Democrats are having a field day after Trump's lawyers accidentally made the strongest case to call witnesses in his impeachment trial

President Donald Trump's defense team repeatedly argued on Saturday that there wasn't enough evidence to impeach him because Congress hadn't heard from any witnesses who had "direct contact" with the president.

Moreover, while Trump's lawyers complain of not hearing testimony from direct witnesses, the defense could easily solve that problem by retracting Trump's sweeping directive barring all executive branch officials across six agencies from cooperating with Congress' impeachment inquiry.

"The president's counsel did something that they did not intend:
they made a really compelling case for why the Senate should call witnesses and documents,"
after their opening arguments on Saturday.

President Donald Trump's defense team consistently drilled down on one key point as it began opening arguments in his impeachment trial on Saturday: the evidence against Trump is limited, at best, and he can't be impeached because
the public hasn't heard direct evidence of his misconduct from him or anyone close to him.

The defense team led by White House counsel Pat Cipollone could easily solve that problem by
retracting the Cipollone's sweeping directive last year which barred all executive branch officials across six agencies from cooperating with the House of Representatives' impeachment inquiry.

Multiple senior administration officials in the president's inner circle —
like acting White House chief of staff
Mick Mulvaney,
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo,
John Bolton —
cited Cipollone's command, which he made at the president's direction, as the reason they would not testify or provide relevant documents.

Sen. Joe Manchin of Virginia;
"One thing that stuck in my mind is they said there isn't a witness they have had so far that had direct contact with the president. I'd love to hear from Mulvaney and Bolton."

He released the transcripts to both of his calls to the Ukraine PM ...Again, pay attention ... Dems brought forth their own "witness/whistleblower" .. who's fault/problem is it that he doesn't know shit about it?

A snip of it released, the whole of the transcript has not been released.

trump, ordered all his call records be put in an extreme classified file/vault.
that is not where they belong, that has been proven.
he is scared to death his corruption will be seen.

In the snip transcript of the call
corruption was not mentioned in it
nor in any other released file.

again; the entire transcripts have not been released..
and bringing they haven't, he is hiding corruption.

If dems had a "field day" it was likely AFTER they failed to make their case during their arguments in the senate ...prolly tryin' to make their case in the MSM

A "snip"? .. Maybe somethin' only you and Rachel Maddow figured out ..it hasn't been an argument from dems .. There's a record of the length of the call that's not in the depths of some secret vault ..If you read the transcript and add the time it'd take for the translation, all the incriminating talk would hafta take place in about a minute or an extremely short time

Fact check: White House counsel falsely claims Republicans weren’t allowed into closed hearings.

Calling the House’s impeachment inquiry unfair to the President, White House counsel Pat Cipollone made a false claim about the closed-door House committee hearings at which witnesses were initially questioned.

The hearings were held in a secure room known as a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, or “SCIF.”

“Not even Mr. Schiff's Republican colleagues were allowed into the SCIF,” Cipollone said, referring to House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff, who is also the Democrats’ lead impeachment manager.

Facts First:
As Schiff noted in his response to Cipollone, the 48 Republican members of the three committees holding the closed-door hearings —
Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight —
were indeed allowed into the SCIF,
and they were given equal time to question witnesses.

Schiff said he would not suggest
“Mr. Cipollone would deliberately make a false statement,
” but he said,
“I will tell you this: He's mistaken. He's mistaken.
" He added that Republicans were not only allowed in but
“more than that: they got the same time we did."

Cipollone might have been referring to an October stunt in which Republicans who were not members of any of the three committees, along with some Republicans who were members, stormed the room to make a political point;
the non-members were not allowed to be there, and they eventually left after causing a delay.
But the members were allowed to be full participants in the proceedings.

No prior inquiries have been held in private, nor before the intel committee .. The witnesses were "auditioned" before the intel that's chaired by *Schiff* who should have been recused because he's a fact witness due to his/his staff's contact with the whistleblower, who's complaint was the basis for the inquiry to begin with ...and to believe what Schiff says is to disbelieve what a lot of the republicans say, and I don't believe a fuk'n word outta Schiff's slobbering maw
