Florida police tell man to quit calling about stolen marijuana

A man in Florida repeatedly called 911 over the weekend to report that his roommate had stolen his weed, police said.

A deputy for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office recounted the bizarre call on Twitter.

Deputy Neal Zalva says in the Twitter video that he called the man back to tell him to quit contacting the sheriff's office about his purloined pot.

The video was made as part of the agency's #TweetAlong program, which allows viewers to get a behind-the-scenes look at the police work by the deputies.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A Florida man was arrested Tuesday after being caught have sex with a stuffed animal inside Target.

Witnesses told police they saw Cody Meader, 20, take a large Olaf from "Frozen" off the store shelves at a St. Petersburg location and begin to "dry hump" the toy.

The police report claims Meader ejaculated on the Olaf doll and put it back on the shelf before he "selected a large unicorn stuffed animal" and began to have sex with that object as well.

Meader was taken into custody while in the store and admitted to doing "stupid stuff." He was arrested and charged with criminal mischief.

The Olaf and unicorn stuffed animals were removed from the store and destroyed, the Smoking Gun reports.

HUDSON, Fla. - Sure, we all expect others to respect humankind with proper bathroom etiquette, but one Florida man (naturally) took things a bit too far.

Keith Mounts, 46, was arrested on an assault charge after he allegedly took out a machete and pointed it another man who had not flushed after using the toilet.

WTVT reports Mounts told the unnamed victim that he will "chop" him with the machete during the incident in Hudson.

Pasco County deputies said Mounts claimed self-defense, but did not explain what he was defending himself against.

Apropos of the situation, Mounts' written statement included "s___ happens."

Florida man spits food into woman's mouth in road rage encounter, police say

A Florida man was arrested after he allegedly spit food into a woman's mouth in a bizarre road rage incident last month, police said.



David Wipperman, 61, was taken into custody Thursday in connection with the incident on Oct. 29, when Wipperman got out of his truck and approached a woman driving nearby just before 6 p.m.

It's unclear where the two were during the encounter, but Wipperman walked up to the woman, and she rolled down the window of her sedan to apologize, according to the Tampa Bay Times. That's when, authorities say, the man spit the food he was chewing at her.

“The food struck the victim in the face and entered (her) mouth,” an arrest report states, per the Times.

The 61-year-old man is then accused of opening the woman's car door, allegedly screaming at her and pointing his finger in her face.

Wipperman was arrested several weeks after the apparent incident, according to online records from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. He was taken into custody on charges of felony battery and burglary of an occupied vehicle, and as of Sunday was being held at the Pinellas County Jail.

Nothing is better than driving down the open road, windows down, wind blowing through your hair and bringing crack into your car… Wait, hang on a minute, something doesn’t sound right there. However, Joseph Zak, from Port St. Lucie, Florida, thinks that was a totally legit explanation for the drugs found in his vehicle when he was stopped by police recently—the wind blew it in.

HE WAS PULLED OVER FOR FAILING TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN.
In other words, it was a driving offense, but a pretty routine one. It’s doubtful that the police officer who stopped him expected to find illicit drugs in his vehicle, though this did happen in Florida, so who knows?

BEFORE HE STOPPED, POLICE KNEW SOMETHING WAS UP.
According to the arrest report obtained by The Smoking Gun, Zak was seen “making furtive movements” and “attempting to discard an item out the passenger window.” Uh oh. He was also described as confrontational, with bloodshot, glassy eyes. Come on, Joseph!

UNSURPRISINGLY, HE WAS ARRESTED.
Given that police saw an open beer can in his car, he was immediately cuffed and police asked for permission to search the vehicle. Not long after, they found Zak’s crack pipe and a plastic bag. As the affidavit reads, “Due to the open container violation, he was removed from the sedan and detained in handcuffs for our safety. Zak gave his consent to the search of his vehicle. A search of his vehicle revealed a glass round cylinder commonly used for smoking crack cocaine in the center console. A clear baggie was also located in the rear seat with a whitish residue, which tested positive for crack cocaine.”

IT WASN’T HIM!
Zak claimed that the pipe and the bag weren’t his, and that they were only in the car because either the police or the wind placed them there. Yeah, OK! Before the police stopped him, witnesses reported seeing Zak in the parking lot of a local hotel, drinking and waving around a bag containing a white substance.

HE’LL BE BACK IN COURT ON DECEMBER 3.
He was arrested and released on bond after being charged with possession of paraphernalia and is due back in court for arraignment next month.

Alvarez-Rodriguez took the gift to the baby shower where the father-to-be opened the box and said "You guys got me a gun."

Florida 'porch pirate' caught on camera stealing package while little girl watches

A woman was caught on camera allegedly stealing a package from a Florida home — with a young child, who followed along, watching her.

