AOC rakes in $1.42M in third quarter, topping both Pelosi and Schiff: Report

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., pulled in what is being described as an unprecedented fundraising haul in the third quarter of this year, outraising top Democrats in the House of Representatives as party leaders move forward with a controversial impeachment inquiry.

With $1.42 million in the bank, the progressive star raised more for her re-election campaign than any other House Democrat, with the vast majority ($1.1 million) of individual donations totaling less than $200.

Even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., fell behind the freshman congresswoman, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

Pelosi and Schiff reportedly followed Ocasio-Cortez with $1.145 million and $1.26 million respectively. Pelosi receives support from The Nancy Pelosi Victory Fund, which helps elect House Democrats. That group raised more than $11 million since January and $2.7 million in the third quarter.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., who's leading the second round of impeachment inquiry hearings, raised only $192,284 for the quarter. His fundraising since January was $860,037, roughly $500,000 less than Ocasio-Cortez pulled in for just the third quarter.

The figures were reported amid an internal debate in which progressives like Ocasio-Cortez demanded party leadership adopt policies like "Medicare-for-all." And her successful quarter was another indication that her power as a progressive icon could become a greater threat to moderate leadership's control over the party.

Pelosi previously downplayed Ocasio-Cortez's influence, sparking a media firestorm in D.C.  "These people have their public whatever and their Twitter world," Pelosi said in July, responding to Ocasio-Cortez and other freshman Democrats' decision to oppose a border funding package.

Ocasio-Cortez has spent time in recent weeks campaigning for Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and adamantly pushing for progressive policies from which Pelosi and others have distanced themselves.

At the beginning of November, Pelosi specifically said she hoped the 2020 field would focus on a health care plan other than "Medicare-for-All."

Since her summer spat with the Speaker, Ocasio-Cortez has continued garnering loads of public attention -- both for her progressive activism and her apocalyptic climate predictions. In October, news surfaced that a design studio was releasing an AOC action figure. In that same month, she also appeared at an international conference where mayors from the U.S. and other nations pushed for a global version of her Green New Deal.

The Q3 numbers will likely feed Republicans' narrative that the Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives have hijacked the Democratic Party. Republican National Committee spokesman Steve Guest said in a statement: "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s infamy and extreme agenda might be good for her own campaign coffers but they will be a boat anchor on the rest of Democrat Party in 2020.”

In diversifying her gaffes, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez decided to attempt to educate us on biology instead of economics for a change.

AOC found herself recently criticized for comparing America’s treatment of moms as “worse than dogs” because of the current lack of federal paid maternity leave policies. In a bizarre statement she said to a witness from the Heritage Foundation “Do we know how long puppies are allowed to stay with their mothers after a dog has given birth? Eight weeks. So, the market has decided that women and people who give birth deserve less time with their children than a dog.” Deep stuff.


Few brought attention to one particular part of her phrasing: “women and people who give birth.” I suppose she was worried she’d be blasted as “transphobic” by her ideological comrades if she didn’t mention the 0.3% of biological women who give birth without identifying as such?

Amusingly, back in March AOC mindlessly repeated the liberal talking point that “if male politicians could get pregnant, they’d build Planned Parenthood clinics everywhere” – I guess without realizing that it completely undermines the argument that PP is a healthcare provider that just happens to also perform abortions. It also means that AOC believes that women can get pregnant, men cannot, yet there’s still an unspecified class of “people who give birth.”

Who are they? I doubt even God knows.

I agree that her fame is only media-created. The recognition she SHOULD be getting, regardless of her stance on any issues, party affiliation, etc., is that she took steps toward achieving her dream by going out and getting a job, which, although people love to mock it, made her decent money AND put her out in the public. She wasn't riding Mommy and Daddy's coattails or hooking or whatnot - she worked and got herself elevated to where she wanted to be.

Time was, that was the American Dream. Now, if you're a bartender, waiter, janitor, etc., once, you're supposed to be one forever. My father started off as an office clerk and retired as a Senior Systems Analyst, all within the same company. That kind of opportunity is what made America great. (Oh and BTW he had fully paid health insurance the entire time, because jobs used to come with benefits.)

Despite her encouragement to swear off donations from billionaires, a 2018 filing by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y) that was discovered by OpenSecrets.org, shows that the progressive star accepted a $2,700 donation from billionaire Tom Steyer.

Over the weekend, Ocasio-Cortez campaigned with Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) and said that not taking contributions from wealthy donors is “called giving a damn.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has already topped the fundraising charts in her short time in Congress, but the liberal darling won’t donate a cent of her millions to Democrats' House campaign organization -- a position that has rankled some of her colleagues, Fox News has learned.

Instead, Ocasio-Cortez is building her own fundraising operation for fellow progressive candidates to bypass the official Democratic Party infrastructure. Already, she's actively funding primary challengers to oust certain Democratic colleagues.

Their gripe is that Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t given any money to the DCCC, the party arm with the sole job of electing Democrats to the House.

Records obtained by Fox News show the New York Democrat has failed to pay any of her $250,000 in “dues” to the DCCC.
