition.

President Trump has dismissed the Green New Deal as a "hoax."

Ocasio-Cortez has pushed back against her critics, suggesting they were overly pessimistic. She also criticized Trump after he likened her deal to a "high school term paper that got a low mark."

"Ah yes, a man who can’t even read briefings written in full sentences is providing literary criticism of a House Resolution," she tweeted, referring to a report that Trump preferred not to read his daily intelligence briefing.

But Ocasio-Cortez also appeared to face pushback from her own party as 42 Democrats, in March, voted present on a measure to bring her Green New Deal to the floor for debate.

During an interview aired in April, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was dismissive of Ocasio-Cortez's influence and, like Republicans, rejected socialism as an economic system.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sued over blocking people on Twitter
2 hours ago | BBC

US Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is being sued for blocking people on Twitter.

Former New York state assemblyman Dov Hikind and Joseph Saladino, a YouTube personality running for Congress, have filed the claims.

Both cite a recent ruling against President Donald Trump, which said he was breaking the law by blocking critics on the social media platform.

The men say the law should apply to all politicians.

"Trump is not allowed to block people, will the standards apply equally?" Mr Saladino tweeted.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez's office has not yet commented on the lawsuits. Her Twitter account has 4.7 million followers.

Earlier this week, a New York court declared that President Trump was breaking free speech laws by blocking his critics on Twitter.

"The First Amendment does not permit a public official who utilises a social media account for all manner of official purposes to exclude persons from an otherwise‐open online dialogue because they expressed views with which the official disagrees," the judgement read.

According to Mr Hikind's lawsuit, the congresswoman - commonly known by her initials AOC - blocked him after he criticised her and her political views.

The suit alleges that Mr Hikind, "a staunch supporter of Jewish values" was blocked "purely because of his speech in support of Jewish values and Israel". This restricted Mr Hikind's participation in "a public forum", it says.

Most recently, he criticised her when she tweeted that the US government was running "concentration camps" on the border with Mexico.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez is among many critics of the detentions on the southern border, saying people are being held in cramped and unhygienic conditions.

The president says the border force is struggling to cope with a huge new influx of migrants and wants money for a border wall.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez was among a group of lawmakers who visited the southern border recently.

In the wake of her visit, US officials have launched an investigation into a secret Facebook group which mocked migrants, and Latino and Latina members of Congress.

House Dem blasts 'juvenile' Ocasio-Cortez, chief of staff: 'Ignorance is beyond belief'
By Sam Dorman | Fox News

Capri Cafaro and Terry Holt weigh in on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's recent comments insinuating that Speaker Nancy Pelosi doesn't respect her as a 'woman of color.'

Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-Mo., added to the mounting Democratic criticism of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., reportedly calling her, her chief of staff, and the group Justice Democrats "juvenile."

"Their ignorance is beyond belief," Clay, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, reportedly said while in the Speaker's Lobby. His comments followed a feud between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and freshman congresswomen, like Ocasio-Cortez, that involved racially-charged criticism.

Ocasio-Cortez's chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, previously compared moderate Democrats to racists -- prompting Pelosi, at the request of some of her members, warn House Democrats not to attack each other on Twitter.

"You got a complaint? You come and talk to me about it. But do not tweet about our members and expect us to think that that is just ok," she reportedly said. On the same day of that caucus meeting, Ocasio-Cortez called out Pelosi for what she sees as the speaker continually targeting her and other freshmen lawmakers of color.

Clay reportedly addressed the racial undertones of the criticisms coming from Ocasio-Cortez's office, saying it was "unbelievable" it would bring up that issue.

“What a weak argument, because you can’t get your way and because you’re getting pushback you resort to using the race card? Unbelievable. That’s unbelievable to me,” Clay reportedly said on Thursday.

Clay wasn't the only one to attack Ocasio-Cortez on Thursday. "The View" hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg criticized her's and others' decision to attack Democrats like Pelosi. "I think this is more BS," Goldberg said of Ocasio-Cortez's comments on race.

Pelosi, meanwhile, refused to provide further comment on the feud while discussing it during her weekly press briefing.

“I've said what I'm going to say…What I said in the caucus yesterday had an overwhelming response from my members," she said.

"Because they know what the facts are and what we are responding to. We respect the value of every member of our caucus. The diversity of it all is a wonderful thing. Diversity is our strength. Unity is our power."