The unidentified "porch pirate," as described by the Tampa Police Department, was captured on home surveillance video Sept. 7.

The woman is seen walking up to the front porch of the house, located in the neighborhood's Audubon Drive, and taking a package that's seemingly hidden behind a pillar of the porch.

While she takes the package, a young child is seen following closely behind. The two soon leave the house, heading toward the street's sidewalk and walking away.

Investigators explained in a Facebook post they want to find the adult, and the child — "to explain about consequences to actions."

Anyone with information on the theft is urged to contact the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130.

Florida man sentenced to 20 years after bringing condoms, pink dress to child-sex sting

A Florida man was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on Thursday for attempting to entice a child for sex, according to the Department of Justice.

Frederick M Pohl, Jr., 41, from Clermont, was arrested after he arrived at an Orlando hotel with condoms and a pink dress, following ongoing conversations with an undercover federal agent in Detroit that involved his desire to rape an 8-year-old girl.

Pohl, who pled guilty to the charges on Aug. 6., allegedly sent lewd photos of himself during the graphic online communication. He assumed he was chatting for months with the child and her father but had actually been in contact with an agent from Homeland Security Investigations.

“I like young girls. ... I would love someone as young as your daughter's age,” Pohl said, early in their first chat which began around March 11, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

During the time of his arrest, Pohl had been working at an unnamed Orlando amusement park where he was responsible for securing the lap bars on rides for both children and adults. He was immediately fired after his arrest and the park fully cooperated with law enforcement during their investigation. There was no known instance of misconduct while Pohl worked at the park, according to the Department of Justice.

“Thanks to HSI special agents in Detroit and Orlando and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, this child predator has been stopped and he will be held accountable for his crimes,” said HSI Orlando Assistant Special Agent in Charge David J. Pezzutti.

In the online chats, Pohl claimed he abused children as young at 15 years old, according to the outlet. During his trip to the Orlando hotel, agents watched as he bought condoms at a local Walgreens before heading to Walmart -- where he purchased what he described as a "pretty pink dress with hearts on it."

He was arrested by agents from Detroit and Orlando upon arrival.

According to the Justice Department, the case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sex exploitation and abuse.

Pohl was reportedly involved in a similar operation 12 years earlier.

In 2007, he was seen chatting online with an agent posing as a 13-year-old girl from Canada. Pohl talked about visiting her before reportedly backing out, saying he lied and was "sorry about that," court records show, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

He is being held in the Marion County Jail.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A 67-year-old man was arrested Saturday after St. Petersburg police officers learned he was giving out marijuana to people who passed by him.

The arrest occurred around 11:30 p.m. at 16 2nd Street North in downtown St. Petersburg, after police received a report from a witness. Officers said when they confronted Richard Ellis Spurrier, he said he was handing out marijuana “because it was Christmas.”

Police said Spurrier had 45 grams of marijuana on him and a hidden sword in his cane. He was arrested and faces a charge of possession of marijuana.

PALM BEACH, Fl. — Deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of someone screaming for help at a neighbor’s home on Dec. 29, 2019.

After showing up to the Lake Worth Beach home, the deputies soon discovered that the supposed "victim" was actually a parrot named Rambo.

The homeowner was changing the brakes on his car, according to NBC News affiliate WPTV , when the deputies arrived and notified him that his neighbor had called to report that there was a woman screaming inside asking for help and to be let out.

The owner then introduced Rambo to the officers.

"I was changing the brakes on my wife's car and had my 40-year-old parrot, Rambo, on his outside perch where he sings and talks,” the man explained to the deputies, according to a post on the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page . “Sometime later four police officers showed up saying a neighbor called because she heard a woman screaming for help. I promptly introduced the officers to Rambo and we all had a good laugh.”

He added, “Afterward, I also introduced Rambo to the neighbor who called in the screaming.”

Luckily, his neighbor also “had a good laugh” about the entire situation.

“Sometimes Rambo yells 'help, help, let me out,'" explained the man. "[It's] something I taught him when I was a kid and Rambo lived in a cage."

Florida man arrested after allegedly lying to bypass presidential security at Palm Beach Airport

A 37-year-old Naples, Fla. man was arrested Sunday after allegedly lying about being an active Marine Corps member to gain access to Palm Beach International Airport prior to President Donald Trump departure, a report said.

Brandon Mark Magnan, who was dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps and required to register as a sex offender, was arrested after federal officials said he lied to get past presidential security checkpoints at the airport about an hour before Trump’s flight departed, the Palm Beach Post reported.

Magnan allegedly passed two security checkpoints, typically manned by U.S. Secret Service and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies, the newspaper reported. He drove through the checkpoints with an unnamed male passenger, according to a complaint filed in federal court.

