The FBI search at Trump's Mar-a-Lago home

Former President Donald Trump said Monday that Mar-a-Lago, the Florida club where he lives, is "currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents."

Two sources confirmed to CBS News that the search was connected to White House records. Here's the latest.

WASHINGTON—The White House refused on Tuesday to say much about Monday's Federal Bureau of Investigation search at Mar-a-Lago, the lavish South Florida resort where former President Donald Trump lives.

“No one at the White House was given a heads-up,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing, adding that Biden was “not aware” of the dramatic move.

“The president and the White House learned about this FBI search from public reports. We learned just like the American public did yesterday, and we did not have advance notice of this activity,” Jean-Pierre said.

At an event at the White House earlier in the afternoon, a reporter shouted a question about the FBI search in Biden’s direction. The president did not respond.

The contents of the warrant used to execute the search remain unknown, but the target appears to be a trove of documents removed by Trump from the White House, according to multiple reports.

Throughout much of the summer, a House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, which was carried out by Trump’s supporters, has meticulously made the case that the former president was intimately involved in planning an attempt to stop certification of the previous November’s presidential election.

Trump and his supporters in the Republican Party and conservative media outlets have painted Monday’s development as a political ploy intended to frustrate Trump’s expected launch of a 2024 presidential campaign. Outlets like Fox News, which had been downplaying Trump’s role in the future of the Republican Party, quickly and furiously rose to his defense.

Democrats had been pushing Attorney General Merrick Garland to pursue a criminal investigation into Trump’s role on Jan. 6 more actively. The attorney general has not commented on what took place at Mar-a-Lago on Monday.

I guess they've finally found a charge against him that might stick
.. We, as lowly citizens will never know exactly what documents he took, why, or what they pertain to, as any of those questions can easily be dismissed as being "classified"
... No point in speculating about what he took or why.. I doubt we'll ever know.. The only good that might come from it is - the democrats' obsessive witch hunt might subside for now .. until the sequel to the Jan 6 show begins the 2nd season anyway

Once they're done with Trump they'll start going after Republican governors, congressmen, state senators, ANYONE with an (R) after their name. Then they start taking out civilians belonging to the Republican party. If you're a registered Republican they'll freeze with your bank account, they'll call your employer and get you fired, they'll contact your mortgage holder and have you thrown out in the street and then call their local street thugs to 'disappear' you.

I agree too about their agenda, only I'd expect them to be more subtle and expose their tyranny more gradually ..but it's not like they've tried to hide it to this point either
.. I don't do TV and haven't really heard any reactions about the raid, but i can get that anywhere .. All this shit could easily backfire on them .. They're not as popular with the general public as they like to think.. If they continue to build this dictatorship they could face a *real* inserection .. I'm hoping the midterm elections will throw a stick in their spokes ..but who knows..I'm not impressed with anything republicans have done since this stooge took office either