Ocasio-Cortez gets new 2020 challenger: a Republican immigrant from Jamaica

Scherie Murray, a New York businesswoman who immigrated from Jamaica as a child and is active in state Republican politics, is launching a campaign Wednesday for the congressional seat held by Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Fox News has learned.

In a phone interview, Murray, 38, confirmed her intention to run for the New York congressional seat as a Republican.

“There is a crisis in Queens, and it’s called AOC,” Murray told Fox News. “And instead of focusing on us, she’s focusing on being famous. Mainly rolling back progress and authoring the job-killing Green New Deal and killing the Amazon New York deal.”

I think it's kinda funny (weird funny, not ha ha funny) that she's so famous. he's just a freshman Congressperson. No big deal. What DOES piss me off is when people say "oh she's just a bartender" - because, like, what was someone her age with her education supposed to do? Sit in Mommy's basement waiting for the right job, or go earn some money while looking for something better, like an actual adult? In that respect, she's a success, and I think the basement-dwellers are jealous. As far as what becomes of it, only time will tell.

Sen. Rand Paul offers Rep. Ilhan Omar a trip back to Somalia to 'appreciate America more'
USA TODAY
Phillip M. Bailey
,USA TODAY•July 29, 2019

Republican Sen. Rand Paul is offering to buy Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar a plane ticket to visit her home country of Somalia to learn to be more grateful for living in the United States.

Omar is one of four congresswomen — known as "The Squad" — who President Donald Trump told to “go back" to their ancestors' countries instead of criticizing U.S. policies.

A few days later, Trump held a campaign rally in North Carolina where the crowd chanted "send her back" when the president spoke of Omar, a Somalian refugee who came to the U.S. as a child.

Trump condemned the chant when later asked by reporters but then called those who attended the rally "patriots" in subsequent comments.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., the first Somali-American elected to Congress who is a frequent target of President Donald Trump, speaks as she introduces the Zero Waste Act that creates a federal grant program to help local governments invest in waste reduction initiatives, at the Capitol in Washington,
"I'm not saying we forcibly send her anywhere," Paul said in an interview last week with Breitbart News, a conservative-leaning outlet. "I’m willing to contribute to buy her a ticket to go visit Somalia. I think she can look and maybe learn a little bit about the disaster that is Somalia."

Sen. Mitch McConnell: President Donald Trump 'is not a racist'

The Kentucky Republican then criticized the East African country for having "no capitalism" or "God-given rights" under in a constitution. He said Omar "might come back and appreciate America more" after visiting Somalia.

An Omar spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

Omar said in a recent op-ed to the New York Times that the "send her back" chant "will be a defining moment in American history." She added that this marks a "fight for the soul of our nation."

“Throughout history, demagogues have used state power to target minority communities and political enemies, often culminating in state violence,” Omar said in the op-ed. "Today, we face that threat in our own country, where the president of the United States is using the influence of our highest office to mount racist attacks on communities across the land.”

Paul, who ran against Trump for president in 2016, has defended the president against charges of racism in the past.

A year ago, when Trump reportedly referred to African nations as "s---hole countries" Kentucky's junior senator said the comments weren't constructive, but that it was "unfair" to label the president a racist.

Paul has a budding relationship with the president and was recently tapped to help with negotiations with Iran. He has defended Trump over the tweets aimed at the congresswomen, which include Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York; Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts; and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.

Also: Gov. Matt Bevin rubs elbow with President Donald Trump at private event in West Virginia

The senator told Breitbart that in the city of Bowling Green, where he lives, there are many immigrants and refugees who are great citizens, but that those people are thankful to be in America.

"Then I hear Rep. Omar say, 'Oh, America is a terrible place, there is no justice here,'" Paul said. “Well, she came here and we fed her, we clothed her, she got welfare, she got school, she got healthcare, and then, lo and behold, she has the honor of actually winning a seat in Congress, and she says we’re a terrible country? I think that’s about as ungrateful as you can get."

Paul's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment

Ocasio-Cortez's embattled chief of staff leaving post after controversies
By Louis Casiano | Fox News

Saikat Chakrabarti, the embattled chief of staff for freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is leaving his position following series of controversies that contributed to public divisions within the House Democratic Caucus.

“Saikat has decided to leave the office of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez to work with [nonprofit group] New Consensus to further develop plans for a Green New Deal,” Corbin Trent, Ocasio-Cortez director of communications, told The Intercept Friday.