At each checkpoint, he identified himself as a member of the Marine Corps helicopter squadron, presenting deputies with credentials with Marine Corps seals, the complaint said.

After gaining access to Atlantic Aviation, a sheriff’s deputy asked to see his credentials after noticing he wasn’t wearing a Marine Corps uniform, a standard practice for meeting the president under the circumstances. The deputy contacted a member of the helicopter squadron who said Magnan’s credentials were fake "based on numerous factors."

Magnan then allegedly told law enforcement he was a retired member of the squadron, the Post reported. A search of the FBI crime database revealed Magnan was dishonorably discharged after a court-martial conviction for "serious offenses," the complaint said.


Brandon Mark Magnan, 37, was arrested at the Palm Beach International Airport on Sunday for allegedly lying to get by security checkpoints to see President Trump depart.

Magnan was held on charges of "false personation of an officer or employee of the United States," the newspaper reported. He faces up to three years in prison and a fine of $250,000. He made bond and was released from jail Monday, the Post reported.

Florida mother beat adopted son with dog chain, chipped his teeth with pliers, sheriff says

A Florida mother is accused of beating her 14-year-old adoptive son with a dog chain and chipping his teeth with pliers in what a sheriff called the most “disturbing” case of child abuse in his 38-year career.

Patricia Dianne Hyler, 47, was arrested May 8 after deputies found evidence that she abused all four of her adoptive children, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson told reporters Monday. But Hyler’s 14-year-old son appeared to be a “target child” that she “took a special interest in,” Johnson said.

Hyler is accused of cutting the boy's arms and head, making him sleep on a dirty concrete floor, and forcing him to bathe by undressing in the front yard and spraying him with a hose.

“I’m not making this up,” Johnson said. “It’s just incredible what people can do to other people, it really is. It’s so disturbing.”

The boy lived with Hyler and her husband for the past seven and a half years, Johnson said, and was being homeschooled with his siblings.

"She abused this child pretty severely, but she took him out of school and homeschooled him for two years because she knew that if she sent him to school, obviously, somebody would report it,” Johnson said. "So she kept him at home.

Deputies were tipped off after another child in the home sent a text message to someone who then alerted the sheriff’s office, Johnson said. Detectives also interviewed Hyler’s two adult adoptive children, who have since moved from the home and had similar stories of abuse.

While evidence showed all four children were abused, it is common for one child to bear the brunt of the abuse, Johnson said. All four children are in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families.

"I'll be honest with you, as a father it pisses me off, is what it does," Johnson said. "Somebody that can do that to another human is bad enough. But you start doing that to a child, yeah, we take it personally. We really do."

Johnson said he does not expect charges to be filed against Hyler’s husband. He apparently worked long hours and was not home when the abuse was committed.

Hyler was charged with aggravated child abuse and is expected to face further charges, Johnson said. She is being held at the Santa Rosa County Jail without bond.

Florida woman arrested after child found covered with fleas, which also infest responding deputies, cops say

A Florida woman was arrested after deputies found a 6-year-old child covered with fleas inside a home ridden with dog feces, authorities said Monday.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Fort Walton Beach-area home on April 22 after the child locked 58-year-old Toni Reid out of the house, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Deputies entered the home and found the child hiding in a closet. While inside the home, deputies reported they became covered in fleas.

Three dogs were inside the home, according to deputies, including one that was 17, covered with flies and unable to walk. Flies, dog feces and urine were found throughout the house.

They also discovered the child’s bedroom had only a bare mattress with a large hole down to its springs, the release said.

In the kitchen, there were chemicals on counters and several knives within the child’s reach, according to the sheriff’s office.

Reid was served a warrant May 1 and charged with child neglect.

The sheriff’s office did not specify the relationship between Reid and the child.

Florida woman charged with manslaughter initially claimed man fell on knife: police

A Florida woman has been arrested in a man’s fatal stabbing after initially telling investigators the victim died after falling on a knife, authorities said.

Lilliam Patterson, 19, was charged Saturday with negligent manslaughter in the death of Xavier Collins in her home in Marion County.

Deputies showed up at the home Friday night in response to a 911 call reporting a heart attack, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

After finding a traumatic injury to the 19-year-old Collins’ chest, “Patterson then claimed Collins had fallen onto a knife held by one the children in the home,” the sheriff's office said.

She then claimed both she and a small child were holding knives, and Collins fell onto one of the knives, according to the news release.

The sheriff's office said that during another interview with investigators, Patterson claimed Collins began “wrestling” with her as she was holding a knife in one hand and a cellphone in the other.

“Patterson changed her statement multiple times regarding where she was holding the knife,” authorities said, adding: “Patterson also acknowledged she had multiple opportunities to relinquish the knife before, and during, the time the victim, Collins, was ‘wrestling’ with her.”

Patterson was jailed and awaiting a court appearance.