“We are extraordinarily grateful for his service to advance a bold agenda and improve the lives of the people in NY-14. From his co-founding of Justice Democrats to his work on the Ocasio-Cortez campaign and in the official office, Saikat’s goal has always been to do whatever he can to help the larger progressive movement, and we look forward to continuing working with him to do just that," he continued.

Chakrabarti's last day was Friday, the news site reported. His departure had been rumored around Capitol Hill for days.

Chakrabarti, who helped manage Ocasio-Cortez’s upstart 2018 campaign, drew the ire of Democrats last month when he publically criticized party moderates during policy spats between progressive members and party leadership.

In June, he tweeted that Rep. Sharice Davids, D-Kansas, one of the first two Native American women to serve in Congress, enabled a racist system after she voted in favor of a Senate border bill not backed by progressives.

“Who is this guy and why is he explicitly singling out a Native American woman of color?” the House Democratic Caucus' official account tweeted last month. "Her name is Congresswoman Davids, not Sharice," the House Democrats added. "She is a phenomenal new member who flipped a red seat blue."

"Keep Her Name Out Of Your Mouth," the tweet concluded with interspersed emojis of clapping hands.

In July, Chakrabarti described centrist Democrats who blocked a liberal-backed emergency border bill as the "new Southern Democrats."

They “certainly seem hell bent [sic] to do to black and brown people today what the old Southern Democrats did in the 40s,” he tweeted in a now-deleted post.

Tensions within the party were reflected when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., took a swipe at Ocasio-Cortez along with Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts -- whom she called "four people" who don't have any following.

Ocasio-Cortez said they were singled out because they are newly elected women of color, further deepening divisions within the party. Democratic lawmakers, meanwhile, asked Ocasio-Cortez to fire Chakrabarti in an attempt to start over.

Chakrabarti has also been at the center of legal controversy. In April, he and Ocasio-Cortez were named in a Federal Election Commission complaint accusing them of overseeing a "shadowy web" of political action committees (PACs) that allowed them to raise more cash than they could have legally. The complaint also alleged that a limited liability company (LLC) was created to avoid federal expenditure requirements by offering Ocasio-Cortez and other Democratic candidates political consulting services at a price so low that the company apparently shut down before the election was even over.

The complaint centers on Brand New Congress LLC, a now-defunct company owned by Chakrabarti that aimed to recruit up to 400 left-wing candidates for national office. Dan Backer, the conservative attorney behind the complaint, said Brand New Congress LLC was guilty of providing campaign contributions known as "in-kind" expenditures by only charging candidates for a portion of the total cost of the service. Essentially, Backer claimed the company operated at a loss to provide its approved candidates with campaign services on the cheap.

Backer said Chakrabarti “was on all sides of the scheme.” He owned Brand New Congress LLC, sat on the board of the Justice Democrats PAC and co-founded the Brand New Congress PAC — all while serving as Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign manager.

The previous month, Ocasio-Cortez and Chakrabarti were removed from the board of left-wing activist group Justice Democrats after previously holding “legal control over the entity" in late 2017 and early 2018. Documents obtained by The Daily Caller indicated that the two were only officially removed from the board on March 15 of this year, almost eight months after attorneys had said she was removed.

Another FEC complaint filed in March accused Ocasio-Cortez and Chakrabarti of apparently violating campaign finance law by funneling more than $885,000 in contributions to the Brand New Congress PAC and Justice Democrats PAC to the Brand New Campaign LLC and the Brand New Congress LLC -- companies controlled by Chakrabarti that, unlike PACs, are exempt from reporting all of their significant expenditures. The PACs claimed the payments were for "strategic consulting."

Ocasio-Cortez has denied any wrongdoing, telling reporters in April: "It's conservative interest groups just filing bogus proposals."

Details of Ocasio-Cortez’s Ties To George Soros Revealed

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez - Page 3 Gf

NEW DETAILS HAVE EMERGED REVEALING THAT GEORGE SOROS HELPED PROP-UP DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ’S POLITICAL CAREER IN AN ATTEMPT TO PUT 400 BERNIE SANDERS-LIKE POLITICIANS IN CONGRESS.

A former organizer for Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s under-dog win in the democratic primary was undoubtedly helped by far-left organizations linked George Soros — specifically, online media which played a crucial role in her campaign.

Members linked to Soros-funded digital media asked Ocasio-Cortez to run for office which guaranteed she would get favorable coverage by a media network that reaches almost 300 million people monthly.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez - Page 3 111

One member of the Soros-funded media, Cenk Uygur, also founded one of the two political groups responsible for asking Ocasio-Cortez to run, Justice Democrats — whose goal is to get Sanders-like politicians elected to Congress.

Uygur, a former Armenian genocide denier, was eventually forced out of the organization after old articles revealed some of his previous sexist comments, often referring to women in a derogatory way.

Incumbent Joseph Crowley — whose footprint in the Democratic establishment led to speculation that he would succeed Nancy Pelosi as Democratic leader of the House — greatly outspent Ocasio-Cortez.

However, her strong online presence — thanks to the coverage of the Soros-linked digital media — she was able to gain traction and defeat Crowley in the primary June 26. She is expected to win New York’s 14th congressional district handedly, given the district’s Democratic history.

After Ocasio-Cortez’s website, Ocasio2018.com, was first registered May 3, 2017, it redirected to Ocasio-Cortez’s now-deleted page on BrandNewCongress.Org, according to an Internet archive captured June 29, 2017.

Brand New Congress is another organization, just like Justice Democrats, that aims to get socialists elected to Congress in the 2018 mid-terms. It has close ties to Justice Democrats.

In a June 27 interview with Uygur on his YouTube channel “The Young Turks,” Ocasio-Cortez thanked Uygur and other media platforms for covering her before the primaries, which she says “in no small part” helped her win.

“I wouldn’t be running if it wasn’t for the support of Justice Democrats and Brand New Congress,” Ocasio-Cortez told Uygur. “In fact it was, it was JD (Justice Democrats) and it was Brand New Congress that asked me to run in the first place.”

The Young Turks is a member of The Media Consortium — a network of far left media publications which includes Mother Jones, Democracy Now!, and dozens of other outlets, funded by Soros.

The Media Consortium is a Soros a media empire that, according to Media Research Center (MRC), reaches nearly 300 million people a month.

“Soros funds nearly every major left-wing media source in the United States,” MRC stated. “Forty-five of those are financed through his support of the Media Consortium. That organization ‘is a network of the country’s leading, progressive, independent media outlets.’ The list is predictable – everything from Alternet to the Young Turks.”

The MRC report goes on to detail the progressive echo chamber Soros intentionally created with the Media Consortium with the intention of shaping public opinion.

AOC--
For her age, the position she holds, and her intelligence and smarts..
She will rise and grow old in congress..
However;
I do not care for her..
She has changes coming to her,
I hope she learns, she could eventually become powerful.

AOC gets choked up at climate forum: 'My dreams of motherhood are now bittersweet'
By Sam Dorman | Fox News

New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggests Miami, Florida will 'not exist' in a few years.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., got emotional on Friday as she discussed how climate change affected her own personal outlook on life.

“I speak to you not as an elected official or a public figure, but I speak to you as a human being," the freshman congresswoman told a climate summit in Copenhagen. "A woman whose dreams of motherhood now taste bittersweet, because of what I know about our children's future," she added, apparently choking back tears.

She was giving her keynote address at the C40 World Mayors Summit which recently approved a global version of her "Green New Deal."

Ocasio-Cortez went on to decry the impacts of climate change and indicating that Puerto Ricans died because they lived "under colonial rule."

"I speak to you as daughter and descendant of colonized peoples who have already begun to suffer. Just two years ago one of the deadliest disasters in the United States struck in the form of Hurricane Maria," she said.

"The climate change-powered storm killed over 3,000 Puerto Ricans, American citizens -- my own grandfather died in the aftermath -- all because they were living under colonial rule, which contributed to the dire conditions and lack of recovery.”

She added that it wasn't a "coincidence" that Hurricane Dorian had similar impacts on the Bahamas. "As many have noticed in an — noted in an awful turn the climate crisis has passed is first impacting those who have not only contributed to our emissions the least but have already suffered greatly in the global history of inequality, colonization, and imperialism stacking one injustice upon another," she said.

The New York congresswoman traveled to Copenhagen for a meeting with the C40, a group of 94 mayors led by Los Angeles' Mayor Eric Garcetti -- who was just announced as the group's new chair. There, several U.S. mayors supported the "Global Green New Deal."

The plan aims to halve carbon emissions by 2030 through cleaner alternatives and the "strictest possible building codes." It also seeks to achieve the Paris Climate Agreement's goal of keeping warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius.
